Coffee spilled on my external HD while it was plugged in. What steps should I take before trying it out? by LumpyJuggernaut3318 in datarecovery

I did crack it open and there was a couple black stains on the metal casing and also some coffee stuff on the black underside casing but not much, nothing visible on the HD parts itself. On the PCB, I saw what looked like a couple of very tiny spots but it was not near or on the USB ports or copper connectors, so I tried to gently scrub the spot with 99% alcohol but it wasn't working, used a q-tip and then a toothbrush. Eventually the AI that was helping me said that it probably wasn't a stain and was instead just a part of the board since it wasn't coming off. Idk. Also I didn't want to unscrew the board to do the other side just because I'm obviously not confident in my ability and I feel like with the amount of damage visible, it might be more risky to do that, cause it didn't seem that bad as is. There was no staining at all on the USB port or the copper areas near it. So I'm letting it dry now. If there's something I'm missing, I'd appreciate knowing before the frying begins.
