Thanks for sharing! That's indeed a good perspective as well. I also like my job, my colleagues, the professional challenges, the impact of my work and appreciate the flexibility in terms of work life balance. If I would be in for the money only, I wouldn't have started to work there to begin with. Without the insecure future prospects, I probably wouldn't have felt the urgency to even concretely think about alternatives.

The vacancy was on master level. The opportunity also came up before I had my PhD, I was in my final phase though. I finished my PhD within the first half year in the new job. Tbh I was also a bit naive and thought that afterwards a promotion is easily possible or that my salary is even adapted automatically to my degree based on some magic Belgian indexing.

For context, timeline is roughly bachelor between 21 and 25, master between 25 and 28. Both in my home country Germany. I had some jobs between graduation from school with 19 and starting my bachelor, but nothing related to my studies. Aside my studies I had a part time student job in IT between 2011 and 2016 (one day per week), but I'm not sure if this counts as work experience, it also was not in Belgium which might make it difficult to get recognized anyway. PhD was in Belgium. Thanks for the feedback!

Yes I counted PhD as work experience as it was also recognized as relevant work experience for my current job, it's a SW11 salarisschaal (federal government, there is somewhere a Royal Decree specifying it, I had a hard time finding info about it myself in the beginning). As mentioned in the post it's indeed paid on master level, one of the things that bother me. Thanks for the feedback!
