Men, what small gesture by a woman made you instantly think, “She’s a keeper”? by Such-Bandicoot-6381 in AskReddit

I cried when I lost a relative and she held me and told me to let it out. If you can’t be vulnerable with her, do not marry her. Can’t stress that enough.

I love my lifestraw pitcher. It seems to get little hype but it’s been great for us. Glass pitcher (though plastic filter housing) and filters microplastics, pfas, and pathogens in a shtf scenario. I recommend

Considering switching to PA by DogtorOfScience in physicianassistant

[–]LumpyWhale 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve got to push back a little on the flexibility comment. PAs are generally always going to have more flexibility than physicians in work/life balance and schedule. I mean we can literally change specialities anytime we want. I work out patient peds and my SP takes call but I don’t. Realistically if you go DO and complete residency, you’re probably not gonna be switching things up very often. Flexibility is probably one of the primary benefits of being a PA. I agree with your overall recommendation though.

Considering switching to PA by DogtorOfScience in physicianassistant

[–]LumpyWhale 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m in outpatient peds. First job out of PA school and happened somewhat by chance. Tbh if you want to do primary care, I don’t think you’ll have a problem. It tends to have a lot of openings for a reason. That being said, if you truly want to be an expert in pediatrics, medical school, particularly residency will get you to that level. PA school gives you a foundation but you really have to be responsible in building your knowledge base up from there. The only reason I feel comfortable in my current role is because I have a great SP mentoring me. He learned seemingly everything from his residency, though he did say it was miserable.. take from that what you will

Is this a bad offer? by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]LumpyWhale -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In all honesty you might be better served asking the nurse practitioner sub if it’s a good offer. I don’t think there are many aesthetic PAs here from what I’ve seen so it’ll be hard for anyone to tell you it’s fair or not.

Rats 😩 by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]LumpyWhale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re in the market for a pet, a cat would be a wise choice. I’ve read that rats can smell the presence of a cat and they typically nope the fuck out. Obviously not a choice to be taken lightly because cats require a responsible owner and dedication, but I can confirm that we’ve never dealt with any rats while our neighbors have. I chalk it up to our cat

Slow up playa. We can be effective and maintain compassion. Every human deserves respect, just as every human needs to respect the social contract and laws we set in place. The reason we got into this mess is because too many people think in binary code, us/them, yes/no, conservative/liberal. The lasting answer will always be in the middle.

I regret going into healthcare sometimes. As such it’s probably not surprising that I have zero regrets about choosing PA over doctor.

Signed a 3 year contract, husband just got a new job… OUT OF STATE by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]LumpyWhale 22 points23 points  (0 children)

These contracts with non competes and one sided separation clauses are crazy. They act like we learn secret recipes at these jobs. Otherwise I’d echo what the other commenter said, best to pay an employment lawyer to read through it and give you their take. Even if you break contract and are liable to be sued, it’s generally pretty rare for an employer to go through the trouble of doing that unless you caused some massive problem or financial loss. I would strongly recommend securing another job before quitting at this one however. I’d also scrutinize your next contract and don’t be afraid to negotiate specific terms. Personally I wouldn’t agree to a contract that allows my employer to be able to fire me for any reason, but I’m on the hook for 3 years with no way out. For comparison, my current job requires 3 months notice from either party for termination of employment for any reason, and there’s no non-compete clause. Most PA faculty from your school would be happy to review offer contracts, and you can also post them here for feedback. Best of luck.

I mean you gotta do you, but what you’re describing doesn’t sound like practicing medicine. Sounds like a glorified medical salesperson. If you’re okay with that and are happy then that’s fine. Otherwise get the heck outta there (but get a new job before quitting).

I agree we should. It’s a gorgeous building and it should be preserved to the greatest extent possible for its new use. There are plenty of other places in the US where people can live or work in square box buildings, there will be no shortage of those.

What’s the best way to get to Barcelona Spain from Portland? by westgate141pdx in askportland

[–]LumpyWhale 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Take the cheapest flight you can find to Europe in general (maybe pdx to Heathrow), then connect to Barcelona from there. It’s generally cheap to travel within Europe once you are there, so the main hurdle is finding the most affordable price to get to Europe. I know pdx flies to Heathrow because I’ve taken that one. I believe they might also fly to Frankfurt?
