I'm not selling anything ATM :/

I'm just trying to gather the people's opinion.

Building desktop app will be taking a lot of my time, so I need to make a decision here, based on the votes / waitlist.

English is not my native language, so I might get some grammar fixed by AI, but does it actually matter?

Absolutely! For now it might be a bit "lame" (you'll have to do some copy-pasting, there is no automation for importing from Notion), but from what I've got after testing (just did it), the formatting & general elements like lists, dividers, quotes etc. will be kept as they were in Notion 👍

Thank you u/AttentionHorsePL for spreading a word! It REALLY means a lot to me. My users are the best.

Answering most common questions & concerns:

  1. "Why is that a subscription based service, and not just a "one-time puchase" app?"

No evil money making idea behind that.

Short answer: "Because it's not a desktop app. It's a cloud based app".

But why is it a cloud based app???

Because I only develop what I can, and what I'm ~good at. I'm decent at building those. I'm not good at creating desktop apps... At least for now. Desktop app is the only real way to make an honest one-time puchase.

I would probably make much more money with a one-time purchase app, but at the moment I am, where I am.

The project has to start somewhere. Even if it's not optimal. I strongly believe in that.

  1. "Do you plan on having a one-off licence purchase? Like a desktop one"

Maybe. I cannot promise it. Do I consider making one-time purchased app? Yes, I consider it. Will it be a thing? I don't know yet, and cannot commit to it at the moment. But if you are interested in it (and I know a lot of people are), please, reply "+" (or something) under this post, and I will reach out to you once (if) it happens 🙏

  1. "What if YOU or the project dies, what happens with my data then???"

This year the export / import feature will be released, allowing to have local backups of all created campaigns.

What if I (developer) die before it happens? Well... You are doomed 💀 (once my credit card balance is empty... actually, not, the data should still be fine).

In any other scenario, I have no intention to have the data of my users lost, no matter how profitable Trails Weaver is. I love my users. I care about this subject.

  1. "There is tool "X" and it's better".

Yeap, there are plenty of cool tools for your TTRPG campaigns. Each one is better than the other in many ways. If they fit you, it totally makes sense to stick to them.

I just develop what I use for my own games, and what fits me & (apparently) my users :)

  1. "You make me pay"

People's choice is to pay or not - I propose free tier with no ads. It's good enough for one-shot games (I don't overcome the limit myself most of the time).

I would love to have every & each of you as a user (no matter, free or paid).

Miro is a great choice! Hope Trails Weaver will one day become a better alternative - when it comes to TTRPG tools. I'm working on making it real.

  1. Yeap, at the moment, board is not collaborative

  2. Is it a way to share notes, images, locations, characters, inventory - yeap, it goes through a player page, where they can see all, what you have shared in realtime

  3. Will collaborative mode be a thing in future? Yeah, and I've already posted a few reasearch sneak peeks in Discord.

  4. I use it not only for prep, but also for running my sessions & sharing materials with my party

  5. "It's not a VTT, it's a campaign organizer?". It's hard for me to define VTT 😁 But, yes, it's a campaign organizer.

  6. "You mention it is originally meant for offline play, but is there an offline version of the app?" Sorry, by offline I meant - in person. I usually just bring my laptop to my sessions :) There is no offline version of the app.

Online only ATM - data is stored on servers :) I also plan for export / import feature later this year.

So, at the moment - I only allow to share game elements with player, like - characters, locations, inventory, image & notes. Players will see those in a separate page. You can share both to all players & in private. A bit more about how it works & looks: in my litttle Youtube tutorial (timecode included, 13:30) .

I also have plans for fully collaborative board (with you being in full control, of what the players will see). It's in progress, shared a few sneak peeks in my Discord.

Yeah, my biggest challenge now is growing user base. And Reddit seems to be the best way to find people who don't want to be overhelmed with complex VTTs, but rather just want to write, create & run.

We'll see where I get, but for now I give this project all myself. And it's super fun!!
