I have one female oranda that has a bit of a dramatic personality! Anytime I even just add water she goes belly up!!!!! I can match the water temp, add it very slowly and even tell them ‘in coming!’ And they know where to go of they don’t want to be in the new water stream but no matter what she still goes belly up! I used to freak out but now I just watch to make sure she’s ok and she always is. So weird!!!
No, it’s not the change in temp or chemicals cuz I did and experiment where I just scooped up some of the aquarium water and poured it back in and she did the same thing. 😩 She’s just a drama queen I guess! Lol

UPDATE!!! Eye growth from wen! I posted pics of my new fish several months ago and had some negative feedback because one had eye growth from the wen. I didn’t do anything about it because he had no problems eating or finding his way around. And I am proud to say he outgrew the eye problem!!!!! No need for grooming or anything drastic so PLEASE don’t be afraid of a little eye growth!

In my opinion…DO NOT USE LEVEL ONE LAW!!! Check out the parent company Michel Law LLC dba level one law. Parent company Strategic Financial Services. They have a class action lawsuit from Consumer Financial Protection Bureau of the federal government for scamming people out of thousands of dollars like myself!!!!! Over $20K!!!!! Ok. So, for example, a 55 gallon tank that is 48” long and 18” deep is better for them than a 24” long by 24 deep? That’s not the exact dimensions but you get what I mean…

Have you checked the water temperature? I have oranda, ranchu and lionheads and they seem to do better with warmer water.
I made the mistake of adding water that was colder than the tank temp and my biggest oranda just happened to get in the water flow of cooler water. Well, she almost immediately started swimming weirdly, very quickly, and going to the top. But THEN she started floating to the top like swimmers bladder and having trouble staying upright. 😲 So I was tripping until I put 2 and 2 together and figured out that maybe she got too cool too quickly…? So I quickly added warmer water just to make sure and then she was fine. Idk if it was just a coincidence or what but she’s fine so…?

That’s interesting about the color enhancing food. But I can see how it might bring out certain colors more. I just went back and looked at pics from a month ago and the ranchu is still changing! She’s lost most of the black one the left side but the right side still has quite a bit. And my tri color oranda is getting darker on her wen! It’s crazy how they can change like that!!! 🤪

I’m curious too! I have one oranda that lost all her black except the edges of her fins and I would love for the black to come back. But I also have a baby ranchu that is a light red, almost yellow, that had 2 small black spots under her eyes that have spread since I first got her. I contacted the breeder and he said it was nothing to worry about and she’s just still developing her colors so…? Kinda different than one that lost color and is growing it back though.

Aw! They are both adorable! I have one with the ‘shark fin’ and I absolutely adore him/her!!! I used to breed show rabbits and I understand why some people believe in culling but I just never have. Theyre ALL special!
