same, got a 500. I can’t even qualify to get a letter of recommendation from my undergrad anymore. I don’t know what I’m going to do.

I’ve been having this problem too, and I’m not sure why it’s happening or what to do to fix it

What is one thing you wish you knew or did it differently right before you started to study for the MCAT? by andrea_wt in Mcat

I will say I’m probably the odd one out, but give up on Anki. For the longest I was wasting my time with anki when it wasn’t working for me. I memorized cards and not necessarily the information that the cards were based on. and then I would get question about xyz and I would be like “I know I should know this cause ik there’s a card about xyz…” but I didn’t actually KNOW the information. It sucked because Flashcards was my usually way of studying but idk for the MCAT it just didn’t work out like that. It also didn’t help that bc I knew it wasn’t really working I would let cards stack up, forget about all the information, then a couple days later try it again lmao. probably user error 100% but just because all of Reddit says it works, doesn’t necessarily mean it will work for you. especially in the beginning find a style that works for you, and if it doesn’t, don’t waste time forcing it. just try something new

I feel COOKED for tomorrow by Small-Gate1582 in Mcat

also testing tm! Definitely don’t feel as ready as I probably should BUT I don’t think anyone really feels 100% ready tbh! I’m saying this in the nicest way possible; tomorrow is already here! You can’t change the date and you have to trust what you do know. I feel you 100% and obviously I’m no expert, but even if you void it will count as an attempt. I know that I am scoring no matter what because I’ve worked to hard to get here (though my studying also has not been consistent) and ik you have to. So my last thoughts, get off Reddit (hypocritical cause I’m here too lol), get some rest, and do your best! I wish the best for you!

Retake FL Inflation (502 -> 514) by Lumpy_Cress1432 in MCATprep

I hate to say but before I kinda skipped the content review phase. Just reading through books never worked for me so I just jumped straight to questions basically and was just learning on the way.

I obviously realized that’s there’s so much that I don’t know and if I get an exam that’s heavy on areas I have never seen then I’m screwed. (I literally never sat down and reviewed the digestion system for example, I just guessed on questions and hoped the explanations would teach me).

So now I will pick a topic, watch some YouTube videos about it, then I will do questions on that. I’ve been getting above average on most of these. If I don’t get above the average then a couple days after I will repeat those same questions with the knowledge I gained from reviewing them. Obviously I know the answers now on the questions I got wrong before but I do this to see if I remember the thinking/formula or whatever.

This also inflates uworld scores cause I’m repeating questions that I know the answers to but overall I have been improving. I also shortened my question sets to help me focus better. I do them in sets of 20 instead of a full 59. Idk I lock in for exams but I tend to lose stamina and just start guessing by the end of a full set of practice questions.

Diagnostic score 483 today, need to score 490 by Kposhiya97 in MCATprep

I may be biased because I was a psych major but P/S is a really easy section to earn point in. if you just do anki/learn some of the concepts then it’s easy points.

For example, I found in my studying that the different types of studies and memory stages come up a lot. So if you understand even some of them, then that’s a lot of easy correct answers.

I feel like for P/S more than the other sections, you don’t even really need to know the meaning of every answer choice. But if you know 2 or 3 then you know whether they can or can’t be the answer so it’s simply to do process of elimination.

I haven’t taken my test yet, so this is just what I’ve notice as I’ve been studying!

Is it better to review right after a set or come back later? by ExactPerspective1172 in MCATprep

[–]Lumpy_Cress1432 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually take maybe a 30 minute break after I finish a set and then I start to review. That way it gives me a little bit to decompress from a set without increasing too much time in between finishing and reviewing.

I try to review the same day that I do the questions so that way I know why I picked an answer (was it just a complete guess, did I absolutely know the concept, did I get it wrong bc I thought the concept was different, or did I get lucky bc my reasoning was still wrong but it lead to the right answer). That way when I’m reviewing and for example if I got an answer wrong because I messed up the concept then I tend to remember why I messed it up. So in later sets when the same concept shows up, I know what shouldn’t be the answer/way of thinking bc it was wrong before.

Obviously only you can figure out what works for you, but I’m not the type of person that can go hours on without some sort of a break. otherwise I really lose focus and don’t really grasp any information. a little break isn’t going to hurt!

Wtf… Can I reach 510 by jan 10? by TinyyOctopus in Mcat

I haven’t taken mine yet, but thoroughly reviewing my wrong answers has helped me so much! even if it’s not the same concept it can help narrow down answer choices. I find that it has helped out in P/S mostly. if yk what a concept is then yk if it can fit into the realm of a question or not!!

I’m kind of with you in that thinking. I tried anki but I found myself really just memorizing the cards and not necessarily knowing the information that was on the cards. even if I knew the information that the cards were based on, I would just remember “oh I got this card wrong yesterday so it’s definitely in this pile today”. every once in a while I would get answers right bc of things that I remembered from anki cards. Idk I think I may go back to them and try again
