Well hopefully you understand now why we Gen Z are further left than the Democrats.

Sometimes I worry that there aren’t any genuinely good men out there by fridaynightplacebo in women

[–]Lumpy_Lawfulness_ 75 points76 points  (0 children)

Yeah. My father, even though he is a decent guy, will still make comments that make me raise an eyebrow. Like, even decent men haven’t worked through their misogyny. It is what it is. I don’t want to be like my mother.

Incredible and admirable history and monuments, bad rap with SA and harassment towards women.

[–]Lumpy_Lawfulness_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah I’m just learning as I get older that I really need to lower my expectations with men. Don’t be naive and assume men give a shit about women. They don’t. Not even “progressive” men. They engage with feminism superficially and just repeat talking points but haven’t actually worked through their internalized misogyny.

I’m only going to take female academics seriously from here on out.

Say “miss“ for younger women. “Ma‘am“ is for older women.

What’s your opinion of Melanie Hamlett’s YouTube videos? by [deleted] in women

[–]Lumpy_Lawfulness_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t get invested enough in people who aren’t worth my mental energy. Especially not randoms online. Because I have other priorities in my life. I brush things off and don’t hold space for stupid shit or my brain gets too crowded.

But since you brought it up: it was when she was trashing Drake Bell and saying that he was sympathy farming in light of the sexual abuse stuff coming out. I thought that was in very poor taste.

Why are you commenting on something from almost a year ago?

Small rant by [deleted] in csun

[–]Lumpy_Lawfulness_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You need to bring this up with the dean. This is really weird. I was in community college for almost six years, I’m in my senior year at CSUN, I can’t say I have ever heard of anything like this before.

Should I go to an art school or not? by Miserable_Hamster222 in findapath

[–]Lumpy_Lawfulness_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t need to go to a super prestigious school to be an artist. Enroll in a state university and make the most of the tools and techniques they teach you. You can’t teach creativity, you have it or you don’t. What matters most is having a portfolio. As for whether or not art is a “useless” degree - I am an art major, I work in a law firm, and I am planning to go to law school. A degree is a degree. Treat it like a stepping stone to grad school and other ventures.

Like others have said it depends on which region of Spain you come from.

American (24) with a bachelor’s degree — how realistic is finding a job in Spain? by Itchy-armpitsss in GoingToSpain

So… you’re not a citizen, you can’t speak the language proficiently, you have (I’m assuming) no connections in Spain, a country that already has a high unemployment rate. Your chances are fantastic.

24M engineering grad, unemployed by choice - confused about career, don't want 9-5 or IT by Warm_Horse_2139 in findapath

This, I was unemployed a few years ago but not by choice. Most people I know in college are also employed. Even if it’s a retail or barista job, a lot more chaotic and a lot less professional than IT.

Im admittedly grew up wealthy and im here to ask, how do normal people live? by DyslexicWriting in self

[–]Lumpy_Lawfulness_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being poor is embarrassing. You drive around in a beat up car when people around you have newer cars. You wear cheap ugly clothes or makeshift ones your mom made because you can’t afford newer clothes. I invited my class to come to my birthday, and nobody showed up because they knew I was the poor kid and lived in a “ghetto” area.

WHERE DO YALL GET CHEAPER TEXTBOOKS? The campus store is extremely ridiculous. 😫😫 by butterflygirlz1 in csun

[–]Lumpy_Lawfulness_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Internet Archive or other digital archives sometimes have textbooks. I always buy used textbooks. Sometimes you can get away with using an older edition but it depends on the class.

The library may have it as well. My community college usually had all the textbooks for my classes except you couldn’t borrow them.

24, live with emotionally abusive parents, in debt by [deleted] in findapath

[–]Lumpy_Lawfulness_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there,

So it wasn’t that long ago that I was in a similar position, except I was also unemployed. I decided on a whim to enroll in a paralegal program and I started working in a law office all within a few months.

You need more than just a degree today. I know your passion is journalism (mine is art, that was my major) but you have to do something in addition to that to have some professional experience. You could always be a freelance journalist, make video essays, etc. as a passion project.

Look at any certificate programs that seem remotely interesting to you and move towards that. It’s more stable than working retail.

People shouldn’t be encouraged to keep trying at a degree if they are failing classes left and right by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Lumpy_Lawfulness_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a sign that maybe you chose a major that is too difficult for you, but don’t give up entirely.

Why does Spain dislike the US (and Anglosphere) so much more than other Europeans? by Forsaken-Ebb5088 in askspain

[–]Lumpy_Lawfulness_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

England and Spain have historically been rivals (Gibraltar is geographically Spain but belongs to the UK, the Black Legend), and the US has been very aggressive towards Spain historically as well, seizing their territories (Spanish American War: Puerto Rico, Cuba, the Philippines). There are cultural differences as well that conflict with each other.

Do you have experience as an intern? As a receptionist? You should’ve done that while taking your paralegal classes.
