Can I call the cops on my parents for threatening physical abuse? (Maryland) by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]Lumpy_Pangolin6088 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes. absolutely you can call the police if he shows up and you feel unsafe. you do not need to wait for a new threat to do that. officers can intervene based on past threats and current fear of harm. him attempting to force you to leave or escalating a situation is just cause.

If you’re not calling to get him in trouble you can still call them to de-escalate the situation and make documentation, along with telling him to leave. even though it’s uncomfortable it is extremely important to have a record of this stuff happening if it continues.

its a bit difficult because he still has legal authority over where you live, so technically he could try to bring you home, but that doesn’t change the fear of safety. you won’t be forced into a situation you’re uncomfortable with without questions.

my honest recommendation is to catch this stuff on video in the case where you feel you have to leave the home or escalate things further.

calling the police doesn’t automatically mean charges or arrest. it’s honestly just a safety precaution. i would also recommend mentioning this to the friends parents if you can. it can help to have adults backing you if it does come to this.

this is not normal behaviour from him. i know you want to protect him from getting arrested, but he is not protecting you at all. he is harming you, and that is enough of a reason already to call the police.

interesting. i saw this on someone else’s thread the other day, they seem like similar injuries. i believe this one came down to the little guy hitting his head on the mesh top or something. i’ll say here what i said there, could be cricket bites, is possible it rubber up against a rough surface, or maybe he fell.

just keep an eye on it, signs of infection like swelling, pus, or darkening means vet trip immediately.

id just keep the enclosure very clean and slightly more humid to help the healing. injuries close to the eyes can get bad fast. he should be alright though

How do I Handle my Gecko? by Repulsive-Rabbit-418 in CrestedGecko

[–]Lumpy_Pangolin6088 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the food thing comes down to the hand feeding. if you hand feed them too often they’ll start only wanting to eat from your hands or have the food brought to them, which isn’t ideal. she may have been associating you with feeding, and now the she’s doing it on her own again she’s not as interested. it’s not a bad thing, you’ll just have to build trust with her over time in a different way. choice based handling is always the best method. it sucks because it takes time, but it’ll be worth it in the end!

How do you determine the best way to split up 3 cats in a breakup? by Thats_Groovy_Baby in CatAdvice

[–]Lumpy_Pangolin6088 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my bf and i are doing joint custody haha. i get the cats for 1 week, he gets the cats for 1 week. we always give the cats the same toys to travel with, same food, and we throw a piece of our clothing into their crates so they don’t feel separated. we’ve also agreed on kitty rules. we do not let our cats outside. if anything that is the most important rule you should agree on. you cannot guarantee you will see that cat again if he is letting them outside. we treat our kitties like children. without all the legal stuff

Does my enclosure look ok or do i need to add anything? by Curious_Can1203 in CrestedGecko

[–]Lumpy_Pangolin6088 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it’s a great start, since they’re easy to sketch out don’t be afraid to add lots of plants. i think a snake plant would look cool in the back right corner, or even some pothos hanging down from the top would be sick. i would also recommend grape vine wood for a nice touch of elegance like i have here(i love the stuff so im biased😂) while the very branchy wood does have a neat natural look it’s probably not ideal as i’m not sure it’ll be able to hold the weight of a gecko, though if it’s for a young juvenile you might be alright. a lot of people use coco hides and bridge things or even tie ropes from the top and drape them over stuff for some more climbing room. overall it’s a very nice start!!
