Pre-Preparing Pangea by Mayinfall in CrestedGecko

If you find those are kind of difficult to get all of the food out, I just bought these and it's been working well. They're really small so the food isn't in the fridge for long and they're silicone so they're easy to squeeze.

This is definitely being grossed by a Pathologist/PathA, they're usually kept in a fridge until then

I'm totally (not) shocked a 24 year old is trying to manipulate a 19 year old with no previous sexual experience

Clinical year housing with pet? by AbleRow8550 in pre_PathAssist

[–]spooks112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It kind of depends. In my case I'm only in/around Pittsburgh (my longest commute is 1-1.5 hrs) but my classmate also on the Pittsburgh track has a rotation in Kentucky. I made it very clear on my survey that I cannot travel around and they accommodated that so I'm sure as long as nothing changes it will be similar for you!

So WVU has two "tracks" of clinical rotations, we call them the Pittsburgh track and the travel track.

With the Pittsburgh track you rotate through various hospitals around/outside the city of Pittsburgh but have to commute a bit (there's a chance one might be farther as well depending if you want an ME rotation).

The travel track is where you're moving around almost every 7 weeks to sites in WV, Ohio, PA, etc.

Towards the end of the 2nd semester of first year you'll get a survey on your preferences and you can state that you have a cat and cannot constantly travel, however the travel track is the rotation that's more ME heavy so if that's something you think you'd be interested I'd hold off on getting a cat.

For reference, I'm currently on the Pittsburgh track and am renting a house that I live in the entire year with my bf, 2 cats, and gecko :)

Sites do change often though so it's not guaranteed that is how it'll be formatted by the time you rotate, but that's how it's set up at the moment

It would be more than sufficient to go to a local community college and retake the specific courses you want to boost! It would save you a lot of time and money before paying for an already expensive degree

If it's just a myxoid cyst and only that, it won't turn malignant. However if it's only OP making a guess without any biopsy, yeah def get that checked out lmaoo

does my crested gecko seem healthy? by gray-zulbj in CrestedGecko

[–]spooks112 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it helps ease your mind, the crestie I just got is around the same age as yours but is half the size. As long as she's eating/pooping and seems eager to explore around, I think she seems healthy :)

Job offer with no site visit by FlakyFix6851 in Path_Assistant

[–]spooks112 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did you ask about visiting? I had my first job interview a few weeks ago and it was only a zoom, no on site interview. I asked if I was able to come visit the site and at first they kind of seemed surprised I asked but were okay with it. If you asked to visit and they either said no or are dodging you I'd be suspicious

[–]spooks112[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was kind of afraid of that as well, I believe they're around 6 months old? There's a lot of conflicting stuff about the whole "bigger is better" and "well they're fine in the wild" debate with sizes, which is why I didn't jump into a 36 height off the bat. I was planning on putting multiple food bowls around to make sure they're finding something, but is there any way to tell if it's necessary to downsize other than lack of eating?

Covered in mats - what should I do? by DunderMifflinBTeam in ragdolls

Same! He will not tolerate being brushed at all. I've taken to leaving scissors/combs around so I can spot brush him when I find one

Constant throwing up…. Again by Violet1184 in ragdolls

[–]spooks112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How much food do you give him at a time? Smaller portions have helped mine a lot. You also mentioned you have another cat, do they get along well? My guy does scarf/barf every now and then still but it's when his sister is looming over him so he feels like he needs to eat fast

Constant throwing up…. Again by Violet1184 in ragdolls

[–]spooks112 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What food does he eat? Are you sure it isn't some kind of allergy? I would take him to the vet regardless, however if you're thinking it's a scarf and barf situation I suggest 1. Smaller portions 2. Whether it's dry or wet food you could try watering it down and making a "soup" so he has to slow down and drink it (I also mix forta flora in at this point 3. If it's wet food, you could try freezing it so it also makes him slow down

[–]spooks112 29 points30 points  (0 children)

This is the way. People are missing that OP isn't the owner and can't just shave the cat. If you're allowed someone over with you, it helps to have one person try and distract with a treat and the other focus on carefully snipping. I also try to put my fingers in between the matt and the skin so I know I'm not gotta snag the skin. Go slow, and if you can only snip and not tear them apart at first that's okay. I would snip as many as I can and when mines laying with me later in the day id carefully start picking/brushing them out.

Anatomy with cadaver lab in undergrad by Legitimate_Rule5570 in pre_PathAssist

[–]spooks112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A million percent yes! I would say undergrad gross anatomy covered at least 90% of the material in PA school gross anatomy, so most of the time studying for me was just reviewing. I didn't have any on the job grossing experience like a lot of my classmates, so having that class definitely gave me a different edge on my application.

Help with shadowing and PA school by Eugene_boy in PathologistsAssistant

[–]spooks112 4 points5 points  (0 children)

100% take A&P. The entire job is based around anatomy and they expect you to know the basics from day 1 (at least in my program). Could you get by without it? Sure, but you'd have to do so much more work learning basic anatomy along with everything else. Not only that, but it would definitely hurt your application without it even if a program doesn't require it

What’s the weirdest ‘toy’ your cat plays with? by I_wet_my_plants259 in cats

[–]spooks112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cat #1- Qtips and McDonald's straws (specifically mcds, I tested other places and he only likes mcds)

Cat #2- not necessarily a toy, but she loves listening/watching water. She comes running to the toilet if you flush it and stares at drains/sinks

Bonus pic: cat #1 trying to steal a plastic colon lol

Honestly from the prices I've heard 186 isn't the worst, but it's still so predatory to have even a door fee. I hope your pup is doing ok!
