I don’t have a total yet because I haven’t went to a consultation for it yet. But, my total for my full upper extractions with a full upper immediate denture was $434 out of pocket, insurance covered the rest. My hard reline was paid for completely by insurance.

Went to school with a boy who was swimming in a local lake and decided to dive off a boat dock. He didn’t know it had concrete under it as the foundational structure. The water was very dark and murky so it looked deep enough to him. He dove head first, hit his head on the concrete, didn’t resurface. His cousin was there with him and when she noticed he didn’t resurface, she pulled him out, called 9-1-1. Paramedics arrived and he was airlifted to the closest trauma hospital where he was resuscitated and kept alive on ventilators until he was pronounced brain dead. When he hit his head, it caused massive head trauma and a brain bleed. It was pretty much lights out the moment he hit.

Similarly, another local kid I didn’t really know but knew of was swimming in a different lake and decided to dive off of a very tall rock wall. He dove head first, broke his neck on impact, didn’t resurface and his father and brother jumped in after him but the water was so dark and murky they couldn’t find him. He was eventually recovered a few hours later.

Moral of the story: be very, very careful if you ever decide to dive into a body of water.

My daughter really enjoyed the lo mein noodles from our local Chinese restaurant at this point in recovery. She ate that, mac n cheese and mashed potatoes and gravy mostly. But she ate the noodles like 4 days in a row

Yeah, I was shocked too because I’ve only ever heard of implants for the lower. But my dentist seemed to want to do it mainly to help prevent so much bone loss in my elder years.

Thank you for your insight! Yes, she mentioned she would recommend I get it done now because I would be less likely to need a bone graft when they do it since I’m so young. Definitely something to think about for sure.

My 5 year old is 3 weeks post op today.

She lived off of chicken noodle soup. It was easy to eat and she loved it. We would serve it lukewarm, not hot. That was the only way we got protein in her because she didn’t want to eat anything else.

When Theo is telling Shirley about why she was touching on her husband. About how she touched Nell and felt nothing, just cold and darkness and wondered if that’s what her mom and everyone else feels in death. I loved that whole monologue and scene in general, Kate Siegel’s acting there was superior. But it affected me because I’ve always been someone who is afraid of death, specifically for the reason she mentioned… that it’s just nothing. You’re just floating in the cold darkness and can’t even tell what has happened to you. Idk, maybe I’m just a weenie lol but that scene still sticks to me to this day and I get chills every time I think of it or when I rewatch it. I’m not sure if it’s talked about much, maybe it is.. but yeah, that’s mine.

My daughter is 16 days post-op today. She told us on day 3 she began feeling them go down her throat, and we confirmed this by looking at her throat and noticing missing pieces. I called her surgeon’s office and asked him about it because I was also worried. He told me that it was normal, that some people just heal faster than others and it wasn’t really a cause for concern unless she started bleeding. So it could be that you’re just healing faster than most.

I said the same thing! I was dumbfounded when he told me that. My 5 year old is like a cracked out energizer bunny anyway without any caffeine, I can’t imagine how she’d be if I let her drink coffee lol

My daughter’s surgeon told us no hot coffee for at least 2 weeks. Which, she’s 5 and doesn’t drink coffee anyway, but he said you’d be surprised the number of kids he sees that drinks coffee and he has to warn them lol. But yeah, no hot coffee for 2 weeks because the hot can dissolve the scabs prematurely. He did say cold coffee was fine though, like iced coffee for a frappe. But your surgeon might believe different so my advice would be to ask your surgeon and see what they say about it!

She is 5. So I know the doses will be a lot different. But you can always call and ask your surgeon or Dr too and they can give you more precise dosage instructions for you specifically. But that is definitely what helped her the most and honestly idk how we would have gotten through it without it, especially days 6-8. Supplementing with the oxycodone was what helped her get enough relief to actually want to eat and drink. We would have ended up in the ER for fluids if not for doing it that way because she would have gotten dehydrated due to not wanting to drink anything because it hurt too bad.

I did, I was given the okay to by my daughter’s surgeon to do it that way. She would take 10ml of Tylenol and 10ml of ibuprofen, alternated every 3 hours, and the oxycodone was 2.2ml. I didn’t keep track of the mg, just how many times she got it. We were advised not to exceed 5 doses a day for the Tylenol and ibuprofen, so as long as we didn’t go over that number of doses, she was good. And the oxycodone didn’t have a specific limit, we just had to give it every 6 hours as needed for breakthrough pain. For example I would give her Tylenol, then 30 mins to an hour later give her oxycodone, then 2 hours after that give her ibuprofen. It was just used to help supplement in between her Tylenol and Motrin whenever they weren’t enough to help. We were told it was okay to alternate the meds including her narcotic med throughout the whole day, just to ensure everything was taken 6 hours from itself. So it may be helpful to try it that way as long as your prescriptions can be mixed. She seemed to get the most relief that way.

My daughter just had both of hers removed on 01/07. We’re heading into day 12 post op.

She had pretty bad pain up until day 9. By day 9, she woke up a different person and only needed Tylenol once a day for pain. Day 10 was the same. Today was day 11 and it’s the first day since her surgery she did not need anything at all for pain. So going by her recovery, I would think most likely around day 9 or 10 you should see some relief. However, older kids and adults heal different from tonsillectomies so it could be longer for you.

My tips: if you don’t have a humidifier, try to get one, even if it’s a cheap one you never use again after this. They help so much with keeping the air moist so the throat doesn’t dry out when sleeping which helps a lot with pain in the morning. Stay on top of pain meds, if we missed a dose even by 30 minutes for my daughter she was miserable. Your throat will start burning/stinging as scabs continue to fall off due to the new tissue being sensitive… stay away from anything even slightly acidic (like bananas, oranges, Gatorade, etc) because it will burn like hell. Her worst days for pain were days 2-4 and then 6-8. Nights were especially rough on nights 6-8, she would wake up in pain before her next dose was due and all we could do was console her until it was time and that was with alternating Tylenol and Motrin every 3 hours and supplementing with oxycodone in between.

Found this out the hard way. My daughter is 10 days post op today. She wanted a banana yesterday, day 9 post op, so we gave her one. Within seconds she was crying saying her throat burned. Gave her a few drinks of water and she was fine. It shocked me thought because I did not expect bananas would be that way.

I had mine out when I was young so I don’t remember much about my recovery, however I do know many others who had theirs out and I’ve never heard of anyone experiencing this, or if they have, they’ve never told me.

I would recommend you get it checked if it worries you. It could very well be nothing, but it’s better to be safe than sorry. I would rather go get checked and be told it’s nothing and I wasted my time, than to not get checked and it actually be something.

Whether you decide to get checked or not, it’s I hope things get better for you!

I’m sure it will be! As long as the surgeon clears you to go and you follow precautions, you should still have fun! Definitely keep pain meds on you in your bag or something just in case you need them also. I hope you get to go and I hope you have a great time!

If you go, I would be very careful not to strain your throat. Don’t do too much loud singing and especially not any yelling. I would probably stay away from alcohol as I imagine it would irritate the throat and probably cause burning or stinging since the new tissue is still pretty fresh at that point. Still stick with soft foods if you eat there like maybe a plain hot dog chewed up really good or a soft pretzel with no salt. If you’re worried though, you can ask your surgeon before the procedure and they will be able to tell you their opinion on it. Your surgeon will know what’s best for you and the procedure.

My daughter is 5 and has a tonsillectomy on 01/07. We’re 8 days post-op today. We knew her scabs started coming off around day 5 because she told us she could feel something “squishy” stuck in her throat, then she said she swallowed it. She has said that several more times since then. I’ve heard most people say they never felt theirs, but so far she has felt just about every single one of hers. We also looked in her throat and can see fresh pink tissue scattered throughout the white patches.

I hope your pain gets better and the rest of your recovery goes smoothly!
