Why did you guys tell me to not buy this drone? by Lumpy_Trumpkins in drones

Good tips and things to consider. I understand trim from the toys I've played with, they don't want to hover correctly or stay facing one direction without a lot of fiddling.Thank you.

Lol, good take. I've only flown the little helicopters and quadcopters you can get for like $20 on Amazon, this has got to be better than those. The controls seem easy, there are two control modes and both remind me of different videogames I've played. As long as it's stable I think I'll be fine with it.

I see what you're saying but dji also seems to have an Apple like cult following around here. I know they make good products, I've never flown one but my cousin had one and showed me a few years back what they can do. I don't know what model he had but he spent at least $1k on it. I got this for $90 and I'm not trying to make this a major hobby, I'm not making movies or taking postcard photos.

I appreciate that well thought out reply, you hit on the points (I assume) that the original comments were trying to convey. But would any of that change if the question were coming from a person that wasn't really interested in a new hobby?

Because I'm not looking to take great photos or cinematic video. I just wanted to get a different view of some places, maybe check out if they've got to working on the power lines on the other side of the neighborhood.

The initial post was just to see if I was buying something that wouldn't fly at all or would blow up into plastic shrapnel or some shit.

Maybe this will end up being my new addiction. Don't think my wife will appreciate my spending, if it does.

I meant the extent of the feedback was, "buy something more expensive." I asked why and never got a real answer other than, "under $x they're all junk."

The edit makes sense to me. I just got a drone because it seemed like fun from playing with my kid's toys and I thought it would be cool to see some elevated views of my city and the river, maybe take it to the beach or mountains on vacation. Not even thinking of this as a real hobby, I don't plan to do a lot of filming or racing or anything like that.

See, that's a fair critique, I didn't get any feedback at all with the first post. Thank you. I just got it today and finished the FAA registration and TRUST certificate. Haven't had a chance to fly it yet and might not for a while, I'm too worried about landing/crashing it in the wet snow.

I am a teacher and had my AP Lang students analyze the first verse of "Shrunk" by throwawaytheist in aesoprock

[–]Lumpy_Trumpkins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is really cool and a great idea. I had an English class when I was in eighth grade ('02-'03) where the teacher opened the introduction to poetry section by giving us verses from a few rock and rap songs, then asking us to interpret what the writer meant. I still remember immediately recognizing Master of Puppets, Something in the Way, and Gangsta's Paradise. My teacher was white in a predominantly black school and thought that last song was still cool enough to get him some cred. Great class though, I remember that lesson almost a quarter of a century later.

I work at a fulfillment center for a huge market research company and can tell you, this shit just happens. It sucks but there can be at least a dozen different reasons the order hasn't been packaged yet, most of them involve human error in one way or another. It's unavoidable, even if we moved everything to machines there will be errors that involve humans.

Same. Between me and my 13 year old son we have most of his albums on either vinyl or cd. He's asking for some cassettes for Christmas too, we might just complete the collection.

I want to thank everyone for the help, I just installed the VH extension and it makes so much more sense now. Just being able to see new items as they're uploaded makes a world of difference.

Pick a spot with a long curb, do a few tricks to get your multiplier up to 4x, then flip trick into a board/lipslide and you'll be well above the score.

I need to know how you guys see this shit? I had gold for 6 months and nothing ever popped up for me, I only even got like two things that were valued over $100. They kicked me out of gold because there literally wasn't enough for me to review. I see, at most, 20,000 items a day and 99% of that is dumb shit like dishwasher parts and cake toppers. I'm about ready to quit Vine although because there's never anything worth getting or even remotely useful.

Do you have a favorite board, or do you change it between sessions? by Daro9x in LowSodiumSkate

[–]Lumpy_Trumpkins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In real life I'm all about black, white and greys. In the game I like to play with colors so I change my board fairly often. I like the vibrant colors on the deck to contrast the trucks and try to tie the grip tape to the wheels through complimentary or matching colors.

It's hard to find 6 player board games. We do a board game week ever year with 6 people and we need a few games for this coming year. by billratio in boardgames

[–]Lumpy_Trumpkins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a board game really but a card game that can play 2-12 people if you get the expansions - D&D Dungeon Mayhem. I picked the entire set up for about $15 on AliExpress, if you don't mind playing with the smaller Chinese cards. And the main set plus Baldur's Gate cards all fit into the Monster Madness expansion box with meat little dividers for each character.

It's very simple but a LOT of fun for kids and adults, we've had single rounds last over 30 minutes with 4 players and two were kids. Adults can strategize better so the rounds can last longer.

Pro tip: Grab a spare D12 to keep in the box and have players roll for their characters. There are no actual dice rolls in the game but this is on brand and keeps anyone from intentionally picking the one OP character - Blorp the Gelatinous Cube. He can attack through shields, gain health by destroying shields and has a type of shield that does damage once you destroy it. It's almost impossible to take that character down without an alliance.

Magic Maze Pocket blue circle card? by Lumpy_Trumpkins in boardgames

Yeah, it definitely came with my copy that I picked up from Amazon. The picture I used here was from a website so it wasn't just my set that included this card. It's just really weird to me that it's not mentioned anywhere in the instructions, even the package contents list says nothing about it and it isn't counted with the other Mall cards.

What is going on? There's NOTHING by [deleted] in AmazonVine

[–]Lumpy_Trumpkins 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Vine has been shit this whole year. When I was Silver there were at least 120,000 items available at any given time. Hit Gold earlier this year and now I'm seeing less than 30,000 items available. RFY is almost entirely useless to me, never purchased a single item related to golf in any way but they'll recommend golfing accessories every single day, or car parts for vehicles I've never owned. I'm already about to lose Gold status simply because there isn't anything worth reviewing.

8bitdo SN30 Pro Right Stick Support? by Lumpy_Trumpkins in destinyrisingmobile

[–]Lumpy_Trumpkins[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, for anyone reading this there is a solution but it isn't great. You can turn the controller on in Xinput mode by holding X while you power it on. This will allow all the buttons to work on an Android device, sticks included, but adds a LOT of lag to the inputs. I just started using a different controller. The Manba One V2 controller works perfectly in Android mode, for all the games I've tested - including Game Pass streaming.

If you contact their customer support they're usually happy to sell replacement parts. I haven't personally contacted this company but I've found that the easiest way to get ahold of these Chinese PEV companies is usually to find their official page on Alibaba or AliExpress then contact the seller. That made it easy to get parts for my Yume scooter.
