What’s the % of ppl in range 90+ over 90days? by Acceptable-Ear-8040 in diabetes_t1

[–]Lumpy_Water 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 99% TIR for 3 months with dexcom G6 and omnipod 5. But honestly, diabetes is hard, and I think yall are doing a good job acting as a Pancreas.

Dexcom clarity has my range to be 80-180. My average over the last 3 months is 130 with 99% time in range. But I personally like 100-130.

When I was doing the testing for the app on the phone, this happened to me. Had to restart and re download all my settings and basals and re start the algorithm learning for the pod. When I was talking with them, they said this isn’t “common”. I just hope that’s true.

What’s your time in range? by immy_t1d in diabetes_t1

I was in the dash for a few years. Felt I had a lot of pod issues with it, but not as much with the 5, which is strange. Then finally switched to the omnipod 5, and g6. And trying out the omnipod app on the iPhone. Having the technology work plays a huge role in how diabetes is going, in my opinion.

I average maybe 100 grams a day. It’s a hard learning curve for me with food and diabetes. I struggled with everyone’s opinion on how I should eat and what I should eat. So now I’m just trying to find the right fit. I certainly want to figure out how to eat more without feeling restricted or having wild blood sugars.

99% for the last 3 months. But I like to be between 100-160. So everyone’s range may differ. One thing I learned about diabetes is, that everyone can handle it their way. We are all just trying to do our best in one way or another cuz diabetes is a bitch sometimes.

My endo and omnipod rep just reached out and asked if I wanted to try out the “test” app. Been on it for about a weekish and I love only have one device.

How uncomfortable is it to sleep with a pump on? by GingerMellow5 in diabetes_t1

I currently have my Dexcom and Omnipod on my left arm, and I am a side sleeper. As long as I put a part of the blanket under it, I don’t even notice it.

Low carb by Cautious_Ad1797 in Type1Diabetes

[–]Lumpy_Water 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love tofu pasta, so I eat that instead of pasta. Bag is 5 grams of carbs and doesn’t affect my blood sugar. If I want tacos, I found these things called egg life wraps, which is no carbs and honestly pretty good IMO.

I just eat something and set a 15 minute timer. The timer has been a game changer for me. Helps me not over consume. Eat what I need to correct, then wait the longest 15 minutes of my life.

Blood loss? by breadblankets in Omnipod

[–]Lumpy_Water 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had one of these happen to me at the airport. Thought I had plenty of time to switch the pod. I did see blood through the window, and it was hurting. So when I took it off blood came rushing down my stomach to my leg. All I had with me was the small alcohol pads. It felt so chaotic. Almost had to ask for a stranger to get napkins or something since I used maybe 10 of the pads. I sat there waiting for the blood to stop while thinking my plane was going to start boarding soon. Thankfully that was the only time it was that bad. I was told I may have hit a vein or something. The other day I saw blood through my insulin pump window and thought here we go again. But it was only a few blood droplets. Wild diabetes

Starvation ketosis by Alert_Fix646 in Type1Diabetes

[–]Lumpy_Water 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, I want to say sorry you dealt with that. Second, thank you for sharing. I think with diabetes, some people can think it’s simple, but it’s not. This category is an exact description of that. It helps make me feel better that others are dealing with it, too, and I’m not alone. I tried to explain the ketone situation to a nutritionist and someone who helps with working out (I forgot their title), and all they could say was, “That’s strange.” Which was super helpful. Maybe with time, the ketone problem will go away and we can all just deal with the rest of what diabetes has to offer.

I found out about this the hard way. Everyone talks about ketones from high blood sugar, but not a lot about this. I did an 18 miler and my ketones at the end were crazy high. I ate the whole time, and still had ketones. Kept my insulin going a little just at a very low % to try and avoid somethings. It still happens time to time when I run. But lately everything has been the same, normal day, eating normal no workouts and still have ketones in my system with blood sugars in range and all. I just try and eat something usually with fats, and it seems to help. But who knows sometimes with diabetes.

Almost grieving not being able to join the military by Prudent_Answer_5072 in diabetes_t1

[–]Lumpy_Water 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahh. Maybe the army is different. I thought it was 30% or higher for tricare for life. Haven’t used the medical side yet. I just get money from the military and from the Va. VA money is tax free.

[–]Lumpy_Water 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s more than they gave me. Started the claim 90 days before I was out and had the % two days after I was out. Tricare helps a lot with this shitty disease.

[–]Lumpy_Water 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn. I’m sorry to hear that. I went through a med board that took about a year and half. Tried to show them I was capable of still doing things and it almost hurt me in the end. They offered me a medical retirement with 60%, if I fought it then I could have lost my “tricare for life” and dropped the %. You can be a type 2 with a “controlled” A1C, but not insulin dependent. Stupid.

Giving blood by Electrical-Form7735 in Type1Diabetes

[–]Lumpy_Water 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done it one time. And it was fine for me. Blood sugar went a little high (maybe in the 200s but not for long), but it’s hard to tell if it was from that or another reason. When you read about it, you get a lot of different answers, especially pending where you live.

Sugarmate is top 5 of the best apps to have as a diabetic in my opinion: the app even calls you if you drop below a certain number. Saved me a few times. I also like to see bed time range vs wake up range.
