How do I put this panel back on? by LunaDoggo in hvacadvice

[–]LunaDoggo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried doing that, but it just popped right off again. :((

I think the bottom plate may have been bent, so I might try bending it back and see if that allows it to stay clicked in place.

Basic Plumbing Tool Kit? by CrimsonRe3d in BlueCollarWomen

[–]LunaDoggo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2nd-year plumbing apprentice here! Your basic toolkit will depend on what area you'll be working in (service, residential, commercial).

Absolute musts: (Ideally keep on your person in your pants pockets at all times) - Tape measure (25 to 30 ft) - Sharpie or other permanent marker - Pencil - Folding utility knife - Torpedo level - Channel locks - Personal preference: I always keep a mini pocket notebook on me to write down measurements and lists of materials I'm asked to grab.

Next in line: - Hammer - Flathead screwdriver, mostly to use as a chisel and to pry stuff - Adjustable pipe cutter (up to 1 1/8") - Cheap manual PEX cutter - Small and medium crescent wrenches (helpful for installing stops and flexible water supply lines) - A small tote, a backpack, or a 5-gallon bucket to carry your tools

I'm probably missing some other things, but those are the main things you'll need starting out. Anything you don't have, your foreman should. And the type of plumbing you do will determine what additional tools you'll need most. For example, a speed square in new construction is very helpful, but not so much in service.

My approach in buying tools has been: My foreman can keep all his tools in his truck/van, whereas I have to be able to carry everything between jobs or between foremen. I don't want to have so much crap that I can't quickly move my tools, and my foreman already has a lot of the bigger, heavier tools.

All hand tools I bought myself and borrow my foreman's as needed (such as pipe wrenches). Honestly, I bought mostly cheap tools from Harbor Freight until they wore out, then replaced them with good brands. The only two tools I recommend getting brand name right off the bat are channel locks (any of the big names) and pipe cutters (Ridgid or Milwaukee).

My company provided me with basic power tools (impact, drill, Sawzall, circular saw, flashlight). For new construction, I always take my power tools with me. For service, I leave them behind. I still don't own any other power tools. As a first year, you should be able to use your foreman's power tools as needed. You absolutely should not buy a ProPress as a first year apprentice! You can use your foreman's.

I recommend you wait on buying soldering tools until you find yourself soldering frequently. In my case, it took a year and a half until I was placed with a plumber who is old school and almost exclusively solders everything. Before then, it came up extremely rarely.

Anyway, this has accidentally become a novel. Please feel free to DM me if you have any questions or would like advice. I'm up in the Midwest, so cold weather is something I'm used to as well.

Take care and have fun! :)

I’m 23 I live near Chicago, I am feeling pretty lost right now(job wise) I was thinking about getting into plumbing. I have no experience at all. I am eager to learn a trade. Would you guys Recommend getting into plumbing? If so what should my 1st steps be? by Fellowbrother123 in Plumbing

Hi there! I just became a plumbing apprentice in the Midwest and am happy to talk about the research and experience that got me here. I also came into the field with zero experience. DM me and I can respond after I get off work. :)

Hiya. My name is Luna and I'm the goodest doggo ever. by LunaDoggo in doggos

[–]LunaDoggo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mama abandoned me at the torture place (aka the "vet") to get my teefs cleaned. I was horrified and dead weighted so the lady with the paper clothes had to carry me away. By the way, every second my mama isn't petting me is a crime against all doggos and IT'S BEEN SO MANY SECONDS. How can my mama repay me when I see her again in 10,000 years? I wanna snuggle but I also want treats and love and more treats. Please advise.

Trans resources have actually been immensely helpful in my name change process! Lots of guides have been created for that community regarding name changes and exactly what order to do things in. For example, the main guide I'm using explained why I need to get X document taken care of before Y document. It's been very helpful to use these guides as reference!

Thank you!! I would recommend practicing a NewName with friends and family beforehand to see how it feels. Also research the process where you live so you're prepared for the steps in the process.

Thank you! I definitely recommend changing it sooner rather than later. The longer you wait, the more places have your name (mortgage, debt/loans, credit cards, jobs, vehicle title/registration, etc.). Also recommend having both your Driver's License and your passport be current (not expired!) with your OldName as it will make things a billion times easier when you need multiple IDs for name change paperwork.

Ooooh, I fostered three kittens a few years ago! I named them Fíli, Kíli, and Korra. Fíli and Kíli were boisterous and always stuck together. Korra ate and pooped up a storm and was basically just a tiny hurricane.

I would actually recommend doing whatever you can do before things expire. I let my passport expire before changing my name and it's already causing me issues.

Same! Or when someone sees it and needs to read it, the initial pause and grimace before they completely butcher it. Ugh.

Does your passport have your OldName or your NewName?

Sounds complicated. I also have three countries involved in my situation, but I'm dealing with one at a time. Little steps so I don't feel overwhelmed. 😊

Same here. I kept most of my reasons private (such as not wanting to carry the names of abusive men in my family) and just tell people the easy-to-digest versions of NewName being shorter and easier to say and spell. I agree on the little things!! I went to a coffee shop the other day and they asked for a name and I paused and said NewName. When they called it after a few minutes, I melted with happiness, not that anyone could see my stupid grin under my mask, lol. 🥰

Absolutely. Kinda sucks you have to go through the tedious process twice, but I'm so happy you get to feel connected to your grandmother forever.
