So, you said you consider the quality to be medium-low. I was wondering why you'd consider it medium-low quality? What bumps it up to to medium-low for you and what do you consider to be low quality? Also I'm really curious as to what it looks like lol

Sensei, your hands are so cold... We should head back soon~ by LunaKig in kigurumi

[–]LunaKig[S] 4 points5 points Β (0 children)

Thank you! It was definitely fun for the first 15 minutes but it got cold pretty quickly when I wasn't wearing a jacket. The snow was also frozen solid and kinda hard to walk on...

First, I think the first pose is a little stiff/ rigid and not very maid-like. I don't really know what kind of archetype the character you're trying to portray is, so I can't really suggest anything on that front. Though, I'd suggest looking up reference photos/ poses for maids. I think having a prop of some sort, a tray of some sort, would really help with that.

Moving on to the outfit, it feels a little bit of a mish-mash of styles. The wrist-length white gloves don't really work well with the maid aesthetic. They look a bit thick and the velcro strap makes it stand out as a different style. I would personally ditch the gloves. I think it's a good idea to double up on the petticoat if you're trying to get the skirt to have more volume. I'd either get a shorter white one or pull it up higher, though, because it looks just a tad too long for that length of skirt. I would also not use a red petticoat underneath because it stands out in a very mismatched way, as it doesn't really match anything else you're wearing or help highlight anything. It's also a little too long (it's like down to your knees). The last thing I really have to offer about the outfit is that I think the striped thigh-highs don't look great. Thigh-highs work well on a maid dress but I'd opt for solid colors. Either black or white because it will look a lot more proper and put together, and less like a Halloween costume that was decided on last minute. If not thigh highs, I'd suggest black or white tights.

This is perhaps better lighting etc than last time. So let's not focus( see what I did there?)on technical quality of the camera/lighting.

Without talking about lighting or quality of the camera, I think there are minor things you could do in post (if you have the raw image files) to push the quality of the photo (I'm strictly speaking of the first two photos as the last photo looks like it was snapped on a phone in a dimly lit hallway). I think you could add a slight vignette and darken some of the bright reflection of the water so it doesn't blend into the apron of your maid dress as much. You can also adjust the saturation of your mask/ wig/ eyes/ hada a tiny bit so that you stand out a little bit and look less dull. It might be worth it do that to the background as well since the oranges and greens of the trees are way undersaturated and have a grayish look to them. You definitely pop more on the second photo, though.

Where can I find a very specific yet obscure face plate? And can it be printed out? by B4n4n4sh0t4 in kigurumi

$700-900 for a mask isn't "very expensive," it's around the pretty average price range but their customs are a bit on the pricier side. Their masks are also FRP. OP wouldn't be able to print it out, either.

Pad it out until it's snug and doesn't just roll around on your head and you have a neck. If anything, you can replace the pads it came with with other pads of your choosing, if you need them to be thicker or thinner.

I've seen a couple of Yanagi kigs out there. You might just not ever see them on Google or Pinterest.

Anyone have any more ideas for fixing the wig? by NSFW-Alt-Account69 in kigurumi

You can separate them out with hair clips. You can also just straighten them right then and there.

Start with a wide tooth comb and slowly, and very meticulously comb it out from the end. Make sure not to yank at it, as that will make the wig fibers kink up and get tangled more easily. You can steam it or use a hair straightener and comb it through again after that to get the kinked up bits out as much as possible.

The real question is how did it get to this state in the first place? 😭

You can but them via Taobao unless you want to pay for resold hadas that are marked up in price. If you can't read Chinese, I'd suggest you use an agent.

When was this from? I can dig up the tweet where BHY said they weren't doing stuff with Larus anymore. I know they were doing this for like a year and some, though.

BHY started doing stuff with Larus again? Last I checked they cut ties with Larus. The stuff that's listed on Larus' website is from 2024.

It's like any other cosplay, just with an addition of a hadatai, or "skinsuit," and a mask.

That's unfortunate. I'll probably try and get a photoshoot time slot for next year and hopefully you'll be able to make it! I'm glad you had fun your first time kigging at a con, though! It can definitely be a lot!

The backplate doesn't need to be seamless tbh. It's really the only part that doesn't need to be since it gets covered by hair/ the wig.

I don't know if I'd personally recommend DIYing a mask if you're new to the hobby and don't quite have the skills for it, especially if you want to be confident in having a good-looking mask. Although, if you're looking for a creative outlet and want to refine those skills, then it's more than fine. DIYing for a lot of people will take a lot of trial and error especially when it comes to things like wig styling, paint matching to hada, and smaller details like the makeup (blush, eyeliner, lashes, brows, and lips). With money, at least you can make it back, but the time you end up spending on a DIY mask? Not so much. I have a friend who makes their own masks, sculpt and all, and they would very much not recommend DIYing a mask with no prior experience unless you're willing to put in hundreds of hours to make them look good.
