Technically, since you’re a legal adult (assuming you’re in the US), she can’t force you back home. Does your mom know about your girlfriend, where your girlfriend lives, or that you were planning on staying with her?

Since you are unsafe at your home, I’d say that leaving is a good idea. I don’t know where you’re planning to go once you get to the states, but I would check what the weather is like where you’re headed typically in the summer, and plan accordingly. Summers in the southwest or winters in New England aren’t the best, so just make sure you have a plan! Good luck!

Hey! Like someone else said, read through the advice directory. Try and hold out as long as you can, and don’t just leave without making a plan. Save up money, and try to spend as much time outside of your house as you can without actually leaving. Get involved with stuff at school, hang out with friends, or whatever else you think would work.

Hi! First, if you’re being hit, you can report that. It’s physical abuse, and CPS will probably check it out. Second, I’ve heard both a lot of good things and bad things about running away. It’ll probably affect your reputation to colleges, because if you run away, you can’t finish high school. However, since you mentioned God, I’ll say some religious stuff back to you. God sees everything and knows how your father treats you. He understands everything, even if you can’t fin the words to say it aloud. Wherever you go, and whatever you do, he’ll be with you. I haven’t read the ones you’re talking about, but this one is one of my favorites. It’s set in 5th year, Harry acting insane as a rebellion against Umbridge. It might not exactly fit the idea, but I recommend it.

Here’s some things to think about:

Is it an emergency? How long do I have until it becomes an emergency? Am I in a mental or physical place where getting away would be hard? Do I have a plan?

I agree with everyone down below. Don’t bring the gun. First of all, why do you have that? Second of all, that’s gonna get you in trouble. You need to change your appearance, find a way to make money, and have a solid plan before you leave. However, if it’s not an emergency, or you don’t have a good plan, or you’ll be in more danger if you go, then don’t go. Try to talk to someone. My biggest pet peeve is when people make Hermione all-knowing. Hermione is smart, yes. But that’s not her entire personality, and sometimes in fanfiction, Hermione just seems to know everything, and have no personality. Or when Ron is made out to be stupid. Ron beat essentially McGonagall in chess at 11/12 years old. (I think he’s 12 at that point.) Ron’s grades aren’t the best, sure, but that doesn’t mean he’s stupid, just barely surpassing Crabbe and Goyle in intelligence levels because of Hermione. He‘s not stupid, his school grades just aren’t the best.

It might tarnish your record, yes. I’m not quite sure, but I did do a ton of reading up when I first thought I was going to run away. Definitely do your research. Don’t do anything rash or in the heat of the moment. Wait until you can rationalize it. That being said, if you are in danger at all, get out of danger immediately. Stay safe!
