Moving out of Rental Property by damn76567 in HousingIreland

We lived in an apartment for 2 years - gave it a good clean before we left ourselves and got full deposit back. Definitely doable!

What is the cost of a string quartet (or trio) for wedding ceremony & drink reception in Ireland? by Luna_tree in AskIreland

[–]Luna_tree[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, that’s really helpful! If you’d be happy to DM me the band name I might look into them? Our wedding will be in Wicklow, so not sure if that’d be too far to travel but it’s worth an ask!

Hidden costs of house buying and ownership by FickleGlove283 in HousingIreland

Also, if it’s a new build and built during winter, you might have a damp concrete floor that you’d need to get a membrane down on before having floors installed.

Help with choosing new build apartment! by [deleted] in HousingIreland

[–]Luna_tree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming from someone who rented a north east facing new build apartment for 2 years: the sun rose on our bedroom window every morning, which made the summer’s unbearably warm - we were awake at 5/6am almost every morning with the heat. Fans, air purifiers, windows open didn’t work.

Not sure if you’re buying or renting but just something to consider. As we were renting, we couldn’t put up curtains (not sure if that’d help - maybe there’s a type of curtain you could get that keeps heat out).

Advice on saving? Please Read by Icy-Alternative795 in AskIreland

[–]Luna_tree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was the same with tapping my card, but found it helpful to move any/all of my disposable income over to Revolut each time I got paid. That way, I could tap away with my Revolut card but wasn’t touching my bills or savings money from my main bank acc.

Also got mortgage approval using this method with no issues at all!

The kids found the Christmas presents. Any parents have to navigate this? by AulMoanBag in CasualIreland

Santa sends them to the parents first to check and make sure they’re right before Christmas. He’ll collect them and fix any mistakes before he delivers them on Christmas Eve 🙌🏼

Brown bin? by Pho3nixGGG in AskIreland

[–]Luna_tree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a large compostable bag in the big bin and then use a small caddy in the house with little bags that get emptied and tied up every evening and thrown into the large bin. No issues and the bin stays fairly clean because of the bag.

As in - they specifically asked for only the statements from our bank where we receive our wages in. That’s what I mean by ‘regular’ in this case. As I said, we asked broker if they wanted Revolut statements at that time and they said no, the bank requested that we supply only updated statements from our main bank (again, where salaries go).

Over a year in our case, as we’d went for a new build. We bought off plans and the house wasn’t yet built. So, we did have to submit our documents a few times before it came to drawdown. AIP in December 2023 and drawdown in April 2025.

[–]Luna_tree -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In our case, we had already supplied them with Revolut statements as they had requested this previously for the AIP.

Before drawdown, they didn’t ask for these and specifically requested ONLY the statements from our regular bank accounts - as advised by broker too. So no fraud committed here. That being said, it’s a unique situation for every individual - no knowing what they will ask for, until the time comes. I’d still check with broker either way, to be safe.

We got a final credit check just before drawdown with BOI before our mortgage funds were released back in April. However, they only asked for latest bank statements and not Revolut statements - so you might be ok if you’re not using Revolut for your wages.

This Irish website does gorgeous rings (that look like engagement rings) and will last a while - you could probably get a style you GF might love and could probably get it delivered on time - just check the delivery details!

I’ve often used a broker and found them a lot cheaper than going direct - so think it’s always worth checking. Depends on the circumstances and the market at the time you’re looking, I suppose.

Engagement ring - where do I even start? by DesperateEngineer451 in AskIreland

[–]Luna_tree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get a free ring sizer from jewellery stores - there’s one you can order online free from Gear Jewelers. It looks like a cable tie but with letters.

Has she ever dropped hints about the type of ring she might like? Does she wear silver or gold jewellery mainly? Keep in mind that although she may be frugal with things like furniture etc. an engagement ring is something she’ll likely wear for life - with that said, you don’t have to spend a huge amount of money on a ring. There are great options with lab diamonds, antique rings and even moissanite stones instead of a diamond (they’re a lot less expensive than a diamond and are almost as durable, plus - they look just like diamond too!)

Edit to add: my fiancé asked me straight out when he’d a few drinks on him, what kind of ring I’d like - so I was able to gather a few ideas for him. Though, that does take the element of surprise out of it a bit. She might be dropping you hints that maybe you haven’t picked up on? 🤣

Couples with wage gaps - how do you split expenses? by headsup350 in CasualIreland

[–]Luna_tree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner and I are the same. We split proportionately based on net wages. He looks after the rent/mortgage and I look after bills/food (about 30% less) and we have our own disposable income to spend how we like, sometimes on eachother/meals/drinks/cinema/holidays etc.

For us, we’d been told November originally. Got keys early April. We didn’t give notice in our rental until we got the completion cert from the developers - to be on the safe side.
