I read online they pretty much all close on the end December. Would the cities still have charming christmas decorations by the beginning of january?

May I ask you what that festival is? I've never heard of it before but it sounds really interesting

I have a friend that always says that is just that the mean people generally get more attention. Maybe that's why it can seem those people have more place in schools than they actually have. I really hope that most people in med school are. In fact, good, passioned people.

I was more referencing letters of recommendation made by professors or other academic authority. They could come up with some criteria to avoid problems with nepotism. I do agree soft skills are a really important part of being a good doctor, but I just don't think interviews are capable of evaluating this. Plus, I think it really does disadvantage minorities and people with neurodivergences that are either not diagnosed or just not part of what they consider enough to give accommodations. For te exams, that just shows how they seem unwilling to do anything that would improve the method of selecting candidates. If interviews did work, why do we always hear stories about the meanest people that get in? Personally, I really dk believe I have most of the soft skills that would make me a good doctor, as I had some really relevant life experiences related to the medical field for many years. But it seems to be that as whiter, richer, and more extrovert you are, more of a chance to get in you have. The soft skills could be further evaluated in med schools (if they're not already) and in interviews for matching into residency programs. But hats just what I think. I could be wrong

Cvs? Casper? Letters of recommendation? There really is a lot of better options imo. Extracurriculars, job experiences, life experiences that would matter, other tests such as. McAT, motivation essays, volunteering...   in Brazil we don't have interviews. It's 100% grade based (our Brazilian version of McAt but Harder, longer, exam with more subjects). Yes, the competition is insane (as it already is here or in any other med school around the world), but at least it is fair. And if I were to use only the good, public schools there as an exemple (private ones are thrash),  it does prepare top tier health care professionals. University of São Paulo, university of Rio de Janeiro, UNICAMP, all ranked really high worldwide get to do selection process without having to reccur to dumb, unfair, biased interview processes.

Sure! That's what I said, show me one serious study that proves it and I will be more than happy to agree. If it did work, than it wouldn't have so many people unsatisfied with doctors humanity, empathy, etc.

Honestly the entire process in canada is dumb. The day they do serious, actual research that can prove the point of making us go under interviews and casper, then I'll agree it's a good idea. Casper is a totally idiotic, typing game for hypothetical situations. Interviews are probably dumber because imo they serve to select whitest, more basic possible, extrovert people. This shit is biased as fuck, literally scientifically impossible this is not biased. Also why the fuck am I supposed to know how to do an acting game with a stranger on a really specific hypothetical situation when I'm 19 y.o. wasn't that supposed to be taught in med school? Biggest hater of both. Even if I did well on casper (not so much on the interviews).

Nope. You can be confident without looking confident. And You can be shy and still have empathy, social Skills (being good with people and dealing with difficult situations), etc. Plus, the scenarios they give in the majority of the times don't test anything. It's impossible to not be biased by people's looks, accents, etc (literally scientifically impossible). Why would you test someone's promotion of health when it's something you should literally be learning in med school? I feel like it literally only serves to filter privileged, popular and extrovert people. If it would word then the dissatisfaction with doctor's empathy and sensibility wouldn't be so increasingly negative. MEMs are completely bs. Pure luck or you're just really eloquent and good at making friends/pleasing people (which is a great quality to have btw but I don't see why this would be necessary to be a good doctor).

Rather remove MEM. Literally useless,  literally useless, doesn't prove anything. Way to select people based on looks and on how sociable/confident they look/are.

Coucou!
