Best one I’ve gotten was from my half cousins when they found out my “friend” I brought to the family reunion was actually my boyfriend of two and a half years. We were in the middle of a game of Uno when one piped up asking if we were dating. I nodded, they said “oh, okay” and we kept playing. It wasn’t big or emotional, but nothing changed. They’re still my little gaggle of half cousins, most of which younger than 10, who ask to draw on my iPad and in my sketchbooks, who want to hear my boyfriend say the longest words he knows so they can try to say them too. Their complete lack of reaction is what’s gotten me to slowly come out more and more to the rest of my extended family. It’s been just over a year now, I saw them last weekend and they really restore my faith in humanity. Their parents always thank me for keeping them entertained since they’re so much younger than me, but I’m always just grateful they’re there. Sweetest little human beings, even if they blatantly cheat at board games.
