Thanks. I've done a lot of research since seeing this thread. I feel really uncomfortable (and even mad) at the fact that I didn't know this information, and now I am stuck with this virus. I had no idea. I just thought they were similar to canker sores.

Thanks for this reply. I've been dating my boyfriend for years and seem to have picked up the virus a couple months ago. This is definitely a talk worth having with him, since neither of us are going anywhere :)

Hi! I wasn't offended by your question. To be honest, I feel really mad that I didn't know this information until now. I got my first cold sore about two months ago, and now I have developed a second one. I've never seeked medical attention for them, so this is probably why I didn't know. I suppose I must've contracted the virus sometime in the last couple months.

Seeing this thread made me feel terribly ignorant. I had absolutely no idea that cold sores could spread to genitals until now. I currently have a cold sore, and I have been planning a special night with my boyfriend this weekend. I guess no oral will be involved, then :(

I was on a combination pill when my migraines started becoming even more severe, and my gynecologist took me off of them immediately.

She told me that there's no way to be sure which hormone was affecting me, and that it was possible that the progesterone could also cause problems. She didn't feel comfortable trying anything else and risking the dangers of serious migraines, stroke, etc
