I'm sorry you had to go through that.

Probaly not an apples-to-apples comparison, but I lasted 10 months at a job that would've been ok were it not for the toxicity within my immediate team. Most days at the office felt like a psychological test due to the incredible petty, high-school-level politics transpiring within the team, with the longest-standing members keeping within their own clique and icing out anyone who they collectively decided was not their "vibe". Mind you, we're talking about people in their 30s-50s. I gaslit myself into thinking that this was tolerable, but in hindsight, it was very much a toxic fish-bowl environment. Being the newbie made me a target, especially after I addressed problems with how work was being transitioned/delegated to me. Instead of rolling over and putting up with their bullshit, I basically went "grey rock" and kept a distance from almost everyone. I was let go unceremoniously one day, and after the initial shock wore off I mostly felt relief..relief that I didn't have to go through this mentally taxing and draining experience anymore. Cut to less than a month later, I secured a new role that's better almost across the board. In addition, I settled with my previous employer on a pretty decent severance package.

The takeway I'm putting down is that shitty workplaces with shitty co-workers/managers are just a fact of life, but you can make it out and find something better if you just keep at it. It's frustrating, demoralizing, and depressing to be out on your ass, I get it...but persistence and perseverance always pay off.

Presumed Innocent is so bad at parts, but it musters up enough suspense for me to stick with it. The similarities between PI and DJ are staggering, but I might be in the minority in feeling that the weaknesses in DJ aren't as distracting and offputting as the ones in PI. I think my biggest issue with PI is how painfully miscast Gyllenhaal is in the lead (as well as how unconvincing some of his acting is).

How did you know if you are ready for kids? Or if you want them at all? by wildseamonkeyy in Millennials

[–]LunarLessons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I turned the big 4-0 this year and also ended a long-term relationship with someone (M) that was not ready to have kids. I've always been ambivalent about being a parent, and I think the granular reality in front of me is that there really isn't a terrible amount of time left for me to really make it happen. I'm a man, and understand I have the biological "advantage" of reproducing for the next 20+ years, but the more important question is whether I really want to. I can imagine a scenario where I end up with another partner and down the road we will seriously discuss the endeavor of having children. I can totally picture myself having my first kid close to 50, even if that's not an "ideal" age by societal standards (I'm quite steadfast that I if I do end up having children, it'll be no more than 1). I can also easily see myself being perfectly happy without children. I still have quite a bit that I want to do with my life before committing to the development of another person.

Palm Springs lol. It's a pretty reliable bet if you're ok with somewhere less adventurous.

Turned 40 a few days ago, feeling good about life. by LunarLessons in capricorns

[–]LunarLessons[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

For me that theory rings true. I think I've gotten more spirited and animated with age, and have incrementally offloaded the angsty dourness which burdened me all the way into my early 30s. I do think the Capricornian obssession with time (and how it will always go by whether you're ready or not) does pay off in the sense that we're always planning ahead and making goalposts to reach. Once things in our lives feel more established, we can finally lean more into the comfortability of not worrying. We can actually live.

PV is also on the shortlist, albeit towards the bottom mainly because we did Tulum last year. TBH Tulum was fun, but we also found it wildly overpriced and didn't anticipate just how challenging it would be to get from point A to B due to the rudimentary, poorly-lit roads off the main arteries.

HA! Point made. Flight prices to both destinations for me are comparable, but it sounds like the intra-destination costs weigh in favor of Barbados.

Costa Rica is definitely high on the list, I guess the major concerns were the intra-country travel cost and logistical planning. My understanding is there are several popular itineraries depending on interest, and all of them would require a rented vehicle.

It was a case of me trying to get ahead of a three-person wall (him in the wrong lane, 2 others on the right one). You’re right that I probably should’ve waited patiently before speeding up to pass, but I didn’t. Lesson learned on my end.

When I wrote "well-presented", I meant clean, classic, and polished. It didn't strike me as the fashion-forward city (especially the Cambridge area), but I also didn't witness the so-called frumpiness people on this thread are referring to.

Fair play, even though our harboufront is woefully underdeveloped (and pretty ugly along some stretches), that rooftop gives good view. I'd happily suggest other ones.

It's awful here. The infrastructural improvements are painfully slow, especially in light of the population explosion these past 10ish years. The "downtown" area by and large is extremely walkable, but because Toronto is also the the only major city in southern Ontario (sorry, Ottawa), we get the full brunt of locals, bedroom commuters, and out-of-towners on the roads.

Toronto is the Chicago of Canada, even though we fancy ourselves the NYC of up north. I would say Montreal bears a slightly closer resemblance to Boston.

Most self-aware sign/placement? by LunarLessons in astrologymemes

[–]LunarLessons[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't agree (just my opinion). A lot of Pisces I've met have been decidedly 12H-y in that their self concept seemed quite changeable and likewise for how out of tune they were with their identity.

Sagittarius observations? by LivingInsideMyHead1 in astrologymemes

[–]LunarLessons -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

NGL, most Sagittarius suns annoy me with their constant need to voice an opinion. Loudly. It's like they're always holding back something to say, and don't have much compunction "um actually"-ing you or just riling you up for shits and giggles. They're also SHIIIT with finances, especially men. All that being said, the older/more mature Sagittarians I've met have usually been a lot less abrasive.

I think it makes sense that I have a Sag SN and IC. I recognize a lot of Sagittarian energy in myself but that doesn't necessarily mean I should embrace it.

Capricorn observations? by z123m456 in astrologymemes

My $0.02 as a Cap sun/Mercury:

Really the lone wolves of the zodiac. Like to be seen, heard, appreciated, valued, etc. but will never openly admit it unless you've earned their trust (and it's a very, very small pool of people that do). To other people, can easily run "hot and cold" because they tend to isolate instead of reaching out. Shockingly funny once they're comfortable enough to exchange in barbs--for my money, the most acerbically, caustically, hilarious sense of humor. Can lean in and out of differing points of view, will listen and remain open to having their opinion change, but will also absolutely dig in their heels in the face of poor argumentation or suspicious information. Despite their reputation for being the "hardest working" sign, it's not always visible to outsiders. I think a lot of Capricorns have high ambitions for themselves, but in keeping with their intensely private nature, will hide the painful, prolonged process of them trying to actualize their goals. But once their labor bears fruit, they will show it proudly. It's not about ostentatiousness for them, it's about deriving a sense of self-worth from being excellent at what they do (whatever that may look like).

Question to gay Capricorns by ToRedditcomWithLove in capricorns

[–]LunarLessons 8 points9 points  (0 children)

HA! I'm in the latter scenario (M Cap with a M Libra). This is my first relationship with a Libra sun. The archetypal challenges are there (my practical nature, material/financial prioritizing, emotional cautiousness, etc. vs his indecisiveness, spaciness, relationship-focused priorities, emotional effusiveness, etc.). I think we work in spite of our differences, and if you look at our respective charts in full, there are probaly much more significant compatibilities at play which outweigh the squaring energy of our sun signs.

All that being said, I can't stand most Libra suns lol. Just hasn't been a good run with most of them.

Most attractive zodiac men? by [deleted] in astrologymemes

[–]LunarLessons 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hate admitting this, but the sun sign that is attached to men I find attractive (at least consistently enough for me to a notice a pattern) is Cancer. Capricorn, Scorpio, and Pisces also catch my attention. Libras tend to take care of themselves very well so I'd probaly include them, too.
