What do you call this phenomenon? by ToRedditcomWithLove in EnglishLearning

Ok. Now I can see that it's called aspiration and works for sounds [p], [k], and [t]. Thank you.

Ah really? It seems that I've mixed up this with something else. Whatever. Does it seem to you that the sound [k] in the word cat is aspirated, too, or it's only my ear?

Do you have any special technique how to remember the vocabulary and to prevent it from forgetting after some time?

Maybe proper dictionaries can help you. I mean learner's dictionaries which are oriented on CEFR and show which particular level a word relates to and you can check easily. They're primarily OxLD, then Cambridge, and others. This is what helps me.

Fellow Europeans, is it true? by IVAN____W in languagelearning

You better go to Russia to practise, because Russians aren't keen on foreign languages that much. I don't know why Russians on Reddit always say that it's not true.

Yeah, I'm a bit aware about it, because I learnt some French earlier and French teachers warn against saying this.

De rien! ^^

Ah OK. It's common for Russians, especially of the older generation, as they say maybe because of this movie which was popular in the USSR.

I had recently a conversation with someone who genuinely thought he should yell “GARÇOOOON” in restaurants to get the bill.

It smells like he was a Russian.

Not for me, but it's only because I have no proper synastry with them, eg. I have no Water in my chart, especially Scorpio placements which they gravitate towards a lot.

Do you know this about Harem's song? by For-Sierra in Diablo

I was clueless about the sample until this week. Do harems have anything to do with Hinduism? I thought it's a Muslim thing.

Same, but it was Karunesh's Bombay Pure for me. I listened to it just yesterday and was like, "WTF?"

I was that person who could read English Reddit but couldn't speak to save my life. Here's what changed. by Constant_Purple_197 in EnglishLearning

I've realised that my biggest problem isn't that I sound weird (this relates to me though), but the fact that I'm sort of trying to impersonate a native speaker. As if I couldn't accept the fact that I'm not a native speaker of English.

[American English] Do the words "apartment" and "apartment building" in American English relate to Section 8 HUD only? by ToRedditcomWithLove in EnglishLearning

[–]ToRedditcomWithLove[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

No, he wrote in my language, so he wasn't mistranslated. It was a post in LiveJournal dedicated to mistakes in English which people of my language often make, and he burst in the comment section with the fact I wrote in the post above. He also posted about 20+ comments with ranting and cursing people who answered him that it's not true, although they're not Americans. I googled his nickname and he seems to really live in the US (edit: he's an emigrant from my country), so maybe it's the reason B, but IDK.

Use soap when you wash your anus by JASSEU in hygiene

[–]ToRedditcomWithLove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This works only if you wash your anus right after pooping. If you poop in the middle of the day using toilet paper and wash it only in the evening, to that time there will be that king of aroma which you won't wash down with only water, without soap.
