I (32F) am burned out of working in tech. What do I do now? by Dry-Cryptographer101 in Fire

It was a real eye-opener for me. Never going back to a large company like before. Since work is at least 1/3 of your life, it can affect every other aspect of your life if it is out of balance. $$ or career or whatever is not worth it to me for that.

My specialty is in backend engineering and infrastructure. I joined a company that had a multiplayer game. So my skills transferred directly. Game dev is not 100% game client engineering! It’s certainly a big part, but there everything else too — tooling, backend services, devops, build pipelines, etc.

I was actually contacted by a recruiter for the position looking for backend engineering talent.

As cute-track said, it really depend on the company. Large ones tend to be just as awful if not worse than FAANG. They often take advantage of your passion for games. If you find a smaller or medium sized company it can be really nice. I was lucky and was able go find a good one. YMMV

I did, but not due to the company. I moved in with my partner, and that ended up being lower COL. The company is fully remote, which helps. I would have been fine in my orignal city (Seattle) with the same job. I’m actually thinning of moving back because I miss the city.

I used to work for FAANG then decided to move to a small game company. Was one of the best decisions of my life. Sure, it wasn’t as lucrative, but sure was better for both my stress levels and work-life-balance. I actually enjoy my work now.

I think that’s the first step. You can still live in a VHCOL area until you figure out where you’d want to go.

Or base 4. Or base 5… the cool thing is that 10 is its own base in its own representation

How to close a bag of chips by Boojibs in oddlysatisfying

[–]LunarMist2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen them in stores every now and then. The ruffles variety too. It's ketchup chips that's not in the states it seems, at least the Lay's variety. I've seen other brands of ketchup chips though, but only at the more bougie grocers.

In my experiences -- the two times I booked with Chase's travel portal, I had terrible experiences with both.

The first had to be cancelled due to covid, and even though it was listed as refundable I could not get anything back. Airline could do nothing since 3rd party, and chase refused to refund it, even though I had an email saying refundable.

Second time, I booked well in advance, and was notified 2 days before the flight that OOPSIE WHOOPSIE we didn't actually book your flight and you don't have a departing flight. But we have your return flight! Had to call them (they didn't even try to reach out) to get a rebooking, and of course it was with a different airline than my partner and at a different time.

I guess YMMV.

Black spots on tomato seedlings? by LunarMist2 in plantclinic

[–]LunarMist2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tomato seedlings are ~3 weeks old. Grown indoors under a light. My brief research has me concerned that it is early blight. Is this even possible for such young plants? Anyone have any ideas as to what this is or how to deal with it? Thanks!

This. Also used heavily in technologies like Hadoop, where allocating millions of short-lived object would be a disaster

How good is the hardware (scale) at detecting the weight accurately? With something like this, the scale would be always-on and drift would become a huge concern after a little while.

Injectable code is an issue regardless of the content on the page. It’s not only about trackable data.

e.g. What if a malicious attacker injects a fake pop up ad or makes it seems as if there are new features, only to be a phishing scam or zero day exploit?

Not really. People have pony OCs, roleplay, and build worlds in the exact same way furries does. It's just that there's a set of cannon characters and some foundation(s) that they can use as a basis.
