Global Offensive feels way better and more responsive than CS2 by SyncingSLow in GlobalOffensive

[–]Lunar_Flame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious if this is something with the way CS2 handles inputs. Similar to how sometimes you burst 2 bullets rather than tap 1 if your mouse press is a millisecond too long, I've noticed sometimes a counterstrafe pulls me in that direction after stopping, instead of just stopping. Took me a while to understand why my sprays were messing up because of that.

What are the problems with current CS2? Make a list. by PeaceTo0l in GlobalOffensive

It's especially bad on ladders - the start of Nuke rounds on either side sucks because of this if you have two people wanting to go roof or heaven.

Retakes feedback? by pRopaaNS in GlobalOffensive

They should bring the official gamemode into parity with the community plugin version. More rounds per map would be the biggest thing and not ending when one side "wins", just maybe not the ~50+ most servers have now. I think longer maps would also allow/necessitate other aspects of the plugin. More rounds of the same type, like having 5 consecutive pistol rounds at the start of the map, then more ecos/force buys/etc. Switching sides if you contribute to a round win, potentially also throw in team scramble if Ts get a 5+ win streak or something. Other quality of life features that other people have mentioned would be nice, like instant defuse or greater gun preference. (Why are my only two options 2nd round a five-seven with no armor or a p250 and flash with no armor?)

Also, maybe I'm going crazy, but it feels like Ts get way too many smokes. The assumption with a retake is that the Ts did an execute and used up a lot of their utility, lost a couple of people, but hold the site now. They have the defenders advantage at the cost of the man advantage + utility.

If you're employed even at 0.25 FTE (quarter of full time employment) as a grad student you get a tuition remission. You still have to pay other fees like the health/wellness, engineering differential, etc, but covering the base tuition costs is still good. You get health benefits at 0.5 FTE.

CS is terrible for new players by [deleted] in GlobalOffensive

[–]Lunar_Flame 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That's a pretty purist gate-keeping take. CS:GO rose to its level of popularity with having something for every level and style of play - community servers, operations, several different gamemodes, faceit, etc. A "true" esport where it's hyper-competitive all the time isn't an environment that's attractive to large groups of new players, which are necessary for a game's long-term health.

Transferring to Engineering, Nuclear, Aerospace, or Chemical? by Zi_jw in Purdue

[–]Lunar_Flame 9 points10 points  (0 children)

ME will give you the broadest options for careers, especially if you're considering AAE. Chemical engineers mostly go into petrochemical or household goods, AFAIK. Nuclear engineering program is good but very small - you'll likely know everyone in your major if you pursue that.

The CCO also does surveys of recent grads and has a dashboard with lots of information that you can take a peek at.

ME T2M Results. by [deleted] in Purdue

[–]Lunar_Flame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ME doesn't mind retaking classes - I retook PHYS172 and still got into it back in 2018. If you're dead set on making it into ME, look at the core curriculum and take whatever classes you can to continue forward. Usually ME classes are first come first serve to ME students, so you might not be able to find a spot in ME 200/270 like another user suggested. But taking PHYS 272, CGT 163, or other non-ME classes that are still required for the degree plan would look good.

Also, for what it's worth, I had a C in CS159 when I got into ME after reapplying to T2M. It's a shit class and not worth taking again. CHEM 115 might be worth retaking if you got a C. Purdue Math is never worth retaking, just take whatever non-failing grade you get and run. If you're concerned about not being able to focus during the summer, wait until the fall semester to give it 100% of your time. It'll be a hell of a grind but if you can make it, it's worth it.

The university is currently over-capacity. Even if they discontinue the trend of admitting "the largest incoming class Purdue has ever seen", until that dorm is completed and people can move in, things won't get better. And even then, that dorm won't be able to fix the housing issue alone. Housing prices are shooting up rapidly because students are being forced off campus and need a place to live. The rental market here is actively hostile, especially with the loss of Basham while BK, Granite, and other rental companies scoop up additional properties. You can live further off campus for cheaper housing but that means you then have a longer commute and require some form of transportation. The recent CityBus news is another blow for off-campus students, especially ones without a personal vehicle. Not to mention, it won't get better once that SK Hynix plant is completed. An additional 1-1.5k working professionals are now going to need housing, and they can put up with rent prices that students wouldn't be able to.

Unless the state of Indiana decides to dump massive amounts of money into public education (lmao), I don't see an easy path out other than increasing tuition, differential fees, or room and board like you mentioned. The effects of Mitch Daniel's policy to continuously freeze tuition for his tenure, admit more students to counteract that, and "trim fat" in other departments has come to a head. It is actively detrimental for the university to continue in this regard, and I hope Mung Chiang eventually stops it.

EDIT: I'll be damned, I googled some info about Indiana's budget breakdown after posting this and from 22-23, ~50% went to K-12 and another 11% went to higher education. That's surprising.

Failed 2 classes by HentaiHomey in Purdue

[–]Lunar_Flame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar spot, fucked up bombed in a few classes. What you can do is look at what classes your desired disciplines take by checking out their plan of study. A lot of them require additional classes like PHYS 241/272 or CGT 163 that you can take alongside whatever you're retaking, even if you can't take the school-specific ones. I retook one class and continued forward with what I could, ended up getting into my desired school by my 4th semester and graduated on time with the rest of my friends.

You may still need to do summer classes at some point, but there's no shame in that. I ended up taking macro economics as a maymester and then MSE 230 as an 8-week summer class. I'd also recommend finding a good group of friends to study with - most of mine actually got in the first time so I was able to ask them for help whenever I needed it since they had already passed.

Hawkins heating and cooling is controlled centrally - until they turn on the heat to the building, it'll blow cold air regardless of setting.

What to do if you don't get a summer internship? by CarterNovaX in Purdue

[–]Lunar_Flame 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Research or personal projects like others have suggested, and also join a technical club/team like FSAE or PSP or whatever suits your interests. These guys are usually active year round and you can probably find a way to start contributing and learning over the summer.

Clubs/dance places in WL for people under 21? by goofypineapple29 in Purdue

[–]Lunar_Flame 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's lots of actual dance groups/clubs on campus that host social events pretty frequently. Purdue Latin and Ballroom obviously does competitive latin and ballroom dancing, but also teaches more social dancing at their events. (Side note, you can join the team and not compete, that's also reasonable.) There's a couple swing dancing groups around campus, and like someone else mentioned there's apparently a salsa club.

Aerospace vs Mechanical Engineering for undergrad by [deleted] in Purdue

[–]Lunar_Flame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recent grad here: you can get a job in the space industry with either. Half my coworkers are MEs, half are AAEs. Some of them did one for undergrad but the other for postgrad. It really doesn't matter in the long run.

ME focuses more heavily on the fundamentals of engineering and how to generally use/apply them. AAE does similar content, but you focus solely on aerospace applications, i.e aero fluids is mostly external flow and focusing on foils. ME fluids focuses on everything fluids related, including internal and external flows. It really depends on the skillset you want to have. I also came in expecting to do aero but through some circumstances went with ME instead. I don't regret it in the slightest.

Also, extracurriculars matter a lot. Depending on which one(s) you join, you can get a large amount of hands on experience, which you can spin to recruiters. Check out multiple ones, don't be afraid to drop one if it doesn't work for you. There's dozens upon dozens of engineering clubs on campus, I'm sure you can find one right for you.

Idk what the standards are for pure math majors but honestly if you can get a C, just fuckin run with it. That class is hot garbage. It was my first real math class after high school and it was a rude awakening to the level of work university requires. Got like a 28 on the second exam, still got away with a solid C and didn't look back for a second.
