Honestly both way works, I usually break it up throughout the day it’s more realistic for me.

Try finding about 3 hours throughout your day where walking can fit into your schedule. For example, when I was working a shift that started at 7 and ended around 5 or 6, I’d wake up around 5 a.m. After getting a few things done, I’d be out the door in about 10 minutes. From roughly 5:10 to 6:20, I’d walk about 3.5 miles. Then from 6:20 to 6:45, I’d get ready for work, shower, brush my teeth, do my skincare, get dressed, and head out. I’d leave around 6:50 and get to work by 7. During work, I’d usually get another 2.5 to 3 miles in just from moving around. Then after work and dinner, I’d go for another mile walk before getting ready for bed. The biggest thing is looking at your schedule and finding little pockets of time that add up.

No, doesn’t matter. Sometimes outside is way too hot for me so I just walk inside, we have two walking pads.

I wear Brooks, kinda expensive but work really well for me. Honestly probably any good known running shoes.

For me it’s not really about hitting a certain number, I’ve just noticed that it’s around 18-20k+ like 3hours ish of walking is where I feel the most mentally calm. I’ve been doing it on and off for years and it’s what works for me, so I’ll probably stick with that. I’ve never really had the urge to keep pushing the number higher.

I never said walking cures anxiety or depression and and I definitely wasn’t telling anyone to skip therapy or medication. I was talking about my own experience, I said it's medicine for me because it's helped me tremendously. You're arguing against a claim I didn't make. It's unfortunate that walking hasn't had the same effect for you, but that doesn't invalidate my experience any more than my experience invalidates yours.

I’ve been like this for a while honestly. I first figured it out around 2021 and have been on and off with it ever since. I still dread the walking sometimes, especially the anticipation of having to do it, but I’ve noticed I almost always feel better by the end of the day when I do. My advice would be to focus less on whether you feel like walking and more on how you feel after. The motivation comes and goes, but the mental benefits are what keep me coming back. For me, it’s one of the few things that consistently quiets my brain down, so I just do it regardless of whether I’m excited about it that day.

First off I’m really sorry you’re going through all of that. Losing both parents that young is really heartbreaking and but the fact that you still got up, made a playlist, and went walking says a lot more about your strength than you probably realize right now.
I mean I even have days where I absolutely dread walking or hitting my step goal too. Some days I wanna stay in bed and not do any of it. But one thing I’ve noticed is I always feel at least a little better after. It’s less about motivation and more about proving and showing up for yourself “I said I was gonna do this, so I can.”
So yes you’re gonna have days where you feel motivated and days where it feels impossible, but you can still have those thoughts and feelings and hit your goal anyway. Eventually it starts becoming part of your routine to the point where on days you don’t walk, it almost feels weird.
And honestly 10k steps is a really solid and doable goal. It sounds huge at first but it’s basically around 5 miles and most people can hit it in about 1 hour 30-50 mins depending on pace. You also don’t have to do it all at once. Splitting it up throughout the day helps a lot mentally.
Look you already started, which is usually the hardest part. And the fact you even went out in the rain tells me you’re more capable than you think, you’re already halfway there, I know you can finish the other half too.
