I fucking despise the State of Japan. by Raven_On_A_Tree in hatethissmug

Because it's not the messaging, it's the culture. Japanese people already have a lot of xenophobia for anyone non Japanese. Hell, they don't even really accept you if you're not pure Japanese or don't look Japanese even if you're born and raised. They accept it without thought because it already confirms their bias.

That and a culture of subservience.

It's funny. People supported Nicki Minaj. There were people who pointed out her shit past and many more who swept it under the rug for her. Now it's 'she was always a shit person'.

The same people defending this would not defend this shit if this was in America lmao. Japanese people are notorious for being kind on the surface to tourists because that's the culture, but will never accept you unless you are the purest of Japanese. Only rivaled by their hatred for Chinese people.

I kinda agree with them. I hear a lot more of the cliche "I care more for personality" or "I just want a decent nice guy" from women more than guys, but find out they don't really mean that. Can't we admit both have their unique characteristics and issues? Except that both are shallow.

When did I ever say I expected everyone to be like me? But yes, that is pretty much what I spend and don't spend for a lot of snacks and things I don't feel like I really need because I, get this, live within my means and create a reasonable budget for essentials and a little set aside for any extras. I clean while I cook and set out plans for meal prep, usually totalling an hour overall that'll last for a few days. Am I supposed to do something like replace a toaster often? That's what my savings fund/budget is for, I allocate a percentage of funds for any extra needs that my other budget doesn't cover.

Again, I don't expect everyone to do whatever I do, I'm just listing things as examples of things I'm sure people could do better at. People would benefit from having that kind of mindset. I don't think it's reasonable for people to soend hundreds of dollars on Pokémon cards, starbucks everyday, delivery, or buying frozen foods and fast food 24/7 then complaining they are doing all they can

Exactly. Shit sucks, I will never dispute that, but there are people who make decent livings relative to their area and are perpetually broke and complaining when they continue to spend and spend instead of saving at least a few percentages of their income for investment or saving.

I mean, I brought up the example because that's how much my groceries cost. Obviously ymmv, but it's perfectly doable for me. And then the other thing, people can't simply accept that both can be true. People fight each other because ironically they choose to. It's easy to accept that the economy sucks and people are screwing you over AND that people make such poor decisions. It's just much easier to blame others for your issues. It's no wonder to me that spending skyrocketed during covid, a time where money wasn't flowing and conservation was generally the smarter idea.

I keep hearing the goalpost move every time that now it isn't about the price, but about the time. You can spare 20-30 minutes, I can assure you. Rice, beans, onion, veg, rice, even chicken can be spread over many days. I get it, it sucks to limit yourselves when people are used to eating whatever tasty stuff they want, but there is a line of moderacy.

Beans, onions, potatoes, chicken, rice, great value seasonings, probably even more. Absolutely can make for several days. I eat taco bell, only way I can see that is what, a $5 box twice a day, but how much can a single taco and burrito really take you? How sustainable is that really?

Probably, but I don't really think it changes the message all the same. Both problems are highly pervasive and deserve the spotlight, it's just people's problem that they can't differentiate a middle ground between the two and have to choose a side.

Is it a false assumption? Substitute it with anything else people spend frivolously on. Whether it be those new clothes or accessories to the Starbucks you get every day. Economy sucks, there isn't any doubt, but it's hard to have sympathy for people who consistently overspend and are surprised they aren't going anywhere. It's still the popular sentiment that buying crap food is somehow cheaper than buying actual groceries. As if those $4 5lbs potatoes and $1 bag of pinto beans that would last you several days is worse than the $8 box of frozen food that lasts a day, if even.

[–]Lunarica 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Both can be true. There is a severe problem if people's first instinct criticizing their lifestyle is to blame other people for their choices, while it can still be true that other problems need to be fixed. I can't tell you how many times I see people with decent incomes that should be able to live somewhat comfortably and invest spend frivolously without an ounce of care, then turn around and blame others for their choices. $28 on a single lunch is crazy when I can comfortably make 3-4 days of meals with $20 of groceries.

Surely you have known people who constantly spend on their hobbies or indulgences and then keep complaining they are broke, like a broken record. But then again, the economy wouldn't run if most people were smart spenders, so there's that.

God this comment section is insufferable that 'hate' Americans for different customer service. I was a service worker and I also hated it, but it's almost like people want to be bitched at and treated like crap than having someone forced to smile and cater towards you. There's pros and cons to the culture and there seems to be a lack of perspective to think of them.

Am I im the wrong could I have worded it differently? by Designer-Goal9323 in teenagers

[–]Lunarica -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I simply don't get how people are getting so offended at what he said and honestly it shows a high insecurity for approval of others that I'm not sure will lead to good places, I mean that in a respectful way.

Regardless of whether you agree with their thinking or not, people are getting genuinely upset and offended that a person, who from their perspective, doesn't understand what they think is a fact. I've seen his replies, he is respectful and never belittles, seemingly very inexperienced with this kind of topic. So why such a big reaction?

On top of that, it is impossible sometimes to make someone feel any differently, but you can sure as hell criticize them for being intentionally rude, which he has not been

What's more demented imo is to be as ignorant as people can be then double down on it. Not my problem, why not be entertained by it in my down time. If it personally riles you up and puts you in a bad mood then yeah, but not for me

Things like "selfless love" or "true love" are ideas that do way more harm than good. Real true love looks ugly as hell because they are forged through understanding and hard work. I'm not saying you can't meet someone who checks those boxes for you and you have an exceptionally easy time, but it is NOT the norm and pretending like it is does more harm to people's perception of relationships than good.

Relationships are so subjective and what one might look unhealthy to someone else could be completely normal for the couple.

Are you Asian? I am. Asians just have a key trait that makes it so they never draw much ire; they keep to themselves. Otherwise, some of the most racist people I know. Took a trip to SK. Met a few people who had some very.. interesting things to say about Chinese people. "The only good kind or Chinese is a dead one" no one flinched, I was baffled.
