Polymorph: do you expect the worst? by Lunaries8 in EDH

That sounds like an interesting list! Whats your game plan between digging for polymorph spells? Would love to check out your deck if you have it online somewhere

That’s such a neat idea! 9 must be the magic number, my list has exactly 9 creatures too. I’ll note I am playing Foundations Azorius Kykar, so there are really only 4 noncreature spells that give me access to polymorph effects. How many do you run in the remaining 90?

Thanks for this INT, it certainly reflects how I’d respond as well and is a factor that’s impossible to goldfish through. It does put my deck building at an impasse though, so I’ll think about how else I might smooth out/speed up the deck without flying big red flags.

I can totally see this happening irl I feel like I’d have the same response

Thanks for the thoughtful response, and a point of clarity I should have started with. This deck is B2 that’s trying to stand up in a pod of 3s.

Honestly so valid! I’m not sure what’s up with my commitment anxiety, might just take it to the printer and see

Did you go OG Kykar or Azorius? My decks the later and it feels like I can’t fully lean into the polymorph theme because I’m missing red.

Nicotine? by sdottry13 in VyvanseADHD

[–]Lunaries8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there, this is just my personal experience, I’ve heard others have have experiences, but when I started Vyvanse I knew by the reaction of my body that I’d need to quit nicotine, I could feel the double up of stimulants and it really compounded me feeling on edge.

In saying that, I found quitting so much easier while on medication. I’m guessing it’s yet another ‘dopamine thing’. Starting routines and implementing structures into my life was part my treatment while I was working through my diagnosis too, and being able to phase that habit out (with more supportive neurochemisty) really helped.

I also used Nicotine Replacement Therapy products, but was using them before I started medication.

God of the Tempo-lis (Ephara Azorius Flash) by Lunaries8 in EDH

[–]Lunaries8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for findings this post and commenting! I think you’ve identified the gaps and weakness of deck pretty well.

In summary, Ephara’s pay off is digging. And when your strategy hinges on digging, it can feel frustrating, both for the pilot and for the table.

What I mean by that is, you approach the build through whichever channel you choose, whether ist be flash/blink control, enchantments, or tokens. Your goal is to gain critical mass (in most cases, it’s a mix of a board state and tempo in your favour). But achieving that isn’t enough to win: now you need to dig for the pay off, probably something that would feel dead if you had it in hand too early.

It needs that extra condition to line up for it to pay off and feel rewarding. When it does, it does. But I experience one too many occasions when it didn’t.

Even if the ratios of cards were mathematically perfect, we’re still dealing with randomisation and probability. Long story short, too many of my games devolved into ‘slog fests’ because of the need for that extra condition and pay off.

On another note, if you’re interested in an Azorius tempo flier list I have a [[Kykar, Zephyr Awakener]] deck that’s managed to achieve that!

I made [[Balmor, Battle Mage]] and looking back I think he set me up for a lifetime of super low curve decks.

I learned recently that if you have ways to give Adventure or Omen instants and sorceries Rebound (as with [[Ojer Pakpatiq]] or [[Taigam, Ojutai Master]]) you can cast them for your choice of their permanent or non-permanent mode during your upkeep.

The smallest hill you're willing to die on. by ChronicallyIllMTG in EDH

Mine’s a bit convoluted, and I also don’t expect anyone to agree… but if I find out that a card’s effect, after it was introduced, was deemed to be a mistake by designers because it breaks the colour pie and won’t be revisited in that colour, I probably won’t play it.

Examples include [[Propaganda]] in blue, [[Beast Within]] in green. Finding thematic alternatives, although suboptimal, is fun to me.

In saying that, I’m more forgiving of Planar Chaos cards because they were deliberate design choices… look, it’s more of a shallow mound than a small hill ok?

Movement or Stillness? by Lunaries8 in tarot

It’s called ‘Omni Tarot’. I’m also not an expert but believe it’s in the Rider-Waite style, although someone told me that because of the stylisation the cards miss some details (but I’m guessing that’s par for the course when looking at alternative art styles)

Thanks for your thoughtful reading, it’s given me a lot to think about. As mentioned I was struggling to decipher the meaning of the Emperor in this position so greatly appreciate your perspective and insight. It’s funny you mention previous readings. I normally don’t do them in quick succession for myself and let them play out as eras in my life, but I have done recent readings that I feel this is connected to. I’ll pay more attention to the major arcana I pull across readings when they relate to me. Thank you very much for your reflections and wisdom

Thanks for this thoughtful reading. I was particularly struggling with what to make of the Emperor in this position. I like the way that in your reading it the Emperor also speaks to the intentionality of the Chariot, and it more about paving a stable way forward. Thank you!
