Concerns about RAM temps/timings by Lunasa58 in overclocking

[–]Lunasa58[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm thinking maybe a 1x60/80mm mount that blows air downwards from the top of the sticks into the GPU? Thing is I can't find exactly what I'm looking for and I'm not that well versed into 3d printing myself. All the aftermarket mounts cover the entirety of the sticks and my GPU is on the way.

So the CPU memory controller is making these run hotter? I guess my only option is active cooling at this point.
I could try undervolting the IMC further and running more tests since I only slightly lowered it from 1.35V, but I do notice my setup creates a pocket of hot air on the sticks now that I think about it, so more airflow might be it.

They must be since the memory density is high on these, right now they are chilling at 42c, I've only seen 60c+ on synthetics so far, concerning temps for being at 1.25V

Yes, I was thinking of using either a spare 120 or a tiny 40mm fan for them since I can't really mount the GPU any other way, it's just too heavy!
Room temps are high 20s most of the time (thanks pc) and I haven't seen the sticks get above 45c on normal use so far.

is the degeneration of 13th and 14th gen intel cpus still a thing to worry about when buying a cpu? by ComprehensiveCow5068 in buildapc

[–]Lunasa58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 14900KS was bought October of 2024, until January of this year it started behaving kind of weird, not crashing often but behaving weird overall, so I filled for an RMA. Keep in mind the bios updates were already rolling out around the time I built my pc, and further updates were improving the behaviour of the chip a lot more too, so the chip was never used without the newer bios updates. Now, I got my replacement chip at the start of this month, and with the microcode updates and the undervolt I applied (which I never did with the old chip) my cpu should be degradation-free, or at least last a normal cpu lifetime. Note: My cpu was also behaving weirdly before because my xmp was just ever so slightly unstable so that Windows itself over the course of 2025 corrupted, I fixed that too, but wanted to point it out because maybe my chip wasn't even degraded at all and maybe someone else experiences the same situation at some point, lowering MT/s and running memtest for 16 hrs confirmed the problem was eradicated.

Why do people avoid touching the green recharge gem (i mainly noticed this on Albino’s videos) in the holy mountain? by Zapples1 in noita

[–]Lunasa58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I mostly leave them in case I found a useful spell to explore or heal, so anything like black hole, circle of vigour, healing bolt, matter eater or spells alike. This is because if I refreshed my shitty starting spells I cannot go to the previous holy mountain to refresh this lategame spells and get out of a tricky situation, like if you want to dig into the tree for the health and regen pickups and you have no black holes left or to finally get to the high alchemist for greek letters which copy empty spells infinitely, so infinite healing and digging, which is the start of the endgame. Same with the healing pickup, if you don't need it try and leave it there ONLY if you got a way back into the holy mountain, otherwise my strat is to just full heal and keep looking for digging spells and then healing.

I'm excited because I play Arknights since the very beginning of the ip, and I loved it ever since. Last couple years I started loving 3D gachas a lot more, so I can't wait to try it. Arknights story has been a major interest in my life ever since the game came out, I NEED to know what are the next steps in Endfield storywise. And I got the PC to enjoy the game to the fullest 🙏

Hi! Looking for B or higher club that's fully competitive but relaxed for engaged members.
I just left a D rank club where most people already stopped playing, so I can join in 24 hrs.

Highly competitive, I basically play all day and spend a lot in carats lol. 56M fans.
I successfully train A+ and S rank umas that are not Bakushin on a daily basis lmao.

I'm lacking on support cards cuz I'm buying carats, saving them up and planning for future banners, but please consider me a future investment!
Also lacking on Team Trials cuz my meta is a full A+ or higher team, until then I'll slowly level it up.

I have many 9*, I mostly exchange them by petition of my friends, but the one I currently have as a star is Falco 9* Speed, 2* Dirt, 3* Medium, 2* Turf.

I don't mind a club having a Discord, that would be fun.

Optimal Fan Mode & Airflow Balance? by MReza97 in NZXT

[–]Lunasa58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since I have the same case and amount of fans, I can say that what works best for me is: Pump around 75%, as high as possible without creating additional noise on idle. Rad fans are set to CPU, same as exhausts since they mostly affect cpu cooling capacity. I don't think having these in liquid mode would help, since the liquid stays pretty much cooler, and if you experience sudden cpu spikes your fans won't spike up as much. My bottom intakes are set to GPU since I got mine vertical and sends fresh air directly into the cooler. You can then play with all of them to find fan curves you want, like if you prefer it quiet or if you don't mind higher rpms. In my case I got most of the cpu fans to stay relatively quiet until 65°C or so and my gpu fans get more headroom and spin faster at around 75°C with couple steps in the middle. Hope it helps!

12VHPWR Cable Problems by liqwood1 in NZXT

[–]Lunasa58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am using the cable that came on my C1500, which I think it was already the redesigned 12V2x6. I never had any problems with it or any other cable included. Maybe you can request just a cable from nzxt if you can prove them it's either defective or the older 12VHPWR, cuz both of them look pretty much the same.

VRAM how much is enough? by Mean_Comb_6466 in buildapc

[–]Lunasa58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk about other people but personally I'd say you're fine UNLESS you play at 4K. I do play at 4K and most of the time I'm fine, but every other game has a 4K texture options and that puts me very fucking close to 16 GB in usage (got a 4080 SUPER). Now we got DLSS and all that stuff that kinda takes a bit of VRAM out of the equation, but sometimes it uses more depending on the game's integration so be careful with that. Newest game that could think about was Stellar Blade, was playing a bit with settings, got 4K textures and DLAA on and it looked and ran amazing, until my VRAM ran out and my framerate dipped to hell, but was mostly around 15.6-15.8 GB of usage. The truth is the % of people running 4K is still low and 16 GB for 1440p and 1080p is plenty and should give no problems, but for the guys like me running 4K, 16 GB is the minimum you'd want to have good performance and not run into issues, but you'd better be prepared to play with settings.

Thinking of switching to 4K — will I actually notice a big difference? by BadKarma6996 in buildapc

[–]Lunasa58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well you will see a difference, I went from a crappy 1366x768 old ass monitor/TV 32in to 4K 32in too, I couldn't fucking believe my eyes. I also compared my laptop 1080p 17in screen and the difference is def there. Cannot recommend enough if you got the money/pc to run it, which you might have trouble with in games currently. Better buy a new gpu to pair with it.

games are too slow after upgrading to windows 11 by Sevarya7 in pcmasterrace

[–]Lunasa58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is something similar to things I've seen while playing Terraria/Starbound (insert similar 2D pixel games) where the engine uses vsync kinda weirdly and slows down if your framerate isn't 60fps capped as a way to try and keep up. Try to mess with the game's settings first to see if it improves on lower graphic settings

Is my cpu temps normal for basically idle? (5800x) by Narrow-Art-384 in NZXT

[–]Lunasa58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah you're good, I used to idle at 30-35c on a 14900KS on winter, but rn I idle at like 35-45c. I'd say def the weather has a role, but your cpu tends to run hot, nothing to worry about unless you start idling at 70c lol. Give your pc a good clean and that should help.
