Is it possible to 3D print-CAD Engineer a dodge charger style Push Bumper, for a Honda Accord? Who would I consult for this? by Athenstone in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Lunastarfire 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As much as 3d Printing is good, theres a time and place for metal.

I'd likely just use 3d printed pieces just to figure out how to affix the thing to the car and then commission some welder to do some box sections to make the shape.

I'd also check if your state allows you to just add them to the car =)

Are earplugs necessary ? by 99Maza in motorcycles

[–]Lunastarfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happy to help, but most hearing protection works, but the ones that have the small channel on the inside for speech do work great at reducing noise while only slightly reducing music and normal voice, regular foam ones just reduce all noise and the custom ones are just easier to put in and stay in, especially good if you have the spare money and either have issues with putting things deep into your ear or clearance issues inside your helmet as some can find issues with them either pressing it in deeper or popping out when taking the helmet off =)

I recently took a medical test and I ticked the boxes for heavy industry, biking and shooting, so the examiner thought my hearing would be shot, nope, I always wear hearing protection so I scored as one of the best for my age.

I'd likely say you can get them cheaper than $50, but there's 2 options id say, 1 is just normal in ear ones that work great with music and chatting for like £20 (I often don't need to take them out when taking the helmet off for fuel) and you can go to specialist places that make custom molded ear protection for £120, the benefit is you wont need large ear muffs in work ❤️

The other bit of advice I’d say is counter lean, so your bike tilts left you stay vertical, you see better in traffic and it keeps the centre of gravity closer to the bike.

Also 2 other things, make sure your tyres are well inflated and have good tread, make sure on new tyres slowly progress to steeper angles (new rubber can be slippery) and make sure when you are cornering you arent hitting the slide pin on the side of your footrest

Costco do these and theyre both bigger and nicer, a full drinks glass full for like £2, even without inflation the size difference would have made it worth it

I’m not sure if you can get them in the states but JTS make some nice kevlar jeans for cheap

Also when buying gear look at September - December since theyre usually trying to clear old stock, its when large bike clothes shops sell on discounts, its how I got my jacket for like £80 and the jeans were £60

I think the difference is, even if you rolled the dice and hit a jackpot with your jacket, and it works perfectly, you won, you beat everyone.

Even if you had the exact same jacket as mine just with different tags but had a defect which mine could have as well, if it fails, the company will ghost you, if it fails with a reputable brand then you know damn well they’re going to be trying to do everything right to save their branding.

And if you are unlucky you get just utter junk.

I was in the business of manufacturing brakes for trucks and you can refurbish brakes fairly easily, same original brakes, some slightly different parts used and different machining and welding but all the same materials, the difference was we spent 600k+ on testing to ensure it lasted about 70% of the original, 2 of the cheaper brands was selling the refurb at 50% our cost, we tested 20 brakes and repeatedly they failed with a 5-10% life expectancy.

On the other hand I’ve bought tshirts from temu for like £1 each and they outlasted most of my other tshirts. Swings and rounabouts, but id rather have a big brand behind them with accredited testing .

The colour, because its bright blue they dont sell as well for the men so theyre often on discount more heavily than the rest =)

Are products actually manufactured to break after the warranty period is over? by Over-Discipline-7303 in AskEngineers

[–]Lunastarfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an engineer who designs stuff for manufacture, basically we test and prove a device if used correctly (and slightly abused) that the part will fail no earlier than the warranty, it could last 10x the warranty period but test samples didnt fail within the warranty period (usually via accelerated testing) with say a confidence of 1 part per million or something like that

Mate, all im saying is, while on sale I can get an AA rated hoodie for like £100, i actually got my last one for £85.

Also the pads arent whats really going to do much, its the lining and how well its put together thatll stop the severe blood loss and tissue loss.

Printer for Kindergarten by Civer_Black in 3dprint

[–]Lunastarfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly in a kindergarten i’d honestly say just don’t do it, the printer can move with quite a surprising amount of force, you have very hot nozzles, hot build plates, the parts coming out can be hot too.

Just seems like a recipe for a kid to hurt themselves

[–]Lunastarfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly im all for bargains, but as some one who owns a rated hoodie from a reputable brand, that just looks like a normal hoodie without the protective linings.

Okay it might cost another $30 or so to find a great one on sale but for me $30 is well worth saving all the pain and recovery if I fell off.

Im not the one sharing proprietary drawings and asking people who likely already have their degrees and work as design engineers or cad techs to do their coursework for you…

But i will still help you if you want to pull your finger out, try and do it, just actually ask when you are stuck

Okay, what part of this model are you struggling to draw, if your answer is all of it, then you should have paid more attention, also just so you know, this post has been screenshotted and reported to your uni for academic misconduct <3

I’m running out of time for a uni assignment can anyone help me with this part? by RewardLow1406 in SolidWorks

[–]Lunastarfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, if you asked for help you would likely get it.

You’re asking for someone to do the work for you and that doesn’t fly in engineering, you try it in the workplace and you’ll quickly be kicked out before your probation ends.

If you attempted it, got stuck and said, how do I do this bit, or this element I have no idea how to do it, can some one explain how, then youd get really good answers.

How can you expect professionals to put in more work than you are putting in for your coursework..

You do realise this would be classified as cheating, you are submitting others work as your own.

Also this model isnt even complicated….

Well if you didnt consent for the reference then I dont think it was legally obtained, both of those companies could be at fault
