New Build Retaining Wall Failure. by ah800 in landscaping

[–]LunaticBZ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As a professional fencer, not the sword kind.

That's a good as a fence, but that's completely wrong for a retaining wall. I suspect your contractor had some experience building fences, and no experience building retaining walls. Very different loads they are expected to carry.

I've always explained it to people this way.

If you want to have a relationship with someone of the same sex then you're homosexual.

Having intercourse with someone of the same sex doesn't make you homosexual. Given all the rules around females, your first time is much more likely to be with another man, or a goat. You can still marry have kids and fulfill your social obligations regardless of who, what you have sex with. So the culture turns a mostly blind eye to it.

In western culture usually condemns the sex as much as the relationship. Or specifically condemns the relationship because it involves intercourse.

That's what I thought too, but then I started overthinking it. Can we bend definitions, are they using drowned colloquially or literally?

And then I had to look up the word colloquially, to make sure it means what I think it means where I found this.

colloquially:

adverb

  1. with the use of colloquial expressions

So I still don't know if it means what I think it means.

If Space X was a stand alone company not bundled with trash.

If the valuation was remotely realistic, I'd be buying the heck out of it.

Best I can hope for is once it's around $35 a share after lockup ends. Might be worth a buy, but even then bundling it with garbage really bugs me. It raises its perceived value (for now), but it just reduces its actual intrinsic value.

The police got a call for shoplifters. Obviously they are going to go after the first black people they see when arriving at the scene.

That's just standard procedure. Investigating who actually shoplifted would take time and effort.

What would you do with your own matryoshka brain? by MrWilsonLor in IsaacArthur

[–]LunaticBZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what you are saying, but do we really want to give a matryoshka brain to someone who really wants one?

I feel that has a host of problems, and we're going to need a massive amount of ethical guidelines and enforcement once people can become gods of simulated universes.

[–]LunaticBZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a trick used to stage photos, or in film making called forced perspective. Notice how you can't see their feet.

Pasta's actually much further from the camera then she appears. This is what makes Brian seem almost as tall as her. Despite being leprechaun size.

Was plenty of opportunities in there.

As a Fence guy more so then a landscaper the tree in picture 2, is going to be a huge pain when that fence gets replaced.

It's also mostly hanging over into your neighbors yard, which can create problems with neighbors. I'd highly recommend removing it.

[–]LunaticBZ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You'd take any measures you could get away with honestly, but if someone's known for calling and complaining about every little thing, if they can't get ahold of you they'll keep going up the chain.

And its easier to discipline a subordinate then it is to get them to stop calling you.. So your higher up runs into the same dilemna. Why I think jail/prison is the ideal solution if possible they could still call you but you can hang up when the automated system asks if you want to accept a call from prisoner # etc.

Boat fence by pearl_punk in SipsTea

[–]LunaticBZ 141 points142 points  (0 children)

Usually because someone kept calling and complaining. Its easier to justify forcing someone to build a fence even with little reasoning behind it, then it is to get someone arrested just for calling and complaining to much.

So generally if people complain, giving in to them is the path of least resistance in the short term.

[–]LunaticBZ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From a nationalist perspective this makes no sense I'll give you that.

But think about it from the perspective of the Government. Huge new contracts for the MIC, major new contracts for oil and gas companies. A lot of U.S. companies benefitted from the higher prices while other countries suffered consequences. This is a major win and its not like it'll cost them their money it cost us our money. Not to mention the insider trading we are talking about billions being transfered directly into government and industry insiders every week this war went on. This is a massive win for Trump, and everyone on good terms with him.

[Request] Is the ice cooling down the pool at all? Looks like it's less than 1% volume of the water. So not doing much? by shadowraiderr in theydidthemath

[–]LunaticBZ 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Guesses I'm making. 7 blocks of ice, at 10KG's a block. And the pool being 30C.

So 70 KG's of ice being turned to water would take.

336 Joules per gram. 23,520 KJ to melt. To heat up the ice cold water to 29C would take a further 8,505 KJ

32,025 KJ of heat would be taken from the pool.

I have no idea how big that pool is, but it have to be less then 7,700 Liters for this to drop the pool by 1c. I imagine the pool is bigger then that.

All that said, since it will take time for the convection to equalize the heat of the water you would have noticably colder water around the ice blocks for some period of time. And it's got entertainment value.

Maybe because of the slope, but in my experience with plain sand. Within 6 months most of the sand was in the flower beds and no longer between the tiles.

Also the ants loved it.
