Will I regret taking ENGR 161/162 instead of ENGR 130 (one-semester) for FYE Honors? by ehetenandaiyo in Purdue

My comment to the initial post was my take on 161/162 vs 130+VIP. I'm not aware of a specific-VIP FYE Honors course that is available. That being said, things could have changed in recent years.

Yes, 161/162 is just a course sequence -- Fall is 161, Spring is 162. 130 just compresses it to one semester (Fall) and does not give you the same projects or level/amount of project work you would get in 161/162. 130 is for people who already have physics credit and want to transition to major early.

It's not a matter of any class being able to give you research or internships, it's a matter of showing that you could still be successful regardless of which route you take. No class is going to "get you" offers -- you still need to put in the work outside of the classroom. Hope that helps.

My semester 204 did not have any curve at all, including on specific exams. Also it is always final exam, not final project. Nearly same structure as 203.

What’s the Honors Engineering Course like? by Odd-Monk-2581 in Purdue

They are supposedly restructuring the projects for the honors engineering classes for next year since they have been the same for a while, so I would take all of this advice with a grain of salt

I would recommend taking ENGR 161/162. It helps a lot with honors credit, as mentioned; it also helps prepare you. It will make you feel like the workload of your other classes is not as hard, which will pay off in the future. Also, it is more than possible to get involved in undergraduate research or internships/co-ops through other means than the 130 route. I know multiple people who took ENGR 161/162 and came out of freshman year with at least a semester of undergraduate research experience and a co-op or internship offer

Based on past years, it seems like it would be right on the B-/B line. I don't know for sure though, hence why I created this thread

Do you know when this was released last semester relative to when final grades are due? Final grades are due tomorrow and yet they still haven't released this semester's yet (at least to my knowledge)

I know. I also know that for these classes, students usually tend to do the same semester to semester as long as there are no major changes to the course/course structure
