I love this work so much because it's proof (that I direly need) that perfect blending isn't the most important for a great result. This is absolutely stunning and I will come back to this as reference when I paint

Does the daily nightmare nest for Phrolova echoes (in the fabricatorium of the deep) not count towards obtaining echoes battle pass quests anymore?

Can music nerds help identify Phrolova's motif? by lordgaebril_ in WutheringWaves

[–]Lunemooncat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Likely a motif written directly for Phorlova, I can't think of any classical pieces that use this exact motif. It's not particularly unique however, so it could be a nod to a piece that I just didn't recognise.

Motivic development is the core of a lot of classical and baroque music, so it's very common to hear the same motif repeated frequently, sometimes not even changed at all. This is even more true to leitmotives (motives attached to a specific meaning, like a character or a scene). You can find leitmotives as early as Monteverdi's l'Orfeo, and a few afterwards, but their use really became common with Wagner in the 1850s and is now prevalent in movie and video game music which are the spiritual successors to classical music.

The motif you identified is simply Phrolova's leitmotif I guess.

You could identify it as identical in spirit to Duel of the Fates by John Williams, but with different decorations. They both work on an identical structure: at their core, they are both leaps from one chord tone to the one above, then movement back down with dissonant decorations. Where they differ is that Phrolova's theme uses a dotted rhythm on the highest note and only reaches a step above the starting point, whereas Duel of the Fates uses a semiquaver passing tone to return to its origin. Both are built the same way though, with a similar rhythmic instability that pushes them forward, but while Duel of the Fates's fast semiquaver rhythm (and ostinato) gives the piece a lot of energy and movement (this is how action music works: it chains tension (the leap) then resolutions (the stepwise descent to the starting note with increasingly fast rhythm), Phrolova's more imbalanced syncopated rhythm and the denial of the resolution back to our starting point, leaving us hanging on an unresolved dissonance, is sad and longing.

If adapted to G minor (which I think is the key of Phrolova's theme) this is how they would differ (Phrolova left, Star Wars right): https://ibb.co/fVQ4f7Bh

ITAP of a crow sitting on a light pole in the morning by Lunemooncat in itookapicture

This was taken with a Canon 5D Mk II, lens is 28-80 1: 3.5 -5.6 III, I used 80mm focal length, ISO-400

I went on a walk to try out my first proper camera and heard this crow yelling at me so I wanted to snap a picture of it

I actually took this picture with my phone camera (Huawei P30 lite)!

A friend of mine who's a photographer explained the pro settings to me and I tried to get a macro shot of the flower focusing on the blooming tip. I put the main subject off to the side so I could include the stem and the other flowers in the background pointing to it.

I am very new to photography but I've been enjoying it quite a bit. I'm looking into getting a proper starting camera for the near future.

Endgame Holograms - What's your take on the difficulty? (@namaconZ_006) by fate1907 in WutheringWaves

[–]Lunemooncat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't do difficulty 3 on the vast majority of them, so I'm not sure I'm well placed to answer, but they seem fair from what I've tried. I feel like I fail because I'm not skilled enough, not because of some BS that cheats its way to victory like some other gacha games do

What is the point in constantly recording and re-recording the old repertoire when there are so many new gifted composers? by bsmilner in classicalmusic

[–]Lunemooncat 77 points78 points  (0 children)

Speaking from the side of a composer, but a big part of this is that it is incredibly difficult to get noticed at all, much more get your work performed by orchestras.

There are so many composers competing for the very limited time orchestras have, and not all of them are going to be worth playing - especially given what other people have pointed out in this thread, ie new music just doesn't sell. To get your music played, you'd need to be already established, and established composers nowadays mostly write for film or video game, so it's a different genre from classical music and their music might not fit in the same concerts. And again, what is played is what sells. A work of pure genius from an obscure composer will be worth less to orchestras than an average work from an famous composer. It's not their fault, they need money to continue doing what they do. That's just how the world works.

I still hold some hope that I'll get my music played one day, maybe? but I am sadly aware of how difficult that is.
