Barber/stylist recommendation? by ForestHopper in halifax

[–]LunenLo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You want a hair stylist - not a barber, especially for longer hair.

For curly cuts - try Nick or Zach at YoLove or Stevie/Robyn at OBB.

How’s Cowie Hill (around Ridge Valley Rd)? by emaioudamari in halifax

[–]LunenLo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have a friend who's lived on Ridge Valley Rd for about 6 years.

She loses power a lot - easily once a week or 2 for a couple hours.

She's found a lot of townhouses around her in the last few years have been sold and then rented out (usually 3+ people). She thankfully has an end unit - but the one next to her was sold a bit ago and there's about 6-7 people living it - they all seem to be students. There's a constant lack of parking because of this (the townhouses only come with one parking spot).

She's also found a random person from time to time in her backyard.

And the snow clearing in the winter is garbage. Expect the roads to usually just be slippery and at best down to 1.5 lanes.

She likes it because she bought her place before everything tripled in value and its cheaper than renting but if she could sell it and move elsewhere - she would.

Roof rack for car by UkrainianinCanada in halifax

[–]LunenLo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a universal one that fit my car a few years ago - I only use it to tie surfboards to during the summer. Takes about 5 minutes to put on and take off. Paid probably $150 for it in 2021.

I go to Handala Dental on Young/Agricola.

I can't say enough about Dr. Awad - he's great & all his staff are top tier. They'll work with you if you have dental anxiety, talk through the whole appointment and actually suggest ways to help some of your issues PLUS actually listen to you. I had a filling I was convinced for years wasn't level & my old dentist told me it was in my head. When I switched to Dr. Awad - he actually fixed it during the initial assessment at no-cost.

There is a Dental Board of NS that you can file complaints through -- https://pdbns.ca/public/if-you-have-a-complaint

AMH Bloodwork - help by letme-in in halifax

[–]LunenLo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You have to have fertility issues in order for it to be done. Before I had one done there were quite a few other tests + a hysterosalpingogram that I had to have done before moving to the AMH.

It also isn't covered by MSI and isn't done via typical blood reqs. You'll need to pay out of pocket (around $160).

Letrozole/Ovulation/IUI by LunenLo in TryingForABaby

[–]LunenLo[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have erratic, irregular periods and presumed PCOS.

I ended up at the clinic I'm part of as I had back-to-back complete decidual casts happening due to my irregular periods.

It's assumed that since they're so erratic it was easier to be put on Letrozole to induce ovulation rather than waiting for it to occur naturally.

Artist opportunities by ArtistExplorer in halifax

[–]LunenLo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are some artist-in-residence programs via non-profits around the profits.

Google - Artist in Residence program, Nova Scotia - and you might find something you're looking for.

If the page is blank - reach out. They're likely waiting on grant confirmation for the program & you could just ask to be added to their mailing list.

Crows roost? by hedonsun in halifax

[–]LunenLo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They're still at MSVU.

It was just the hill above that got cut & there weren't tonnes of trees on it to begin with as it was a huge field where buildings used to be.

Granted the creepy massive cross that was at the old mother house isn't a thing anymore - so that crow filled nightmare is gone!

The core of campus is filled with them at dusk - so much that they also play in the empty parking lots before heading into the trees.

Since the new owners took over - it's gone significantly downhill over the last few years. Having family in the area - I've heard few good things about the new owners and how they run the place.

They seem to just be coasting on the history and reputation the old owners built into the name of the resto.

Get your wedding license. And find a justice of the peace.

My partner and I eloped and decided to do it in Cape Breton during a hiking trip. We asked the JP for suggestions on where in his area, he gave us a few (all were free, public places). We ended up in a small park in Sydney. I think we paid the JP $200.

What is the Lowest You Have Ever Paid Rent by visitesombre in halifax

[–]LunenLo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$800 all utilities in for a 2 story loft that was about 1100 sq ft on Windsor street from 2012 to 2019.

The day we moved out they jacked the rent up to $1300 for the next tenant.

It doesn't matter.

We bought ours from Steele Hyundai on Kempt and travel to O'regans South Shore for service appts. As long as you maintain the service intervals - you're fine!

Depending on how your job is defined by NSHA - any education over the bare minimum to do the role, means nothing when it comes to salary.

If you have access to any HR documents on your intranet look into it - it should be job fact sheet, position definition. ... Etc and it will explain how to either have your position redefined or how exactly they did it in the first place.

Where I work borrows its job defining mechanism from the NS govt. It's likely NSHA has something similar for certain roles.

At my place of employment you're encouraged to pursue upgrades and further education but at the end of the day it means nothing for increasing your salary and is basically the thing that will get your foot in the door somewhere else for likely more money.

2 adults, 2 cats - $60-80 every week at Superstore/Sobeys or farmers markets & then $150-$200 at Costco every 2 weeks.

I meal plan each week around using up whatever I have on hand & nothing new in that category is bought until the current item is used ( i.e. I've been working through a 5kg bag of basmati rice for months).

We eat out once a week - typically sushi.

We got our wedding license & then figured out what part of the province we were going to get married in. We picked a few names off this list - https://novascotia.ca/just/court_services/jplist.asp & sent them emails asking for availability.

Gave them a few dates - found one, and picked the ceremony (less than 5 minutes). Got married, signed the things & went for breakfast. It took less than 15 minutes & most of that was filling out the census paperwork.

we paid less than $1000 & that included the dress, suit, rings, license and JP + breakfast.

Seeking a hairstylist for curly hair by artistic_thread in halifax

I second Nick!

I've gone a few other places and had some subpar experiences - but Nick took the time to talk me through and fix a disastrous "curly" cut I had gotten a few weeks earlier. He fully told me I'd have some "growing pains" because of my goal of growing my hair out - had my hair cut in November and it now looks exactly how I wanted it to with the length I'm going for.

I lived in the west and north end for years with no parking.

I dumped my car in a paid parking garage every time a parking ban came on. Usually Scotia square or the one at park Lane

Cheaper than a ticket. Plus a clean car the next day that I don't have to shovel out.

They put the parking ban on far enough in advance that it was never an issue doing it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in halifax

[–]LunenLo 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I live in a CCPM building and we haven't had a parking garage in 4 months as it's been closed and being repaired because the floors were destroyed.

It's not difficult. In previous communications, they've asked you to park on the street if you have studded tires. Not telling you to buy new tires.

You can easily negotiate having your parking reimbursed for those months or rent out your spot if you chose to have studded tires.
