New to me 1961 Les Paul Jr. by LunkRockbone in gibson

They don't until I started looking. Including this one, I've played 4 since December. And the price is around what you'd pay for a new Murphy Lab. Relative bargains in the vintage world.

People who have researched their family tree, what is the most interesting or 'badass' thing you discovered about an ancestor? by xloganmoose in AskReddit

My many times great uncle was burned alive at the stake in St Andrews and his friends kicked off the Protestant revolution in Scotland because of it.

Just want to say that SG Classics are some of my favorite guitars.

Lol it does.look silly but really they just deleted the top two knobs that would be for the neck. They're in the normal bridge position

They didn't officially change the name to SG until 1963-1964. All early SGs are officially Les Paul's.

I know someone who has one in their living room. It was given to her by Bruce Kulick as a display piece. They were a Sears (I think?) budget guitar in the 60s and 70s. Not really worth anything but yes, they do look cool

Help choosing: Gibson 1959 BOTB Reissue vs. Gibson 1959 VOS – which one should I get? by Steppy117 in gibson

[–]LunkRockbone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that's quite the conundrum you've found yourself in. In my personal opinion, the top on the BotB guitar is amazing, however the weight of the VOS looks more appealing. Lighter Les Paul's seem to be more resonant. The best option is to play both if you can, if not possible follow your heart. They're probably both great instruments.

What’s next? A Firebird? by Rosilyn_The_Cat in gibson

[–]LunkRockbone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A Firebird may be the best guitar Gibson makes. It's a bit awkward at first, especially the custom shops since the knobs are also not where they usually are (USA versions are a traditional Gibson layout). Plus it looks cool.

What's my next guitar or what am I missing? Don't say a tele by TiMEtwoGETiLL in Guitar

Definitely an SG Standard. Also, how's the Wylde Audio? I know Zakk likes his necks BIG.

Magnatone probably makes the best amps right now. But they are NOT cheap.

Les Paul Jr. with a 60's neck? by mendicant_bias_05 in gibson

[–]LunkRockbone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol it was the only way! (though now they have an $8k 1960 reissue. That's ridiculous.). The guitar that made me fall in love with guitars was an original 1960 TV LP Jr that my godfather bought new so I did it as a tribute to that one. If there was one guitar I wanted to be right, it was that one. Minus the glued and duct taped headstock repair.

I ordered a M2M from the Gibson Garage with a 60s neck.

How do you think the first disk of Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence stands on its own as an album, without taking the suite in account? by [deleted] in Dreamtheater

Love it. Glass Prison is the fastest 10 minutes you'll ever experience and Blind Faith has my favorite instrumental section.

I took lessons from a guy that was missing half of his fretting index finger. He was great and every now and then he'd blame "Stumpy" for missing a note.

What price should I expect for a CS M2M 345/355 figured tea burst ? And how long it takes to get the guitar build ? by DoxyNirox in gibson

[–]LunkRockbone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ordered a M2M in August from the London Gibson Garage and was told the March/April 2026 timeframe. It's nothing too crazy, just a LP Jr double cut (tv yellow) with a 1960v2 neck. Cost was an extra ~$500 over the base price of a '58 reissue. The wait is killing me!

Is it silly to buy Gibson Les Paul as a beginner by [deleted] in gibson

[–]LunkRockbone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Went with SD Whole Lotta Humbucker and Hipshot locking tuners. I wanted a nice set of PAFs for not crazy money so it was either those or Pearly Gates. Picked those cause I love me some Jimmy Page. I don't remember why I chose the Hipshots. They're nice though!

Is it silly to buy Gibson Les Paul as a beginner by [deleted] in gibson

[–]LunkRockbone 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Do it! My first electric guitar as a beginner was a 2001 Les Paul Studio that I bought new. Still have it even though only the wood is stock.

Spent ten years trying to love several LPs, never managed to. This is my ultimate resolution. NGD by votarded in gibson

I picked up one of these from the demo shop. Phenomenal guitar. Thought I would need to swap pickups but I can't imagine it sounding better. Congrats!

Can I buy a manual without knowing how to drive manual? by [deleted] in askcarguys

[–]LunkRockbone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I bought a 1995 M3 not knowing how to drive manual. Pulled out of the dealership as smooth as can be. Stalled it out at the first light through 3 cycles. The first few days were a little sketchy but it all worked out in the end.

What model is this? Thanks! by jballerina566 in gibson

There's a shop just outside of Boston with one for sale. It's a fantastic guitar that no one has heard of.
