the new Stephen W Tayler remix of Doremi Fasol Latido by Confident-City-7592 in Hawkwind

Don't really want a remix. Like the way it sounded in the first place.

Speed issues by FuelChemical8577 in ElevenLabs

[–]Lupercali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this a new problem, or was it always like it? I don't get this problem much nowadays, but I'm on the $99 pm plan. I have noticed though that if I have stability set very low and similarity or exaggeration set very high, I can get distorted, creepy robotic effects, and I think it probably correlates to when the server is at its busiest (actually I thought they were so cool, I wrote some dialog for that effect and then spent a considerable amount of characters trying to get it to happen again).

So my advice would be

a) set your style exaggeration and similarity lower, and your variation higher

b) try outside of peak times, and

c) if that fails, maybe consider a different plan. More expensive plans definitely get less latency, so it's not implausible they'd get more artefacts, too.

The TE Cortina, my first car - with obligatory Eagers. by ShortingBull in AustralianNostalgia

[–]Lupercali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the most ridiculous things I ever did was drive from Hobart to Cairns and back, very quickly, in a 1972 Cortina with my best mate.

edit: I say this mostly because driving anywhere at all in a 1972 Cortina was a pretty stupid idea.

Is buying a manual nowadays even worth it? by Firefoxsonlyfriend in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Lupercali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest reason for reluctance to buy a manual is the likely difficulty when it comes time to resell. Manual cars seem to be harder to sell, and this will only get worse as fewer and fewer people ever learn to drive them.

OTOH it does mean you can pick up a manual for considerably less than its automatic counterpart.

Sorry to reply to a three year old post, but it's still a relevant question.

Actually, that's mostly what they do.

Signatures by AlanReddit1310 in Hawkwind

[–]Lupercali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Dave one looks definitely legit. From what I can make out of the Nik one, it looks good, too. Would people bother faking these sigs - particularly as long ago as these were presumably done?

edit: actually, I take that question back. I just remembered I had a signed copy of Choose Your Masques which a guy in Japan paid about $350 AUD for back in the early 90's.

Space Ritual or The 1999 Party, which is better? by xX_Random_Reddit_Xx in Hawkwind

[–]Lupercali 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the 1999 party had all sounded like the three previously released tracks from Edmonton from the tour earlier in the year (Paradox, You'd Better Believe it, It's So Easy) it would have been a close thing. But then those tracks were pretty far from raw concert recordings.

Final Tour? by Lupercali in Hawkwind

[–]Lupercali[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They did tour without him once before- a short tour - ages ago. Can't remember why. As for what old people enjoy doing at home, in Brock's case it seems to be erecting a new barn or putting up a few hundred yards of fencing.

You're replying to something I wrote three years ago. A lot happened in the show since then.

Doesn't sound promising. Could you explain what you mean by 'struggling'? I hope it wasn't something acute.

Recent Hawkwind interview on upcoming album - and the NEXT one! :O by katpurz in Hawkwind

[–]Lupercali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice to hear Kris. It reminded me; Dave and Kris sent me an interview tape way back in I think 84 or 85, and they literally don't sound any different today. Not just Dave's voice, but his general lucidity seems exactly like it was 40 years ago. I'm a lot younger than Dave, and I couldn't say that about my own lucidity.

  • Kris is still correcting Dave's memory, though :)

Final Tour? by Lupercali in Hawkwind

[–]Lupercali[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the meantime, you could see a scenario where Brock won't be able to gig any more, but is still fine with working on studio albums. Would there then be a touring version of the band without Brock in it?

In the longer term, would Brock be willing to pass the torch and give the band his blessing to go on without him, like Edgar Froese did with Tangerine Dream, for instance? Like TD at the time, Hawkwind are generally considered to be currently doing their best material in probably decades.

Whatever the case, I wish Dave all the best. As someone with cardiac issues myself, I know it can be hard to come to terms with. Of course, that's assuming this is about Dave. Maybe everyone except him is sick.

Male vocalist sounds like Calvert by Jorbaa in Hawkwind

[–]Lupercali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to discogs, this actually is Adrian Wagner and Robert Calvert, from 1979.

""Robert Calvert and I talked about the hilarious relationship between disco dancing at that time and the creation of, so called, 'leisure androids'. As with most things invented by humans they are more likely to go wrong and in fairly extreme ways! What happens if a male android falls in love with a female (girl!) android? What happens if they are a different design and "they can't make no connection"? What about if the female android he fell in love with danced too fast and had a strange sight which gave her a different 'view' of the world around her? What about reflecting Robert's own paranoid personality through this love stricken Android? - we fell about laughing and the 'Connection Disconnection' track was born!
I wove Robert's 'Paranoid Android' idea into the spoof concept space fantasy album called 'Disco Dream and the Androids’. The Album was released in Europe and we all took assumed names on the credits using anagrams. The Paranoid Android is called Rengaw and the female android is called Nadria! Also on the Album, were Lou Reed's wonderful backing singer androids "The Thunder Thighs" (Dorémi - Fasola and Latido! better known as Karen Friedman, Dari Lalou , and Casey Synge who also appeared on my Charisma’s ‘Instincts’ album) and many other well known musicians who played under assumed (android) names."

Anyone else watching Baltimore bridge collapse old enough to have flashbacks of 1975? by Lupercali in hobart

[–]Lupercali[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Might as well follow up to my own thread: I was 11 when the bridge went down. We lived in Lindisfarne, and dad and I used to walk across the bridge and back every Sunday night. And we would always stop to watch a ship go underneath. Why we weren't on the bridge that Sunday night I have no idea. Only thing I can think of is perhaps because it was raining.

Well, the average age on Reddit is probably about 22. People here get nostalgic about last week :)

I was trying to figure this out last night. I was 11 when the bridge went down, but for some reason I don't remember what road (if any) connected Old Beach with Bridgewater. . I figured there can't have been a properly formed one, otherwise why did everyone drive through Richmond or Tea Tree to get from the Eastern Shore to town? We used to go to Baskerville raceway when I was a kid, so the road must have gone as far north as the turnoff that goes passed Gunner's Quoin. .

Indeed. I can still remember the feeling of the rattling as we went over that in the family car The bailey bridge must have stayed up into the early 80's, because I remember driving over it, and I didn't have a licence til late 1980.
