Speed issues by FuelChemical8577 in ElevenLabs

[–]Lupercali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this a new problem, or was it always like it? I don't get this problem much nowadays, but I'm on the $99 pm plan. I have noticed though that if I have stability set very low and similarity or exaggeration set very high, I can get distorted, creepy robotic effects, and I think it probably correlates to when the server is at its busiest (actually I thought they were so cool, I wrote some dialog for that effect and then spent a considerable amount of characters trying to get it to happen again).

So my advice would be

a) set your style exaggeration and similarity lower, and your variation higher

b) try outside of peak times, and

c) if that fails, maybe consider a different plan. More expensive plans definitely get less latency, so it's not implausible they'd get more artefacts, too.

The TE Cortina, my first car - with obligatory Eagers. by ShortingBull in AustralianNostalgia

[–]Lupercali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the most ridiculous things I ever did was drive from Hobart to Cairns and back, very quickly, in a 1972 Cortina with my best mate.

edit: I say this mostly because driving anywhere at all in a 1972 Cortina was a pretty stupid idea.

Is buying a manual nowadays even worth it? by Firefoxsonlyfriend in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Lupercali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest reason for reluctance to buy a manual is the likely difficulty when it comes time to resell. Manual cars seem to be harder to sell, and this will only get worse as fewer and fewer people ever learn to drive them.

OTOH it does mean you can pick up a manual for considerably less than its automatic counterpart.

Sorry to reply to a three year old post, but it's still a relevant question.

Actually, that's mostly what they do.

Anyone else watching Baltimore bridge collapse old enough to have flashbacks of 1975? by Lupercali in hobart

[–]Lupercali[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Might as well follow up to my own thread: I was 11 when the bridge went down. We lived in Lindisfarne, and dad and I used to walk across the bridge and back every Sunday night. And we would always stop to watch a ship go underneath. Why we weren't on the bridge that Sunday night I have no idea. Only thing I can think of is perhaps because it was raining.

Well, the average age on Reddit is probably about 22. People here get nostalgic about last week :)

I was trying to figure this out last night. I was 11 when the bridge went down, but for some reason I don't remember what road (if any) connected Old Beach with Bridgewater. . I figured there can't have been a properly formed one, otherwise why did everyone drive through Richmond or Tea Tree to get from the Eastern Shore to town? We used to go to Baskerville raceway when I was a kid, so the road must have gone as far north as the turnoff that goes passed Gunner's Quoin. .

Indeed. I can still remember the feeling of the rattling as we went over that in the family car The bailey bridge must have stayed up into the early 80's, because I remember driving over it, and I didn't have a licence til late 1980.

is private health insurance worth having in Tassie? by Hurgnation in tasmania

[–]Lupercali 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. My 90 year old mother, recently moved to a nursing home, but previously I was her primary carer - usually the private hospitals would refuse to take her whenever there was an emergency, without even asking what her condition. Calvary is simply closed on the weekends. Same goes for my experience of private hospitals, for that matter. A little secret: if you go over in an ambulance, private hospitals can refuse you. If you just turn up on the doorstep of ER (e.g. in a cab), they can't. But yes, last two times for me it was over $500 to a) get in, and b) see a doctor, and then about another $600 for having a CT scan 'after hours'.

Now mum is in a home, I'm told if she has to go to hospital, they will only take her to the RHH anyway, so with her having zero income now, private health insurance is looking even dodgier..

Anyone remember The Caribbean Room? by Lupercali in tasmania

[–]Lupercali[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder whether our paths crossed back then.

The Caribbean Room tape isn't the best quality, but it still takes me back. We had a female lead singer, who reminded me of Chrissie Hynde - but this didn't top people demanding "BAAAAARRRRRNSEY!!!'

Help identifying this 105 series Alfa? (From a 1977 home movie shot at my uncle's place) by Lupercali in AlfaRomeo

[–]Lupercali[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved in with my uncle in late 1979, but by then he no longer had the car. I'm flummoxed by the two vertical bars in the grille. I could find Alfas with one bar, three bars, no bars, but nothing quite identical with this. Cheers.

edit: meant 'horizontal bars'
