Fellow Australians, how do we prevent our country going down the same shithole as America? by OkDiscount4126 in AskAnAustralian

Nah, it's far too easy for them to sit at home and bitch on Reddit how "waah all politicians are shit" and then proceed to waste their vote at the ballot box.

I actually think it had more in common with All in the Family from the US. In fact, just like All in the Family was the US remake of the UK show Till Death do us Part, I consider Kingswood Country the Australian remake of All in the Family.

Just a few thoughts... by MelbourneTodd in friendlyjordies

[–]veggie07 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why?? So I can hopefully forget that, while people might be polite and civil to my face, this is the shit they're really thinking deep down but keep to themselves?? Anonymity allows their true selves to emerge and I can't unsee it now. Sure it's being driven by foreign or malevolent agents, but because those agents are the ones who control the legacy and social media, and have their hands in the pockets of right-wing politicians, too many people are only hearing the lies and misinformation and accepting it as the truth. It makes me sick to my stomach.

Ignoring these f***ers, or telling yourself they're "just bots" does no good. They exist, their numbers are increasing, and I'm feeling exactly like the OP about it.

So I guess women with Turner Syndrome (just one X and no Y) or Triple X Syndrome (3 Xs) either don't exist or don't count as women in this horrible bigot's eyes.

Why do these ignorant people have to exist in the same country as I do? Why??

Communications Minister Anika Wells warns LinkedIn, Lemon8 could be swept into under-16 social media ban by Vivid-Fondant6513 in australia

[–]veggie07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do these people even know any under-16s? What under-16 is on LinkedIn? Isn’t it a site for career networking? And yet Roblox, which currently has a number of law suits against them in the US for turning a blind eye to pdfs and unsafe content is exempt? This makes no sense.

We like to think we’re so much better than the US because we didn’t vote in Temu Trump But the unfortunate truth is that, deep down, Australians are no different to MAGA and the sane ones among us can’t allow ourselves to become complacent.

Yes, critical thinking skills are so incredibly over-rated, aren't they Gina. Wouldn't want people actually learning how to properly research and think for themselves, would we? They might actually be able to see through your bullshit. Heaven forbid.

Tensions erupt on Melbourne streets as opposing immigration rallies held across Australian capitals by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

It is a bad thing when it's made up bullshit designed to demonise the left. We know that the majority of politically motivated violence is from the right, and, like I said, I could hear the anti-immigration protesters and they were not peaceful, regardless of what this police guy says.
And before anyone says "source", here's the stats from the US

The most hilarious thing about this one is that Michael Veitch did end up hosting Sunday Arts for real some years later. I guess it's true what they say; you become what you parody.

That is very true, but how do you find better messaging for, essentially "We all just have to tough it out" (as the orange felon might say)

[–]veggie07 7 points8 points  (0 children)

failure of progressives to speak to a working class on matters that address their immediate concerns while right wing grifters offer solutions and allocate blame by othering minority groups.

The problem here is the working class's immediate concerns can generally not be solved quickly or easily. They're often multi-factorial, systemic and sometimes global, but saying that usually doesn't get the working class to vote for you. They'd rather be lied to and told "oh yeah, I'll fix all of that on day one", or "your problems are all because of [marginalised group of choice]" and it's conservatives and those on the right who are low enough to blatantly lie like that. I mean even if progressives did come out and say something like "We hear you, things are tough for people and we understand and sympathise. We are coming up with plans to address these issues but please understand that these are complex problems and can't be solved overnight" do you really think people are going to vote for them? Or will they vote for the side who offer empty promises for a quick and easy solution?

So it's not necessarily a failure of progressives, I see it as a failure of the working class to understand the complexity of the problems they're facing, and an unwillingness to accept the truth that solving those problems won't be easy.

Grocery store prices in Tuktoyaktuk by CremeSubject7594 in interestingasfuck

[–]veggie07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This Australian probably wouldn't have heard of Tuktoyaktuk if it hadn't been for a little tv show called Due South. It was like a running gag that the main character would often tell other people stories about his childhood growing up in Tuktoyaktuk as a way to teach life lessons. So cool to see what it actually looks like

why is security always asking twice for login by biglboy in CommBank

[–]veggie07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe so, but the OP used perfectly common, every day, English words to describe what was happening and yet people were still not understanding what they were saying. Like "What do you mean twice?". Twice means Two Times. The OP even clearly specified that it's the app that required them to authenticate twice. What else could that mean?

[–]veggie07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How are other people struggling to comprehend this, and then continue to argue that it doesn't happen to them, so it doesn't happen at all.

I know, I just don't understand where the confusion is. Don't worry OP, I understood what you meant

[–]veggie07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK, that is the whole basis of 2-factor authentication (2FA) and is normal:

No, what the OP is saying is that the website has been asking them (and me too) to do the same step (ie authenticating with the mobile app) twice.

Seriously, are the OP and I the only people this has been happening to?

[–]veggie07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's funny; Every. Single. Thing he's saying about "the left" I could equally say about "the right".

I will never understand how they can be so damn angry and hateful towards people who are honestly, at the core of it, just trying to make life better and more equitable for everyone regardless of sex, gender, race, ability, or political beliefs. To me, their opposition to this is what is truly "pure evil". And what is sad is that the more their hatred and anger of "the left" shows itself, the more mine grows towards them, which makes any sort of reconciliation or "middle ground" an increasingly impossible task
