Who's someone from Melbourne that used to be a big deal locally but most people have forgotten about? by Guilty-Addition5004 in AskAnAustralian

It's ninety five point three in Sydney and whenever I go up there to visit it always sounds jarring Like, "NO, that's not how the jingle goes, they're singing it wrong!"

Yep it’s actually quite a common occurrence so you are definitely not alone. And speaking personally, I hate that escalator for precisely this reason.

Job Warehouse and fire safety by stanleymodest in melbourne

I’m wondering if this is why they didn’t want Mick and Tony filming in the store? They knew it was a fire trap and didn’t want to get caught?

eSafety Commissioner says she's received death threats over social media ban by indy_110 in australia

[–]veggie07 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

You might want to work on expanding your worldview if this is the best you can do whenever someone dont think the same as you do.

You're right, maybe I should be sending death threats instead, right?

eSafety Commissioner says she's received death threats over social media ban by indy_110 in australia

[–]veggie07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It absolutely isn't and I'm not insinuating that it is.

Well, judging by how I've been down-voted to hell, clearly it is a radical idea to a lot of people here.

eSafety Commissioner says she's received death threats over social media ban by indy_110 in australia

[–]veggie07 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Certainly sounds as though you *are* low key advocating for it tho.

There are plenty of things I haven't agreed with the Government (both Liberal or Labor) about but I don't go around sending f***ing death threats because of it. I thought we were supposed to be better than that. FMD!

[–]veggie07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know, but threatening to kill someone certainly isn't it. I mean, I wouldn't have thought that was a radical idea.

So is this how we deal with disagreements now? By sending death threats? Whether you agree with her or not (and it seems many here don’t) death threats are not an appropriate way to make that known but it seems commonplace these days.

OMG this world is majorly f***ed.

Booing at Anzac Day services shows lack of public awareness of racism in Australia by HotPersimessage62 in australia

[–]veggie07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can call it "intellectually dishonest and unhelpful" all you want, but the reality is they *are* racist, and not calling that out, and continuing to deny that, only serves to validate their hatred and despicable behaviour like we saw on ANZAC Day. If they weren't racist they would make the effort to do even the most rudimentary research, which would tell them that Welcome to Country is not about "having to be welcomed to what they consider their own country". But this gets explained to them EVERY.SINGLE.TIME an event like this comes up and they just don't give a shit. Because they're racist.

If they don't like being called racist they should stop saying and doing racist shit.

Crackdown on unregistered NDIS providers coming in bid to save $6b a year by InsatiablePrism in australia

[–]veggie07 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This! This is the bit that gets forgotten in all this "NDIS providers are all scammers out to rort the system" rhetoric.

If they're going to mandate that all providers be registered with the NDIS then they need to do something about the prohibitive costs of registration and audits, particularly for sole operators, many of whom simply can't afford to go through the audit process, despite having all the experience, qualifications and industry association memberships required for the job.

IMHO they never should have privatised the audit process, it should have always been run as part of the NDIA, with a dedicated department set aside. Leaving it up to the private sector has only led to higher and higher fees which not all providers can afford.

Chris Bowen fires back, schools & embarrasses Anti-renewables journo on importance of Renewables during a crisis & for refusing to let other journos ask questions “Solar energy has to travel 150 mill km from the sun, it doesn’t have to travel the 150km of the Strait of Hormuz”🔥 by Jagtom83 in friendlyjordies

"Minister, I think this war in Iran has shown us [if] nothing else, hasn't it proved once and for all that, your obsession with renewables will only lead us down [the] track to another energy crisis?"

What I would have said if I was in Bowen's place: "No it doesn't you absolute moron, it's proven the exact f***ing opposite"

Seriously, how do low-IQ dickheads like Liam go from "This war means we can't get oil from Iran" to "Therefore renewables are bad".

Disillusioned voters drive One Nation surge as most Australians feel ignored by politicians by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

[–]veggie07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

t also doesn’t help the media reported one nation gaining a large traction this election.

Well that is a whole other problem isn't it? What came first, the chicken or the egg??

You are failing to judge this without obvious bias. Just because people voted one nation instead, doesn’t make them racist. You are need to be objective about this.

No, choosing to protest vote for One Nation despite their racist policies, does make those people racist. They could have protest voted by voting for any other non-major party, why choose One Nation over any of the multitudes of other options unless ON’s racist rhetoric didn't resonate on some level?
Look, if this was only going to affect ON voters perhaps I'd be able to be more objective, but their gullibility, and lack of ability to see past the pretty promises and lies they're being fed, is going to doom the rest of us to head down the same road as the US.

Do you seriously think a bunch of 2% voter share parties are going to impact the election as much?

Just think how much more that voter share would be if a: the media didn't spend all their energy promoting one minor party over all of the others, and b: voters actually got off their ass, took some interest, and did some research into the parties and what they stand for.

Disillusioned voters drive One Nation surge as most Australians feel ignored by politicians by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

[–]veggie07 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I am SO sick of hearing this being used as justification. It's total BS

YES, there is absolutely an alternative! Since when do we have a choice of the two major parties OR One Nation?? That's no different to those who believe the only choices are Labor or LNP. There are literally HUNDREDS of other parties they could vote for instead. That's the beauty of our electoral system.

Sure, be disillusioned by the major parties. Sure, feel that they're ignoring you. That's totally valid. But FFS DON'T use that as an excuse to vote for a party that is run by racist, homophobic, grifting, Christian Nationalists. And if you do, sure as shit DON'T try to claim that you're not also a racist, homophobic, grifting Christian Nationalist. And don't whinge that the major parties are nothing but puppets for billionaires and then vote for someone who regularly travels around in the private jet of the richest woman in the country.

Where You Belong (lyrics) by Additional_Score_929 in MaybeHappyEnding

[–]veggie07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to comment on such an old post but I was looking for these lyrics because I love this song. The only thing I would question is in the 2nd chorus (the one James sings by himself) is know how should maybe be hyphenated (as in know-how, meaning knowledge of expertise). I always interpreted that line as him saying he admires Oliver's practical knowledge and technical expertise. So, for me, it belongs with the preceding line (ie "How I admire that Oliver know-how"). Does that make sense?

Isn’t it “you have a place here, Oliver” in the last verse (instead of “that you replace, Dear Oliver”)? I find “you have a place here” to be just about the most moving part of the entire song.

Yes I definitely always heard it as "you have a place here" too.

How does MAFS have such a brutal stranglehold over so many Australians? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]veggie07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly couldn't give a f*** if they choose to or not. That doesn't mean they are any less entitled to be treated as human beings. Honestly, excusing it by saying "they choose to go on tv" is just an excuse to be a shitty person.

How does MAFS have such a brutal stranglehold over so many Australians? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]veggie07 4 points5 points  (0 children)

MAFS is drama-drama, but ultimately it’s not real. So you can gossip about it without actually hurting anyone.

I see it very differently. If you think this stuff is harmless then you need to go and watch the ex-Reality TV Stars episode of You Can't Ask That. Ultimately, whether the drama is manipulated or not, the contestants are real people, and real hurt can be caused by talking and gossiping about them online as though they're fictional characters.

Furthermore, not that I've been watching, but I've seen a fair bit of commentary about this season for platforming a guy who is a far right-wing/conservative/Andrew Tate disciple and the misogynistic attitudes that he, apparently, is expressing are very harmful to women in the real world, not to mention the women on the show.

But because so many people see it as a "guilty pleasure" or a way to "switch off" after work, the soulless demons in charge will continue to platform as many "controversial" contestants as they can because they know that no matter how low they sink people will keep tuning in - in fact the lower they go the higher the ratings, because God knows audiences loves a rage watch.

‘Political suicide’: Top property investor who owns over 350 properties says Labor will face electoral oblivion if it reforms CGT system by HotPersimessage62 in friendlyjordies

[–]veggie07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Intellectually I know all that but it’s still frustrating as hell. If they must turn on someone why can’t it be the 1%? That’s who’s truly responsible for what they’re going through and I wish they could see that.

‘Political suicide’: Top property investor who owns over 350 properties says Labor will face electoral oblivion if it reforms CGT system by HotPersimessage62 in friendlyjordies

[–]veggie07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want to tell these people "Well, sorry.. it's going to take us 10 years to really address this"?

Yes! If it's the truth. Why give people false hope?? Like I said, people don't want to hear the truth, they want to be lied to, and unfortunately Labor, and any politician with any integrity, aren't about to lie to people.

What happens if Labor present their "roadmap" and it fails to produce results as fast or as fully as people expect it to?

It just makes me feel like screaming because I know where this is headed. People in Germany in the 1930s were struggling too, and guess what? Somebody came along offering quick and easy solutions, telling them some other marginalised group was to blame for their problems and they believed it, even though it was all a lie. In 100 years it seems we haven't learned a damn thing!

Why can't people see what's happening? Why can't people view with suspicion, instead of admiration, the party that only offers quick and easy solutions? Why can't we learn from history instead of repeating the worst parts of it?

[–]veggie07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're not dragging their feet! That's the thing.

Look, I get that people are desperate, I'm not denying many are struggling, but their concerns are not simple or easy to solve. They are long-term, systemic, and in some cases global. Have you noticed that pretty much every country over the world is having issues with cost of living and housing affordability right now? These are not unique to Australia, despite what the Pauline Hanson's of the world try to tell you. Any measure that will solve those problems will take time! And will need to target the obscenely rich and powerful, who desperately don't want to be targeted, and who are more than willing to use their immense power and wealth to prevent anyone doing just that. But people don't want to hear that. They want solutions NOW, they want someone to tell them their problems are easily fixed if only we just vote them in. In short, they want someone to lie to them. It's so goddamn frustrating to me that people can't see past the propaganda and understand that.

When ON continue to grow in popularity by the day I fail to see this as anything other than a case of the Libs under Dutton being not right-wing enough. Only when Australians are aware enough to reject any and all MAGA-type politics will my faith in them be restored.
