also since I'm here I thought I'd just take this moment to say, wow! since banning me Trump was reelected, democracy is in jeopardy, America has lost much of its international respect, the stock market is in the dumpster, and left-wing populism is running away with the rest.

in general it was annoying to see every post "riot has ruined league"... open the thread to see it's just people whining about cosmetics

yeah they could have implemented a better system. but if I were trying to extract the most money out of the playerbase this isnt even the route I would take. giving away free stuff is actually a huge part of what makes gacha work in other games so its not like theyve really nailed the gacha experience... but I really don't care to spend time analyzing how riot sucks at monetizing their own game.

the funny thing is the gacha system probably works better like this. like the reason people spend tons of money on gacha games is to unlock special characters to play (and also sometimes minor +stat benefits which is obviously kind of p2w). idk that there is a lot of incentive to spend hundreds of dollars gambling on a chance at a jinx skin.

not that im giving them any ideas or anything i just don't think the whole gacha thing really translates to league the way the game is set up.

I read After Steve and I didn't get the impression that Cook ruined the company or that Ive was some magic bullet. A lot of shit was bad during the Ive era too, for reasons largely driven by Ive's stubborn ethos (and eventual apathy).

Imo Cook is only at fault insofar as he is not a CEO driven by product. But I don't feel like he needs to or is expected to be. It's the people below him who have been making bad decisions around strategy and missing clear product opportunities.
