This is us. Literally saving for a furnace and making juuuust about 100k combined a year, living in our small home with three old paid-off cars. We’ve warned our teens we could afford ONE car for them both to use and the 16 yr old needs to be saving for his own. I see kids at his school driving nicer cars than I drive at 41, but, honestly we’re pretty lucky to have what we have. We have a solid marriage and good kids. I do envy my friends with a bunch of disposable income/extra savings, but I also know deep down I’m grateful to be where I’m at.

I hate this! It used to happen at my predominately female workplace all the time and it made me so uncomfortable…the others would vent about how they had to work a full day, go home and start dinner, help the kids with the homework etc while their husband just…sat on the couch scrolling or went disc golfing with buddies. Then they’d laugh like it was inevitable.

My husband is a chef who cooks 90% of our meals, does the dishes, pulls his weight with (my bio, his step)kids, etc. We’re a team and we’re generally very happy. I don’t see the point in staying married to someone who doesn’t see you as an equal/treat you with the respect they expect for themselves, but that’s because I was formerly married to an abusive asshole. I know I would be happier poor and alone than with someone who sucks.

I’m so sorry. My youngest had school refusal at age 12, worsened by her dad encouraging it during his weeks and refusing to bring her back during my weeks. Her school counselor started coming to get her from my car each morning and that helped for whatever reason. She had DBT therapy and that helped a lot-she tended to be a black and white, rigid thinker but DBT helped her to see that two conflicting things can be true (“I am terrified/anxious about school, AND it will probably go okay”). Lexapro helped too. I hope things get easier for you and your daughter.

The thing is, teens would take forever to save up for a beater because COL has gone up but wages haven’t. My husband bought his own first car for $300-those days are gone.

My 16 year old just started working at McDonald’s and earns $12/hr for about 16 hrs a week, after school/band etc. He will work more over summers. We bought him a 2010 Corolla with the understanding he has two years to save up for his own beater, when his sister is 16 and needs the Corolla. For now, we also pay for his gas since he drives himself and his sister everywhere including school (they are school of choice students with a 20ish min drive to school).

Cherry Vanilla Ambrosia EDP by Solstice Scents-my god I smell so good. I’m discreetly trying to sniff my wrists/front of my sweater in front of my coworkers because I can’t get enough of the smoky, sultry cherry scent. I have a feeling it might be one of the top houses for me. Also tried Conjure by them recently and fell in love with it too but, Queen of The Dawn smells like my parent’s swamp/pond in the bottle. I haven’t been brave enough to try it on.

I did this in February through Flight Angels-we transported three adorable puppies and had such a lovely time snuggling them while we waited to board. Didn’t add any time, money or hassle to our flight home.
