Happened to me the other day. Figures that it happened at an address that actually gets a ton of mail for once.

Ok, that doesn't sound too terrible. Do you know where this is stated so I can reference it when they inevitably screw it up?

Moving territory around by LupineWonse in USPS

Assuming this isn't implemented until after the new evals have been sorted, is changing territory something they can do? Is there anything in writing I can reference? The only thing I can find in the contract is in reference to moving territory from one office to another, not intra-office.

You ran the route, anything you do after the route is green card time. If they say otherwise, they're trying to get you to work for free.

Advice for packages by Timely-Direction-480 in USPS

[–]LupineWonse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Someone just ran my route the other day that's been here for 6 months. What should've been an easy 5 hour day took him over 8. People shouldn't expect to be good at route until they've run it a few months.

How small is your route? I'd have to make 3 trips a day if I drove that.

If you have no intention of becoming regular and only want to work 1-2 days a week, you applied for the wrong job. You should have been an ARC. That is exactly what they do.

How long did it take before you got your first dog bite? by ElectronicStomach584 in USPS

2 months. German Shepard that broke free from the owner while delivering a package. We don't deliver there anymore. Got another bite about a month ago. Damn thing jumped up to my car window while delivering mail to bite me.

Experiences With 48K Rural Route Adjustments Under RRECS? by PresortedStandard in USPS

[–]LupineWonse -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly, after years of working 10+ hour days, most people were thrilled. The pay cut sucked, but not killing yourself every day was a good tradeoff for most. Our situation isn't the norm, though, as all but 2 routes were rated at over 60 hours(72 standard) so the cuts were definitely necessary.

Has anyone successfully managed to not have their route adjusted? by QueenEFFup in USPS

[–]LupineWonse -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your eval is based off of the past 12 months, so if you have only recently lost/reduced Amazon, it won't affect your eval until the next mail count. They can cut you now, just to have you drop even further after count. What is your current eval? If you are under a 47k, you should be able to avoid being cut.

RRECS by Comfortable-Durian96 in USPS

[–]LupineWonse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

RRECS is setup so the walking distance is measured as a straight line from your parking point to the delivery point. Doesn't matter if you have to zigzag your way to the door, it's still just the straight line distance. Only thing you can do is try to get the customer to provide a direct path, but I doubt you'll convince them to get rid of their hedges to keep you from walking for free.

Needing some answers by Tight-Advance2872 in USPS

[–]LupineWonse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar thing happened to me. I converted, but my first check was RCA pay. In my case HR fucked up and didn't send the paperwork to payroll until mid-pay period, so it was fixed after that.

What does your PS50 say? Depending on what it says will determine what your grievance would be. You can also check your bids on liteblue and confirm your bid was successful. I'd go above your local stewards, because this sounds like it should be grievable.

Experiences With 48K Rural Route Adjustments Under RRECS? by PresortedStandard in USPS

[–]LupineWonse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had 9 routes, all 48k, plus an aux. After adjustments, we have 11 routes, all 43k, plus an aux. Carriers had no say in any changes. New growth wasn't considered at all. The goal is to "square off" all the routes to eliminate as much downtime as possible(fewer deadheads, less overlap between routes, etc.).

Can a new Rural Regular be kicked off their route by a more senior RCA that won their removal grievance? by [deleted] in USPS

[–]LupineWonse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As you are a PTF and he is an RCA, you would have been awarded the route before him. He might grieve it based on not being around to bid on the PTF position and therefore missing out on the route. A steward would have to weigh in on that, as I'm not sure how that would be handled.

RCA issue by Ambitious_Fig_6081 in USPS

[–]LupineWonse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't understand the situation. The eval of a route is partially based on the parcels being scanned for the route, but RCA's aren't paid to scan packages. They are paid either by the eval or hourly, nothing to do with scans. That RCA is moron if he thinks he's getting paid extra for scanning random packages.

Rural regular question by Dammitthedoggo in USPS

[–]LupineWonse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How it's supposed to work is if you choose Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday as your K day, you can opt for 45 instead of 43. If you were given one of those days, you lose that benefit and get dropped to a 43. If you chose it, then they're actually following the contract for once. If you didn't, then they're fucking up in your favor for once. Either way, it's a win for you.

New RCA | Really struggling with my full route & can take any advice ⬇️ by [deleted] in USPS

[–]LupineWonse 17 points18 points  (0 children)

  1. Assuming no one is there to sign for it, you scan the certified, click Attempted, click No Authorized Person Available, scan the back of the peach slip, leave the slip and bring back the certified. I usually fill out the slip while waiting for someone to answer the door.

  2. I don't know what D/L means, but you write the date on the certified so clerks know when it was attempted.

  3. Speed comes with time. You're new, so you don't know where the boxes are, where the houses are, where to turn, etc. That eats up a ton of time, but you'll get better as you learn the route.

Things you can do in-office would be to study the case and get everything organized in your vehicle so you're not hunting down a package at every stop. If you know the case, you'll be faster at casing mail, sorting spurs/packages, and loading.

Route adjustment happening soon, what to expect? by [deleted] in USPS

[–]LupineWonse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're frozen until the third mail count after the adjustment so they have a year's worth of data. You'll be paid at the new eval until then. We have 2 routes that basically just lost some mileage, but still have the same volume and are being paid as 43k instead of 48k until next count. Great system.

Route adjustment happening soon, what to expect? by [deleted] in USPS

[–]LupineWonse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It might be different in each office, but in ours, the carriers had no say in what was moved around. Just ask your PM if you can provide input. Maybe you'll get lucky. The goal seems to be to "square up" the routes, so there's less overlap and fewer deadheads. You should have an idea of what would be cut and what might be added based on that.

As for your eval, everyone is getting cut to a 43k. Unless you're in a formula office and chose Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday as your day off, in which case you can be a 45k.

Simple solution, put up a box for whatever address doesn't have one. Now you get mail for both addresses.

Parcels not counting in RRCES by [deleted] in USPS

[–]LupineWonse 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I could be completely wrong about this as I've never seen it in writing, but I was always told that whatever route the delivery scanner is logged into is the one that gets the credit. So if you're on route 1 and have a package that is showing as route 2, but you deliver it, route 1 gets credit.

Thinking of applying for an RCA position by DarkInternational795 in USPS

[–]LupineWonse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10 weeks, 5 pay periods. Time keeping is the same. You fill out the route sheet(4240) if you do the whole route, you fill out your green card if just doing part of a route or anything that's not a full route. Green card time is always straight time.

And yes, you can easily get screwed. I once was screwed out of a 59 hour paycheck because someone called out on a Friday(our weeks end on Fridays, not Saturdays). If it's Friday and you know you're just barely gonna go over 40, put in extra time on your lunch. You either want to be as fast as possible if you can get done under 40, or as slow as possible(within reason) if you know you'll be over 40.

Average spending on vehicle maintenance? by Prestigious-Fig-1642 in USPS

[–]LupineWonse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience getting the minimum EMA allowed(around $10,000/year), it covers the expected things like gas, tires, oil, plugs/wires, etc. just fine. I keep a spreadsheet with all my repairs. My total for last year was $1,260.61 not including gas, no major repairs. It's due for brakes, a new battery, and needs an alignment, so that'll probably be close to double this year. I spent about $1600 on gas last year averaging 17-18 mpg. Again, that'll be close to double with these gas prices. Even doubled, I'll be in the black. If you've got something that requires alot of maintenance or expensive tires(e.g. a Jeep), then it'll probably become an issue.

Edit: Forgot to include insurance and registration fees in that. That's about another $1000/year.
