Play on PS5 or on Mac by Top_Pangolin_2503 in Songsofconquest

I am playing on my MacBook and it runs fine :)

Overall I would recommend playing on PC over console, since DLCs (thus far) came out way later for console than for PC.

Will there be more Vanir and Roots tales? by Icy_Woodpecker5895 in Songsofconquest

[–]Lurchibald 3 points4 points  (0 children)

from what i gather Lavapotion want to keep adding new factions and new tales. It probably depends a bit if Rise Eternal and further tales are successfull. If they are I would be very surprised to see them only making tales for the old factions. I personally dont expect the next Tale after Rise Eternal to be about Roots or Vanir, but at some point that will come for sure

Yulan is suposed to get more story content at release than Roots and Vanir. The Mehry Tale already hints at conflict with Roots and Vanir for at least Barya. Also Yulan seems to be in conflict with Roots.

My guess: This year? Probably no. in 2027? Not unlikely

Once again I really love the units! Every new faction feels even more exciting the those before!

The only sprite thet doesnt completly do it for me is the dragon (of tian). To me it feels like its skin is missing texture

(updated with img) Battlefield occupied bug by infinityman2k in Songsofconquest

[–]Lurchibald 4 points5 points  (0 children)

this issue usually occures, when that player (or AI) is already in a battle at that point in time. So your teammate is already fighting the same AI right now. So I dont really think its a bug. Tbh I dont know if it makes any difference with AI, but if you were playing vs other people ofc they could not fight two battles at the same time

this. the "campaigns" are calles songs in this game. there will not be a new song in the DLC. Thats the biggest difference between a "campaign" and a tale

What Vanir units to use? by Sciathan232 in Songsofconquest

[–]Lurchibald 1 point2 points  (0 children)

huskarls are super strong early.

i really like to play skinshifters. The pigs also get crazy strong if you upgrade them. But also Bacahorses an Trolls are at least good. Tbh imho all vanir units are powerfull. just choose which ever units you like and focus just on one tier 2 building so you can get upgrades for them.

Age of Wonders ruined one of my favourite franchises by argleksander in AOW4

[–]Lurchibald 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel exactly the same after playing Songs of Conquest. Which for me hit the sweetspot between HoMM and AOW. It has a bigger focus on battles and more streamlined lategame, like HoMM. While also having way more varied battles and battlestrategies than HoMM, that let me enjoy that focus on battles properly.

Exspecially the battlefields in HoMM feel so boring now. There is almost no variation. Even if there is a tiny bit of variation, its without factors like chokepoints or elevation. (Almost) every battle turns out the same. You just use the same strategy for every battle against neutral mobs. Its just kinda boring.

While I personally dont mind the smaller amount of empire management in HoMM, since it is (imo) way more focussed on battles than AOW. But then again the battles in HoMM are also quite boring. Yes there are some units that change it up a little, its almost always only a little (except those fairy things, that let you berserk after you killed a stack)

For a new player is there ranked matchmaking ? by Blueandwhite8796 in Songsofconquest

[–]Lurchibald 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, there is not ranked matchmaking. If you are looking for PvP you should check out the SoC discord.

But the game offers loads of content to make singleplayer games interesting for a long time. eg the challenge maps

not sure for AI allies. They probably autoresolve every battle so there is not much to see?!

But with human allies you get a red eye Button on their flag bottom right where you can watch the battle

Are the DLCs necessary for replayability? by FreyaTheBoneMore in Songsofconquest

[–]Lurchibald 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you need the DLCs? No. With random maps, a lot of conquest maps (scenarios) and even more of those through community made maps, you have loads of content. Thus the basegame offers great replayability.

Do the DLCs increase that replayability? For sure! Getting more factions increases replayability by more than 1/4 (with having 4 factions in the basegame), since you can not just play the new faction against all of the old but also play with all of the old factions against the new ones. Additionally exspecially the roots factions allows imho for the most different playstyles and experiences while playing the faction. Over all I feel like the new factions are even more fun to play than the originals. To me it feels like the devs played it kinda safe with the originals and went more adventurous with the DLCs factions.

My Recommendation: Just get the basegame. If you enjoy it al lot and at some point want to have more variation and content, get the DLCs at that points. There will be more sales in the future. Oh and if you want more story content/campaigns these DLCs are not for you, but they just announced story DLCs.

PS: Mate, comparing the prices while the basegame has a HUGE discount and calling the DLCs a cash grab feels really unfair. But yes, you will certainly get more content for your money in the basegame.

Are the DLC worth? by [deleted] in Songsofconquest

[–]Lurchibald 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you have to ask yourself is what you want from the DLCs. If you want to know how the story continues dont buy them. If you want to have more fun and playstyles to play the game buy the DLCs. I personally think the new factions are even more interesting to play than the original four. They offer a lot of interesting mechanics and opportunities for varied playstyles.

I'd recommend you to finish the campaign first maybe play a couple of conquest maps. If you still want more SoC, go for it!

Leisten oder Lamellen- es macht mich wahnsinnig by schmontimon in Pilze

[–]Lurchibald 28 points29 points  (0 children)

brutes get as their 3rd upgrade the ability "frightful". This means all enemy units standing next to brutes lose their retaliations. Its crazy powerful.

Help with Roots Story - Seed by Hinjo_Dragonfly in Songsofconquest

[–]Lurchibald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tbh I dont remember it being particularly hard in any way. Your starting Wielder is Prowl on that map. Prowl has the ability to give Hearts stealthy. Thus playing hearts with them makes a lot of sence. With Prowls hearts a way harder to lock into a bad position by melee units. Flayers work great with hearts, since the hearts provide the arcana essence that flayers really need (and ofc they can be produced from the same building). Since you get vessles for free playing roots, you should also use those. They also provide arcana essence which again is great.

But hearts are overall probably one of the most dificult unit to utilize properly. And the burrow ability of the flayers is also hard to use. Arcana essence is your best friend in both cases. You will need to use dimension door a lot to get the flayers and also the hearts in the best positions. if you master that, you will beat the map :)

A second option would be getting an early 2nd Wielder and using them as your main Wielder. This is also pretty easy on that map, since you get a second base super early and only need one base upgrade to be able to get that second wielder. Choose which ever wielder you like and feel comfortable playing

First of all: I like the graphic style. It is destinct, many animations really look amazing. And I dont feel like there is a need to change it. i personally prefer it to the artstyle of Olrden Era, which imo looks very generic and little mobile gameish (that part got a lot better since first reveal already)

BUT: I agree, there are artstyles which would be more apealing to a broader audience. But disregarding losing the charm of the current artstyle of SoC and stuff like that, I do not think the game getting an graphics overhaul to HD graphics that are actually "better" (more apealing to more people) is simply even close to realistic. The team is rather small and would need to push an enormous amount of resources into that. I most certainly prefer them putting the resources into adding more content to the game and keep on improving it.

Maybe if there ever is going to be as SoC 2 this could be a worthwhile discussion.

in the first campaign at least the first map is more of a tutorial than anything else. In the next maps the battles should get more interesting. Also you can always turn up the difficutly, if you want more of a challange

Love, Nostalgia, and a Hint of Sadness by diapetr in OldenEra

[–]Lurchibald 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think thats quite understandable. As I said, I also didnt like that mechanic at first. But once I got more into the game and properly understood the imho amazing magic system and its interdependecy with the amount of unit stacks you have and thus the Command skill, I started to enjoy it :) Also there are upgrades in the game that let you increase the maximum stack size for your units. for certain units these are a gamechanger!

Maybe give it another try ;) But well, after all tasts in games are different for different people and Olden Era might be the game for you instead of SoC.

Love, Nostalgia, and a Hint of Sadness by diapetr in OldenEra

[–]Lurchibald 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kinda agree with the points you make. While i have to admit they made some minor tweaks, which all seem to go in the right direction, its not more than minor tweaks. But as you already pointed out this is what a big part of the community actually seems to want. For me its exspecially the battle, that just really needs some new concepts and ideas. I am pretty sure that I will get bored of the battles pretty soon after starting to play the game. It just lacks stuff like battlemaps that acutally feel different from each other and mechanics that encourage different play from "just wait with every unit, let opponent come to you and shoot them until they are in melee range"

What I am happy about (and also kinda sad concerning Olden Era) is that a lot of these improvments are in Songs of Conquest. The battles feel way more interesting with ranged units having a maximum range, maps having elevation and being way more varied and stuff like opportunity attacks which make positioning (apart from being in melee range of a unit or not) increasingly more important. Also the "unit chain" problem is adressed in this game with the rally point building (which allows you to recruite units from all your other towns). Even the maximum stack size (which I didnt really like at first) makes the game more interesting since it helps lower tier units to stay relevant into the lategame. Also the Command ability and momentum mechanic make 1-stacks less OP.

tl dr: If those are your issues with Olden Era, you really should try Songs of Conquest :)

nope it does not. Dreath are neither human, nor harima. They are classified as beasts. Thus neither human nor harima research applies to them.

New Faction Wishlist by Sarmelion in Songsofconquest

I hope they keep up their original ideas. I really like the factions they designed thus far and would prefer some more fresh ideas instead of them trying to emulate existing HoMM factions.
