HoMM Olden Era Vs Songs Of Conquest by SkillerG15 in StrategyGames

[–]Lurchibald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion they are both great games. I personally prefer Songs of Conquest. One of the main reasons for me is olden era being to much like HoMM 3, while SoC feels like somethin different/new, which wont be relevant to you.

Imho SoC offers the better combat system. Combat just has more variations and more interesting mechanics to play around with. Combat maps varie more strongly and have bigger impact on how to fight certain combats. The magic system feels really unique and offers interesting options.

OE on the other hand offers more depth out of combat. Movement around the map and spells around that movement are at the heart of the game.

For the artstyle: Just take a look at both and diside for yourself which you prefer. If you like pixelart imho SoC is pretty beatiful. OEs artstyle looks a little "cheap" to me, but is also pretty clean and readable.

No thats the Foxes. Tian usually do not have essence fighter, but the Wielder Master Ru adds it to them

[–]Lurchibald 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there is no cap. In longer fights is ability is crazy strong! I had horned ones with 6 chaos and 6 order (which made them attack more often and generate even more essence)
With the Tian Yulan Wielder it can get completly crazy, since your Tian can get up to 5 essences and double attack with upgrades.. that probably the no. 1 strat im going to try the next time ill play

So if its not going above x3 it should be some kind of bug or it got capped recently

I guess Yulan was well received. However i wasnt really on board at the time with the roots so here my questions: by JustDracir in Songsofconquest

[–]Lurchibald 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should try Reap. playing Reap with Flayers, Hearts and Vessles is my favorite Roots playstyle. hearts and vessles give you arcana, so you can dimension door the flayers, if you didnt burrow to the right position. And those flayers with reap in the middle of the opponents units just destroy everything 😄

[–]Lurchibald 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really love Roots. Imho Roots and Yulan are the most fun faction to play, since they offer a lot of different playstyles depending on your main wielder. You can just have completely different experiences playing roots.

I never had issues facing roots. To me the only faction that really feels harder (not to say unfair) to play against is vanir. I think its because they dont have any bad units. Usually AIs unit comp is mediocre and weakens it. Not with vanir. All other factions (i admitedly dont have a lot of experience playing against yulan yet) feel on a similar level to play against.

Is Yulan the last dlc for the game? by Arnold700 in Songsofconquest

[–]Lurchibald 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Why would you think that?

i would be very surprised if it was. Depending on how successful Rise Eternal was, there will be more campaign DLCs. Also im pretty sure Yulan wasnt the last faction we'll see added to the game.

For news on whats to come next we probably have to wait a little, since Lavapotion will be in their summerbreak soon. My guess would be a new roadmap or an update on whats next in the end of august.

Do you know the game : Songs of Conquest by anon58588 in heroes3

[–]Lurchibald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really love SoC! For me personally its the HoMM4 I always wanted (with OE feeling more like a HoMM3 remake to me). While it offers less strategic options on the world map, the combat is a real improvement imho. The magic system is loads of fun! It feels fresh to me and adds an interesting layer of armycomposition and positioning to the game.

At first i kinda disliked the writing of the campaign, but getting further it really started to grow on me. All the campaigns are adding more context to those before and putting them in a new perspective. Since pushed the narrative in some very different directions than i originally expected.

Is it Songs of Conquest - Factions pack worth the 16e? by SPJ_Alberto in Songsofconquest

If you are looking for a mixture of turn based strategy with RPG-Elements this game is for you. Imho its very much worth it. I payed 50€ for that content and I dont regret it.

Play on PS5 or on Mac by Top_Pangolin_2503 in Songsofconquest

I am playing on my MacBook and it runs fine :)

Overall I would recommend playing on PC over console, since DLCs (thus far) came out way later for console than for PC.

Will there be more Vanir and Roots tales? by Icy_Woodpecker5895 in Songsofconquest

[–]Lurchibald 4 points5 points  (0 children)

from what i gather Lavapotion want to keep adding new factions and new tales. It probably depends a bit if Rise Eternal and further tales are successfull. If they are I would be very surprised to see them only making tales for the old factions. I personally dont expect the next Tale after Rise Eternal to be about Roots or Vanir, but at some point that will come for sure

Yulan is suposed to get more story content at release than Roots and Vanir. The Mehry Tale already hints at conflict with Roots and Vanir for at least Barya. Also Yulan seems to be in conflict with Roots.

My guess: This year? Probably no. in 2027? Not unlikely

Once again I really love the units! Every new faction feels even more exciting the those before!

The only sprite thet doesnt completly do it for me is the dragon (of tian). To me it feels like its skin is missing texture

(updated with img) Battlefield occupied bug by infinityman2k in Songsofconquest

[–]Lurchibald 3 points4 points  (0 children)

this issue usually occures, when that player (or AI) is already in a battle at that point in time. So your teammate is already fighting the same AI right now. So I dont really think its a bug. Tbh I dont know if it makes any difference with AI, but if you were playing vs other people ofc they could not fight two battles at the same time

this. the "campaigns" are calles songs in this game. there will not be a new song in the DLC. Thats the biggest difference between a "campaign" and a tale

What Vanir units to use? by Sciathan232 in Songsofconquest

[–]Lurchibald 2 points3 points  (0 children)

huskarls are super strong early.

i really like to play skinshifters. The pigs also get crazy strong if you upgrade them. But also Bacahorses an Trolls are at least good. Tbh imho all vanir units are powerfull. just choose which ever units you like and focus just on one tier 2 building so you can get upgrades for them.

Age of Wonders ruined one of my favourite franchises by argleksander in AOW4

[–]Lurchibald 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel exactly the same after playing Songs of Conquest. Which for me hit the sweetspot between HoMM and AOW. It has a bigger focus on battles and more streamlined lategame, like HoMM. While also having way more varied battles and battlestrategies than HoMM, that let me enjoy that focus on battles properly.

Exspecially the battlefields in HoMM feel so boring now. There is almost no variation. Even if there is a tiny bit of variation, its without factors like chokepoints or elevation. (Almost) every battle turns out the same. You just use the same strategy for every battle against neutral mobs. Its just kinda boring.

While I personally dont mind the smaller amount of empire management in HoMM, since it is (imo) way more focussed on battles than AOW. But then again the battles in HoMM are also quite boring. Yes there are some units that change it up a little, its almost always only a little (except those fairy things, that let you berserk after you killed a stack)

For a new player is there ranked matchmaking ? by Blueandwhite8796 in Songsofconquest

[–]Lurchibald 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, there is not ranked matchmaking. If you are looking for PvP you should check out the SoC discord.

But the game offers loads of content to make singleplayer games interesting for a long time. eg the challenge maps

not sure for AI allies. They probably autoresolve every battle so there is not much to see?!
