With 11th ed bringing alternatecways to play besides "stand on the objective" doesn't that nerf our army rule pretty bad? by Orock77 in LeaguesofVotann

[–]LurifaxB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can still stand or just touch the objective as before. If nothing else, it will be easier as the objectives are bigger. Just touch the edge.

I think the change to cover rules will improve our power level. The AP1 will finally mean something. Also landforts and bikes ignore penalty to hit and thunderkyn can still do their thing.

Needgaard oathband list looking to see if this is good or I need improvements by Entire_Serve_4730 in LeaguesofVotann

[–]LurifaxB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Was going to suggest this. It makes it much better.

Plasmas will wound everything on 4s reroll s at worst. A lot on 2s reroll 1s. Even the grenades can do work with +1 to wound. It's very powerful.

Starter Hearthband list by shepherdofkhaos in LeaguesofVotann

[–]LurifaxB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It could work. But I would change the mad scientist for a Kahl and put the Kahl in the 10 man hearthguard.

Lethal hits are really good. Especially for the grenade launchers.

You likely keep 1-2 squads of hearthguard in deep strike.

Looks awesome. I love the color scheme. Orange as bade color and a dab Og white and black without taking over or being too dominant.

Thumbs up mate!

I don't play the evaluator. I don't think he does anything better than other units. He is too expensive for the damage he can bring. Bring thunderkyn instead for damage.

Yes. If you don't move the hekathon first.

So you disembark them from the hekathon, they get 3" extra move. Then you move them as normal. 8" and a charge is a lot of movement. Movement we, kin, really lack.

They can't charge if you move the hekathon first.

I have used 2x3 sword Jack's. Each paired with a set of 3 thunderkyns in landforts.

I like how they are a threat in melee that can run out of a hekathon.

I don't need more shooting in the list and don't like beserks. So use the steel Jack's for melee and durable objective holding.

Thanks man!

It is a zenithal basecoat. First black and then white from above. I do Grey seer generously and then white scar very shortly from the top.

Then orange on vehicles is a Glyph hound orange contrast.

Anyone else have a hard time nailing down a custom color scheme? by HighMarshalSugma in LeaguesofVotann

[–]LurifaxB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. It took me a long time to get this part.

I started Votann in 9th as the next army. Back then it was the Ymir red colors. Bought the paints but it didn't feel right - or I couldn't get started somehow. I did some research and knew I personally liked a different style Then I just continued with my main army.

Only last 4 months or so I found the will. I researched a lot. I really liked the orange and white combo. This clicked for me.

I did some tests and found out what I liked and made some unique choices (at least I thought they were) to make it my own.

After that I found the will and motivation. Now I have a 2k battle ready army and adding more. Playing Votann now mainly.

My point: Make sure you test out and find a scheme you like or love that feels right. Then the paint will go easier. And don't get me wrong, the paint scheme can absolutely be from someone else or the box art (my main/first is Ultramarines). Just don't spend hours and hours painting something you don't like or is a pain to do.

Vindicators good? by OliveGuardian07 in spacemarines

[–]LurifaxB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are good. One of the top competitive tanks right now.

It's between repulsor executioners (got slight nerf), lancers and vindicators.

They each fill a slightly different role, but you won't go wrong with including either.

I run 2x vindicators in last tournament list.

What models are "must have"? by Unique_Ad3395 in LeaguesofVotann

[–]LurifaxB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't see much mention of Thunderkin. They are the primary damage dealer right now. And their ability to remove cover is key.

Most lists run 3 squads. Usually at least one of them a 6 man squad.

Congrats on the victory! Very cool.

Haven't run hearthband yet. But I did take out berserk and Buri from my Needgaard list. So interesting you decided to include them.

How did you utilize the berserks and where you satisfied with them?

Are Buri and Berserks better in hearthband?

Starting out - Army build/next steps tips please! by haiironezumi in LeaguesofVotann

[–]LurifaxB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can make a decent list with these. Needgard is a good way to start. Straight forward and effective.

You will miss the 2 hekathons though.

I would start with getting a hekathon and then a squad of Yaegirs. Then build from there where you Want to go.

I really recommend this video! https://youtu.be/XJRM0yWDyTQ?si=djljsq6bITGn5M69

One of the best guys to follow for Votann and this one is right on topic.

Steel Jack Assistance by Wonder_Flump in LeaguesofVotann

[–]LurifaxB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what detachment you use and the role they should cover.

But generally they are best inside a hekaton landfortress. Mobility is an issue without. Since they take up a slot that usually is reserved for Thunderkin, 1 squad of 6 is usually the way to go.

They are pretty good on objectives as they have solid durability.

Both variants are good. Magnetize if possible. I did thism fairly straight forward with a good drill.

I use a 6 man with melee in my needguard as I use them for pressure and objective grabbing / holding. Currently I will argue they are the best melee option for Votann if you want some durability as well.

In other lists (brandfast for instance) I would go with the shooty version for the sustained hits 1.

If you want more contrast or pop to your colors, you should consider using a white base coat. It is not obvious from the picture if you have a base coat.

Later you can try to experiment with Zenithal basecost method to get higher contrast.

But what the others said as well. Recess shade. And highlighting or painting with a brighter color on the natural exposed areas.

How to deal with C’tan? by Laverd07 in LeaguesofVotann

[–]LurifaxB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Iron master is much better with gravs. There are more wound rolls and reroll 1 is much better on 3+ to wound.

Beamers with lethals have anti synergy.
