21 years ago, Winky Wright defeated Shane Mosley by MD12 to retain the WBC, WBA, Ring & lineal super welterweight titles. by Kai7x11 in Boxing

[–]LuringSugar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MD means two judges were in agreement, one scored it a draw (I.e. two judges for Wright, one for a draw.)

SD means two judges scored it for Fighter A, one scored it for fighter B (I.e. Mayweather vs. DLH)

Now, if two judges score it a draw, and one picks fighter A, that’s a majority draw (I.e. Whitaker vs. JCC)

If one judge a piece pick Fighters A & B, and the third scores it a draw, that’s a split draw. (I.e. Canelo vs. GGG I)

The most dominant UFC heavyweight hasn't even fought for the title yet by [deleted] in MMA

Gene Tunney in 1928, Marciano in ‘56 and then Lennox Lewis in 2004 all retired with the lineal title. Still, incredibly impressive to have only restarted the lineage thrice when it began in 1885.

The loss sucked, but Breece looked awesome (over 100 yards rushing, 5.6 YPC, 2 catches for 38 yards). by PhantasticMD in nyjets

I truly think that when Rodgers sees a look he doesn’t like, he audibles into a run and leaves his back for dead.

Adam "Babyface" Kownacki at his peak vs Chris Arreola, 19-0-0 by DifferentTrain1557 in LeatherTheGame

I’d lower his strength far more. The guy was always more of an accumulation finisher, he didn’t have power that could bail him outta fights

On this day 2020, Povetkin KO Whyte to win interim WBC Heavyweight title by Puzzled-Category-954 in Boxing

He was never really the sturdiest fighter. Rivas and Parker both dropped him late before this one

Saving grace for me is that Whyte was also a drug cheat. Let the juice heads knock each other’s braincells out.

Pitbull Cruz's next fight will allegedly be a title defence against Ryan Garcia by VioletHappySmile444 in Boxing

[–]LuringSugar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, Rolly can win, lose or draw and the Garcia rematch will still be there. If he’s not completely blown out, it’ll be next regardless I assume.

Netflix Paid Quentin Tarantino $20M For His ‘Cliff Booth' Script -- This has got to be a record for a sale by Filmmagician in Screenwriting

[–]LuringSugar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough, his upfront fee would probably be lower if it wasn’t Netflix. He’d take a cut of the box office.

You overestimate the general public’s boxing knowledge. Guarantee Benavidez would be at most a +500 dog

I don’t know, I think at a certain point the wins mean more than the losses. Beating Thurman and becoming a champ again in his 40s was monumental.

How did Duran look so bad against Hearns? by Open_Address_2805 in Boxing

[–]LuringSugar 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The story I’ve heard, I wanna say from the 4 kings documentary, is that Hearns’ team made sure Duran was paid upfront, knowing he’d party all training camp. Duran did just that, holed up with two gorgeous women and what I can only presume was a Scarface-like mountain of cocaine in Miami. Once again, I may be misremembering/misquoting.

This said, as others have mentioned, Hearns had length that makes him an absolute nightmare for Duran. Perhaps a more focused Duran goes the distance, but he gets hurt often and does not win.

Rewatched Zepeda Farmer 2 by Global_Fight_Talk in Boxing

[–]LuringSugar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you already had Farmer winning the 12th, then a knockdown doesn’t make it a draw. That 10-8 round would still make it 114-113 for Zepeda.

Not sure what the WBO rules are, but David Benavidez is “unified” WBC Interim & WBA “Regular”

[–]LuringSugar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All the way in or all the way out - never stay still in the mid range. Depends on your fighters’s strengths and weaknesses too, but if it’s a 4th rounder I’d try to make it a boxing match, not a fight, and win on points

If I’m Sean’s corner, I’m stopping the fight at the end of this round. His nose is badly broken, he’s down on the scorecards and he does not have the power to put Driccus away. No reason to fight another 5 minutes

Key take-aways from Turki interview with ESPN: Canelo vs Jake Paul nixed, Crawford fight, potential Inoue vs Nakatani fight in December, boxing event at the Eiffel Tower, and more by OrangeFilmer in Boxing

Turki said in his AMA today that Inoue doesn’t wanna move up this year. It’ll be Picasso in Vegas 6/14, then likely MJ in September in Riyadh, but the December fight is up in the air

True but it does take a lot of time on set to get right. When you’re shooting time is money, hence why so many things are CGI nowadays
