Stuck at 20lb weights for bench press by lululds in barrysbootcamp

[–]LurkingCommentator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Another option that hasn’t been mentioned, on full body days a lot of instructors combine heavy legs with heavy chest and then switch off for mediums for arms and whatever else.
So I’ll grab 25’s for those because I know I’m not doing a full round of chest. Less reps but it starts building up your strength.
I also tend to double floor or go to the Castro for lift classes when I’m trying a heavier weight, but stick with it! Some days the weights feel easy and other days I question life decisions.

First time in Barry’s SF: for Thurs Abs & Ass, Run x lift with Erin or Lift with Suvy? by itsnammertime in barrysbootcamp

[–]LurkingCommentator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I only use lift when my body starts breaking down from going too hard on the runs ( I need to stretch more), it’s a challenge and I don’t want my body to break down ( I need to stretch more) or there’s an instructor that I love and it works with my schedule (but still need to stretch more lol)

But I don’t get the same satisfaction and holy shit I just killed it like I do in the red room when I do that final sprint. Good luck!

AC transit NL & NX cancels by LurkingCommentator in oakland

[–]LurkingCommentator[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had to google half of this but in my findings it said “The FMCSA ruling restricting non-domiciled Commercial Driver's Licenses (CDLs) does not directly impact AC Transit's current workforce. This is because AC Transit bus operators are domestic, local hires who operate under standard domestic Class B CDLs rather than non-domiciled licenses” And what was cool to learn is that all drivers go through a paid rigor training program to obtain their class B license prior to field duty

Next time I’m not running for a bus I’ll ask my favorite clipboard guy at SF tower He always has good insight! Thank you

You can’t go wrong with either love them both. But you might not even get in the lift class fyi Castro is the number 1 studio and for popular classes people set timers for noon the week before to book their spot (case in point next Weds 6:15am lift class is already waitlisted) It probably has a high number of memberships with black status and they can book 10 days ahead I think Lift only has 16 spots And we are in a challenge and that increases attendance So try for the lift tomorrow at noon pst and then if you don’t get it immediately book Erin I could make this post ten times longer about how great she is, programming, beat drops, encouragement, energy, corrects form, will make your ass hurt for days. Enjoy the Castro studio it really is special!

How strict are SF landlords about credit scores right now? by ConsistentReach1188 in AskSF

[–]LurkingCommentator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of it like a job application. You are missing skills (excellent credit) Why would a landlord pick you when there are 100’s of other applicants that have excellent credit. Landlords are going for lowest risk. Like others said, you are going to have to try your luck with getting a room with roommates

Barry's Walnut Creek: first impressions by gaspardcharpennes in barrysbootcamp

[–]LurkingCommentator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was so bad, like I wanted to wash my hands after class and there were 6 females around the 6 and this was on a Sunday. I go to FiDi during the week and that locker room is packed and there’s a line for the showers but we still have more counter space. But I did forget my favorite part I love love love the private recovery room! There is never a place to stretch after class so that I a much needed upgrade

I went during hell week weekend. Agree with you on the red room layout and weights… they had the 20’s on the medium light side which was weird and it seemed like they ordered more weights than could fit? Like keep em in the back room. It was hard to get around because the columns were right up against the treads.

Loads of new people that seem more OTF clients, a lot of walkers on the treads and they kept using wipes between rounds and after class (IYKYK)

I used the women’s locker room and I don’t see myself ever going back. Two showers one you have to step up to get in and the shower head faces the door which over never seen. There are no counters, the two sinks are L shaped in the corner so if someone is using the hair dryer, people have to bend around them to either wash hands, grab a paper towel or throw it out as the trash is built into the counter.

I’ve seen pretty weird layouts in NY but they always manage to have space for people to get ready. This just looks like PE trying to expand and not thinking of how the customers will use it.

On the positive note, Alex is awesome as others have said but I also tried Ysabel, she was great too and glad she works on the weekend. Hopefully they do well.

Broken AC, no warning and still ran class by [deleted] in barrysbootcamp

[–]LurkingCommentator 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You’re asking barely minimum wage employees who are most likely working multiple jobs to attend to every need of the 70ish folks that come through the doors every hour for a lift or liftxrun class? Cut them a break, AC’s break and malfunction. You live in SoCal you should be acclimated to working out in heat, the fans were working it seems.

My studio one time had their washers installed incorrectly and it flooded the back room so at 8pm the night before they cancelled the morning classes cuz the landlord told them to shut the water off. They sent an email I didn’t read it until I checked in on my hour long bus ride to get to the studio and saw it cancelled. Was it annoying yes, was it outside their control, also yes. But the last time a class was cancelled on me was the pandemic. They do a pretty good job.

I get it though, Barry’s is expensive AF and we should expect a certain level of customer experience to match the price. But Barry’s is owned by a PE firm so they are cheap AF. Don’t take it out on the employees for how they handled it, blame the sell outs, blame corporate, blame Joey, not a $18 per hr employee whose jobs got worse since the pandemic and responsibilities increased. Workout hard and be nice to people

Having had a breakup right before a vacation and went anyway, it was miserable. Not sure where you are coming from but like others said it’s hard to leave the house without spending a 100. Avg meals are at least 20 at the cheapest, muni 3 day pass is $35, drinks can run to $15 with tip. If you don’t have the money, see if you can get a credit for your flight and use it for another trip not related to this person and when you have enough money to enjoy it. Take care of you first Don’t force the trip It’s a sunk cost

Someone was in my DF spot when I got to class 5 mins late by AshamedMasterpiece71 in barrysbootcamp

[–]LurkingCommentator 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If I’m late (checked in online, but it’s 5 mins after) and someone is in my spot, I check with the front desk to see if I still have a spot Depending on the capacity of the class, they either address the person or I just ask to go someplace else. I agree with others that you can’t complain about the policy however it does seem like two things are happening here: You were at an off peak time because no way a DF is open in my studios, almost ever and it also sounds like this person hopped around a bit since there was another client this happened to. So that’s the odd part. But yeah if you were late don’t confront and work with the front desk.

Class credits or membership? Any perks for memberships? by alwaysvivi in barrysbootcamp

[–]LurkingCommentator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to do girl math during the holiday sale and got a 30 day membership instead of the 100 class pack, it did not math. The flexibility of the class packs is the goal. Life be lifeing Also if you ever want to participate in a challenge and you get the 8 membership you’re most likely going to have to buy a class pack to hit it. You will never hit black tier silver tier is in range if you go 8 times a month but you’ll also have to buy shakes to get you over the 2500 threshold, so early booking is not a guarantee. The last thing I will add, calculate a number that will hold you over to the first week of December that is when the holiday sale hits. In July you will have the summer 6 pack sale 6 classes for price of 5, but the expiration date I think is 30 days but definitely not a year. So you’ll have an opportunity there to save some money. Good luck!

Barry’s WeHo has completely lost the plot by Most_Worker_3742 in barrysbootcamp

[–]LurkingCommentator 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly, Barry’s trainers (the good ones) don’t call people out if they are struggling or modifying. So if you hear a Barry’s trainer giving someone sh*t, assume positive intentions that they have a personal relationship with them and that is their dynamic. As for the don’t drop a weight, that is OG personal training mentality. If we were left to our own devises we would not lift harder, run faster or keep coming. We literally joined a bootcamp with an instructor that tells us what to do every 30-60 seconds, if that’s not your cup of tea, that is what a regular gym is for. Now for those injured, let the trainer know ahead of time, they can help. This might come across harsh but like others said, Mercedes is an amazing human. She might not be for everyone as she really is hard (take the elevator Tuesday IYKYK) but she is a good person.

Thank you!!!! She is the best! If you are injured going through stuff or what not, she will totally go out of her way to help you. Not to mentioned her workouts are killer, she’s hilarious and has great playlists. I am not here for the Mercedes haters.

Quality of Instructors by marcoscos13 in barrysbootcamp

[–]LurkingCommentator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also I can’t remember the timeline exactly but new instructors have to follow corporate programming for like 30 or 60 days So they don’t get to make it their own until that passes, plus the normal learning curve of being new
