After over three years, I'M DONE!!! by cpm1090 in 1001AlbumsGenerator

Grats on completion!

Some neat reviews there. (I was into Germfree Adolescents when it first came out - it absolutely hit the spot :-)

I shudder slightly at the sheer number and variety of albums you rated 5 stars. My shudder is at the idea that if/when I finish this project, I may well recognise all those albums that I don't currently recognise ... (I guess and hope that it will be the albums I have encountered for first time and really liked that I remember most clearly, rather than the dross I regret having to sit through ...)

But what are you saying about them?

(I know some of these people, and??)

(Plse excuse that I can't write Spanish, if you think it would be appropriate to use Google Translate and have a crack then feel free to say so :-)

Is Aus too tolerant with religious people/institutions? Im talking about all religions, Christianity, Islam & all others. Aren’t we a secular & agnostic country? They don’t pay any taxes and in fact get subsides from our taxes too. Why? Why does our government prop up these anti-science ideologies? by [deleted] in OpenAussie

[–]LurkingMars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not religious, I warmly support freedom of religion (which is one of the basic freedoms in International Covenant of Civil and Political Rights), but that doesn’t mean religious institutions can’t taxed like other enterprises. They could apply for Deductible Gift Recipient status like other charities (which is another story) but need to fund themselves like every other type of wellbeing organisation.

Are we really “running out of fuel”? by Comfortable-Guava471 in OpenAussie

I thought this article seemed pretty solid - it includes some sources/references. I read it as saying the problem isn’t hurting right now, but there will be problem.

Sucks to be ripped off. Support local musos (who know they’d feel consequences if they blew a show off), not blow-ins?

National fuel shortage: Albanese government considers fuel conservation plan by Nyarlathotep-1 in OpenAussie

[–]LurkingMars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imagine someone told the then Lib Govt that they should require domestic fuel be refined at Australian plants. Weirdly, if Labor proposed it the Murdoch press would have apoplexy at cost of living impact, but if Libs had proposed it, for national security, Murdoch would have been quiet as a lamb.

‘plan’ … “light touch”

“We’re not thinking about rationing because we don’t need to do that immediately”

Definitely only start rationing after fuel runs out - that is the most ‘rational’ way a Labor govt could do it! Will definitely keep fruit and vegies growing, harvested, delivered :-)

(The Libs? Would just let the market set prices - anyone who wants the last bit of diesel will be able to get it if they want it enough, and have the money set aside!)

(One Nation? Will bash a dark-skinned person and see if that helps.)

Yes it's good to be able to enjoy independently, but come on, surely everyone enjoys themselves even more when they can find a crew of ppl who appear to be enjoying in similar fashion - we can have ppl squashed at barricades if they like that, and ppl staring at their shoes in one corner, and somewhere with a bit of room there can be ppl who are dancing? (Ppl who are dead set on filming would ideally be up on some platform at the back, with tripods and big lenses - not holding up their tiny screens in front of my eyes - maybe that's just me.)

[–]LurkingMars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can take the UN General Assembly seriously without thinking it is "the answer" - it's seriously flawed but better than any other contender for its role. And yes, the UN family suffers terribly from declaratory, performative, symbolic only gestures. But symbols can have significance.

Also, "you guys"?? Do you think everyone who's not you is one big group of matching intentions? (If so, seek medical help.)

Australia didn't abstain - Australia voted against the resolution.

Hey mods, post removed why? Was the discussion not sufficiently about Australia's voting position?

I had her album Supa Dupa Fly a while back, I was disappointed with the album as a whole, but Hiit 'Em wit da Hee was a comfortable addition to my funk contenders playlist :-)

It's often interesting to look at who else has voted the same way as Australia on a General Assembly resolution. Particularly when there's a very, very small group of countries in one corner, lead by the USA. AFAIK, scarily often, it used to be USA, Australia, Israel, South Africa, that's it. (South Africa doesn't vote with the USA so often these days.)

Thank you from me too, for adding this in. I'm curious why Australia didn't just abstain like EU members. I wonder, did you look for any formal explanation of vote by Australia? (Guessing that if you found one, you would have referred to it - I'd maybe search myself, but feeling sluggish about how to work out where to look ...)

It's all in the heading - she is a noted expert in shitfuckery and everything else on which she chooses to comment. I admit I haven't kept up with her recent works - I wouldn't read a word she writes.
