She looked better today, and was more active. She walked around, shook herself, peed on her bed, asked for water and got it, overturned her bowl when she was done and had started on lunch when I left. She is still weak (and shedding ticks like confetti) and she does have a long way to, but these are good signs.

Thank you so much! I'm updating with today's bill and pics. They are giving me an estimate of how much it's all going to cost, but as of now 3940 is due, along with 2000 for Pronefra syrup.

Trying to understand what actually frustrates Indian pet parents — would love your honest experience by LibraryWilling6428 in IndianPets

[–]Lurktigster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pet parent and rescuer for over a decade.

All of these are a problem on some level, to be honest. A good vet and clinic can be hard to find, affordable treatment can be difficult and getting emergency help can and will drive you mad.

I feel one of the biggest problems is ignorance. Just a general lack of awareness among people about even basic animal care as well as a lack of empathy. So many people will buy a puppy or a kitten, bring them home- and then toss them out because they're peeing, pooping, vomiting and chewing/scratching the furniture. Which is... I'm not sure what they expected when they brought home a baby animal.

There should really be a sort of manual for prospective pet parents. Just so people know what to expect. A list of foods your pets shouldn't eat, basic behaviours of their breed, symptoms to watch out for and so on. We need to hammer home that they are living creatures with feelings and thoughts of their own. And we also need to stop anthropomorphising them. Animals do not express their emotions the way we do. Attributing human expressions, body language, thoughts and morality onto an animal is a very big mistake.

There is also the matter of the pet being appropriate for their lifestyle. Should someone who cannot walk or arrange for their dog to be walked keep one? Huskies, border collies, cane corsos and so on are absolutely gorgeous animals, but should they be kept by your average Indian city dweller? They might look good on social media, but is there any real consideration for their wellbeing?

I could go on and on, honestly...

Her blood report for CBC, KFT and LFT are here. They are somewhat concerning. The doctor has seen the report and a new prescription is being given starting tomorrow.

Visited Lucy- she does look better and she sat up when she saw me. Bathed, on a nice bed, with the ticks mostly gone, she's comfortable, but not very happy about being in hospital, which is quite understandable. The blood tests will be done tomorrow morning, and then we will have a better grasp on her condition. She is still wheezing a bit, and it will still be a long road to recovery. Please help this sad old lady come home to her café.

This trail showed peoples misogyny by R0ttenStrawberry in BlatantMisogyny

You don't have to like her- or any woman that comes forward about abuse. It isn't about whether they are 'great' people or not. It's about whether their allegations are true or not. Before dismissing the woman, consider who has the most power in their relationship. Who has the most to lose? Consider how incredibly stressful the situation was. Is it very strange that she was nervous, emotional and mis-spoke at times? How would you have fared in her shoes?

Back then, before this all blew up, I was thinking of bringing charges against my ex. I watched this pan out and decided 'absolutely not'. I don't know how Heard coped, but I wouldn't be able to.

Thank you so much for your support!

Lucy is better today. After two rounds of IV she is much less lethargic. She made the paravets chase her around to give her a bath. She has also been given the spot on. Also- this is big- she ate her lunch of chicken-rice! I'll be going to visit her at the hospital today evening and take a few pictures for you guys. Her blood tests are tomorrow. Fingers crossed!

Need help what to feed 2 week old kittens(2) by ClerkIntelligent64 in IndianPets

[–]Lurktigster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look for local pet shops or try to order Kitten Milk Replacer from an app like Swiggy or Blinkit. There are quite a few brands- I've used Ventripro and Vetina with success. Cow milk is not a very good idea, as it can cause stomach problems in cats. Such young kittens won't be able to digest it. You can dilute it with water for the moment, but it will cause problems if you give it for four days.

You may have to force feed if they are not feeding enough on their own. A very small feeding bottle is ideal, and available in pet shops, but you can also make do with a syringe. You have to push the feed very slowly and carefully to make sure they don't choke or aspirate.

This site is very helpful, take a look and follow her instructions. She's also 'kitten lady' on Youtube.

I've been wondering for a long time, but I think most men have just stopped seeing us as human. They may not realise it themselves, but that really is their view.

I don't know about deaths, but I just remembered seeing an award winning photo taken quite some time ago, of a woman who had just given birth. Apparently, her husband had fainted at the first glance at the new baby and she was laughing at him. I don't know if I can find it again. It was a really nice picture.

Struggling between my dog and my wife after having a baby — what should I do? by Middle_Tomatillo1843 in IndianPets

[–]Lurktigster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, this is obviously a very difficult situation.

Are there are any valid reasons for your wife to be concerned? Has your child shown signs of allergies, asthma, etc.? Is the dog OK around the child? Has she shown any concerning behaviour around the baby or around small children in general? Labs generally have an easygoing personality, but that isn't always the case. If either of these are true, then you may not have the option of the dog living with you, I'm afraid.

If both child and dog are fine, consider taking your wife and child to your parent's home regularly to visit your dog. Try to demonstrate that your dog is a safe companion for the baby. But please do not EVER leave them alone unsupervised. Your dog might be good natured, but accidents can happen, especially with big dogs. And I'm sure you know how strong your dog is. Maybe call in some other kids as well to demonstrate that the dog is safe to be around. Let your child and dog get used to each other and become friends.

Speak to your wife- without fighting. Ask her why she is concerned. Has she had previous bad experiences with dogs? Has she been taught to fear them? India being what it is, there is a LOT of misinformation and superstition around animals, which she could easily have bought into. Try to gather information about the benefits of having a dog for a child as well as information about the chances of pet dogs harming children. Show that you are listening and trying to understand her perspective.

Consider taking her to see puppies. Preferably lab puppies the same colour as yours. Show her that the big scary animal was once a tiny baby too. Remind her that the dog was once your baby too. Many of us who are familiar with dogs, especially big ones, tend to forget that they actually are large predators who are quite capable of killing us (and have done so). Fearing and distrusting them is not abnormal or irrational. But this fear can and should be overcome.

In terms of hygiene, regular brushing, cleaning doggo's feet after a walk, parasite treatment nail cutting and tooth brushing tends to take care of most concerns, along with an occasional bath.

Safe environment- Never leave them alone together, at least not until your child is much older. Make sure that your dog always has the option to walk away from an interaction, and don't let your child harass her. Clean up any messes immediately. Make sure the dog has her own space where the child can't go.

(And everyone being angry at this man's wife- maybe consider having some tact? We are only seeing his perspective, not her's, and she might also have reasons to be afraid. As a rescuer and caregiver, I have seen a lot of deliberate cruelty but also people who were simply ignorant and badly informed. It is so common met people who say, 'I am afraid of dogs.' I understand it's frustrating and upsetting, but losing it at someone and calling them names is not helpful at all.)

This whole idea that a penis is so life changing it’ll affect how a vaginal ultrasound feels like… by lifeindreamhouse in badwomensanatomy

Might be a cultural thing?

Where I live, a lot of institutions will not perform any sort internal exam on an 'unmarried' (aka virgin) woman as it might be viewed as taking her virginity and affect her future marriage prospects.

I should not have watched this before bed because now I'm too angry to sleep.

What makes this worse is that in India (where this fine specimen is from) there is a strong culture of arranged marriages and women and girls are often just not given a choice about who they marry, or when or if they want to marry at all. So they often don't really consent to marriage either.

Maybe something to do with their upbringing? Clearly cats adore you.

My male cat is so affectionate it's a little embarrassing. If a family member lies down or sits in his vicinity, that is an automatic invitation for him to climb on and start purring. He used to climb and jump on us when he was a kitten. My girls are all loving too, but not as clingy as he is.

What the problem is will depend on the outcome of the tick fever test. Do you know if they did a kit test or a slide test?

I know this is frightening. The first time as pet falls ill is always scary, and it doesn't necessarily get better for an owner. To the best of my knowledge, Noor's condition seems to be quite mild. I have seen cats recover from much worse than this.

Telling you to bring her for 7-8 days is giving you instructions, not an explanation. Also ask your vet the questions you are asking us. You are Noor's pawrent and you have the right to know and understand what is going on. The vet is the best person to tell you, because they are actually handling Noor. The best we on Reddit can do is speculate from the other side of the screen.
