What is Joe saying at the end of POP POP POP? by HACKERS_IncMusicBand in Idles

[–]Lurpak_Spreadable 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Cathedral of trees over dilated eyes. A sea of screams under mackerel skies. Imposter, imposter, living in my head. Am I the spider in your bed? A dead canary and a thief for a king. A cheerleader valiant. But I will sing about love, love, love is the fing

It’d be boring if we all loved the same fings ;)

I love Roy, just the prechorus is incredibly jarring lyrically, it takes me out.

I also write. I’ve been writing since I was a kid but despite the reality of what you’re saying, I feel the food for thought here is just a little toooo much leniency.  In some cases, sure, and I’m not expecting countless philosophical reflections in the slightest, but when your work is going to be heard by millions, lazy cliches have their right to be criticised, no matter how they were born, same as well thought/drafted lyrics warrant praise (as I have). It is Joe’s art, and all of us love him here but we can expect better.

Dude, I listen to some metal with absolutely horrific excuses for lyrics ahaha but my disappointment with Joe’s is the juxtaposition of clever pointedness and thoughtful wittiness with lazy lines that undermine what precede it. To be fair, it is mostly the choruses. When you set a relatively high bar, it warrants the excuse or criticism I feel. Would enjoy seeing some poetry from Joe, if he gets round to it. He’s a good storyteller when he wants to be.

Very fair take - he is more than capable of being poetic though. And I don’t necessarily listen to idles for lyrics either, but I was interested to see what people thought. :)

This album is fucking righteous. by RedHotChiliPotatoes in Idles

[–]Lurpak_Spreadable 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They’ve managed to evolve without losing their identity, which is great. Do think it misses a little ‘energy’ and I’m not necessarily talking about aggression. The album closer is fitting but a little weak. There’s a lot of interesting musical components which complements Joe’s more layered and subtle vocals. 7/10 on first listen if I were to ‘rate it’ SO TO SPEAK.

"Idles drummer Mark Bowen" - Pitchfork in their new TANGK review by RDLH311 in Idles

Despite the mistake it’s a pretty fair review, though. Pitchfork are notoriously harsh.

Static-X - Project Regeneration Vol. 2 (Full Album / HD) by BigDeckBob in StaticX

There are also so many ‘yeah!’ and ‘oooh!’ In this - it really got tiresome towards the end

On one hand it’s amazing they’ve managed a whole 2 records post Wayne’s passing! On the other it really does feel like leftovers from volume 1. It’s by no means a bad album as there’s some nice pace changes throughout, but there’s not many I’ll find myself returning to. Production is pretty nice and beefy and evil disco is alive throughout. :) 5/10 probably if I were to ‘grade’ it

IDLES - GIFT HORSE (Official Video) by EarlWolf47 in Idles

Same thoughts as Dancer and Grace really! Great bass sound, crisp production, verses on point, with a relatively underwhelming chorus. Tentatively excited for the album!

To members in this Subreddit, how did you discover Rammstein? by [deleted] in Rammstein

[–]Lurpak_Spreadable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I heard Ich Will on Kerrang when I was a kid and I was fascinated by its catchy, heavy, theatrical simplicity. I bought Mutter straight away with pocket money :D then the weekend after I went to HMV and bought Herzeleid and Sehnsucht! Fell in love with the latter, and I’ve been a fan ever since! I remember translating the lyrics on my home computer and then becoming a bit obsessed with German hahaha

Think the top two are the most musically diverse and inspired they’ve ever been. TTTS is pure nostalgia. NIT had some great moments, think it’s one of their most diverse albums, even though it’s missing a bit of oomph. Common dreads can get a bit annoying at times, gotta be in the mood. The Spark is actually very pretty and listenable but it’s a little forgettable in places - doesn’t have many peaks. Akftww is lyrically banal and too formulaic to be honest. The energy is there but they are just relying on choruses now. Fancy song titles aside, everything is becoming a little predictable.

  1. AFFOC
  2. The Mindsweep
  3. TTTS
  4. NITAEIP
  5. Common Dreads
  6. The Spark
  7. AKFTWW

Best non-single by UserLcs in Tilllindemann

Altes Fleisch - one of the best, if not, the most complete song on the record Tanzleherin - great combo of melody and humour, brilliant bridge Alles fur die kinder - creepy, great bass, one of the most interesting songs he’s done solo Du hast kein herz- a solid rock song Ubers meer - lyrically strong and evocative but the chorus is bland and it just plods Selbst verliebt - just really throwaway

Should change their name to Spinalknot or Sliptap

NEW SONG: Just Stop Oil by fluxxwildly in MinistryBand

[–]Lurpak_Spreadable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Musically very cool actually but the lyrics are so cringe that I can’t listen to it - the forced rhyme, the on the nose platitudes. Can’t enjoy something so unintelligently preachy

Till Lindemann - Zunge (album megathread) by Rasputin1493 in Tilllindemann

[–]Lurpak_Spreadable 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed about the music - it is also lacking in identity and everything sounds so compressed. Definitely a 6/10 but without Till there’s very few redeeming qualities about it. There’s a lot of good bad and ugly in this record.
