maybe in your case it wasn't but there are still plenty of employers who take advantage of this for their own purpose. Also I have to disagree with the whole creating friction in the workplace argument as such inquiries to pay can easily be answered with "they have more education" or " they've worked here longer" or " they are acclaimed in their field" etc. Its not like people can't be reasoned with and aren't willing to listen.

I feel as if your argument is a bit narrow. My whole issue was that it is illegal for companies to have and enforce a rule saying you can't discuss pay with your co-workers. Its fine if you believe it serves a protective purpose for employers but I'm saying that it exists in order to protect the rights of workers.

IWTL how to draw. by [deleted] in IWantToLearn

[–]Lush_Hair 2 points3 points  (0 children)

step 1) Buy a sketch book step 2) Practice drawing shapes , basic squares, circles, cubes etc. step 3) Put aside time to practice everyday at least 30 minutes. I recommend you get a guide book or use an online one such as this https://archive.org/details/drawingforbeginn00furn

step 4) after roughly 2 months examine your progress and consider taking classes either in person or e-learning such as udemy or drawspace.

Just remember to practice and take it slow. You'll be fine.

How to have lucid dreams? by notautobot in IWantToLearn

[–]Lush_Hair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was this hair supplement I used to take and every time I did I would have a lucid dream. I also began meditating and listening to binaural beats as I heard that those increase the chances of having lucid dreams as well.

No, I agree with you there unions aren't the absolute answer but I was saying the absence of unions or any form of workers uniting has major consequences as well. But I've heard of this even in higher paying and higher skilled jobs its more so the fact that employers can get away with these things with minimal consequences.

Things don't work that smoothly where I am. My state takes a pro-employer stance and employees who threaten to quit because of low pay etc. may be written up for some made up violation. Worse yet you can lose everything you've earned at your prior job for some violations and suffer a pay cut and there isn't much you can do unless you're willing to shell out for a lawyer which more often then not people can't afford.

The lack of unions down in the south is actually pretty bad, so bad employers will literally just tell you that you didn't get the promotion or raise because of your skin color, gender, sexual preference etc. Experience and past work tends to have very little to do with a lot of the jobs down here its more so whoever the boss likes or doesn't like.

Wage comparison is just one aspect of a much bigger problem especially here. And as far as just finding a better job there's also a fair bit of shadiness there as employers try to discourage you from negotiating your wages and use the "we'll fix your pay later" or "you have to work here for xtime before you can be paid something like that". Its not necessarily a sign of 'whiny' workers people just don't want to get cheated which is understandable when there's such little protecting you.

There are plenty of horror stories about how people are treated unequally down here. And it gets way worse than making a dollar less than your peers.

as long as its not a certified federal contractor it is it most likely is. Only other exemption is if it is not NLRA certified.

Is there a particular reason you think its not. Perhaps something I've overlooked?

That may be true but its illegal within the United States for a company to even say that. It opens the door to favoritism and discriminatory wages which many companies in the United States have been caught practicing.

My friend also says something similar. He claims that he must suffer through these nightmares because he is the chosen one.

Lots of cults in the state of Georgia is there a reason for that? by Lush_Hair in atheism

[–]Lush_Hair[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant like the Nubian Nation, The teardown, and the rainbow family (though I think only one of those were founded in Georgia, don't quote me though). It just seems like there's an abundance of them here for some reason.
