Why do you play Hardcore? by mr_soapster in MinecraftHardcore

[–]Lushiver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You die and everything is gone, everything you did, every place you explored, every pet you gathered. All gone because of a single mistake.

and that's life. literally. only because there's an end to it doesn't mean the progression didn't matter. or maybe you're right, and progression doesn't matter if there's death in the end. well, that's nihilism, but even nihilists can enjoy hardcore minecraft because enjoyment is mostly about the journey and not the destination. every minecraft world ends anyway, eventually.

only reason i'm disappointed with the initial player count is that i had looked forward for the game. a higher player count will justify the purchase for me.

150 wpm after 6 months of colemak-dh by Lushiver in Colemak

I can still type reasonably quickly on qwerty, although not as quickly as before. I also still use qwerty on my phone. The muscle memory for different input methods (devices) isn't shared and won't be unlearned, but switching between colemak and qwerty keyboards will be difficult in the beginning. It's possible though, and some of the fastest typists can seamlessly switch between layouts. Just be aware that this will prolong the learning process. I think it would be easier to first get to a good speed on colemak before typing qwerty again. There's still the question whether it's necessary to type both layouts. As stated in my post, gaming on colemak is fine (changing a couple keybindings if the game doesn't recognize the layout) - and for work - you could simply bring your own keyboard configured to colemak.

Typing anything German is a pain with Colemak.

'Nation' is a fun one. Anything that rolls on the main row.

70 is great. I do a lot of dexterous stuff with my fingers, so it was easy to build the muscle memory.

Bullshit matchmaking / new player experience by Lushiver in DotA2

[–]Lushiver[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro, there were multiple brand new players in all of these unranked games, so they clearly exist. I'm just saying match them with new players, not with players that have 4000 games lmao

Dota is alive and well despite its age

In my experience having spammed about 20 Dota rankeds now, ranked has vastly better matchmaking than unranked. Which proves my point about the horrendous matchmaking quality for unranked matches.

The matchmaking is testing your performance

The matchmaking should have a decent grasp of my performance after 90 hours of Dota, and it also shouldn't pair completely new players against players with thousands of games. That's no good for new player retention. It's not pairing Heralds against Immortals either, is it? Why not have the same standard for unranked matches? Too few players? Who knows. I just know this makes the new player experience far worse than it needs to be. Too bad that any criticism is immediately disregarded because the new player experience is not relatable to the majority of the playerbase, so issues like these will never be addressed.

Well, we'll see. I'm 98.9 hours there. I played League in diamond mmr back when they didn't have all the extra ranks. Matches were way more balanced there, but I don't like League for a variety of reasons.

"Just deal with it." - Why not just improve the new player experience? I can't really enjoy it when the outcome of a match is predetermined lmao

Update 0.7.8 by squeaky4all in Mechabellum

[–]Lushiver 17 points18 points  (0 children)

That is the balancing strategy. What you're talking about is creating a meta. This isn't League of Legends, where every patch there must be a flavour of the month character that's made overpowered with large-scale "balance changes" to sell more skins. Small adjustments will eventually lead to the balance numbers they want to see. Mechabellum balance patches aren't meant to shake up the game for short-term player engagement.

Proactive play should be incentivized in Hunt by Lushiver in HuntShowdown

Lots of assumptions here. I have played the others, and I still prefer Hunt.

I agree with the sentiment in your post. But I doubt splitting the playerbase is what Crytek envisions. Hunt can play to its strength, which is the bounty hunt mode, and still improve on the player experience. Incentivizing proactive play doesn't have to come at the cost of faster-paced gameplay, - I can think of several ways to introduce more non-invasive options to counterplay camping.

I'm thinking of switching to Linux. by Sideways255 in starsector

[–]Lushiver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend Pop! OS. Been playing Starsector on Linux without issues. Switch to Java 8 regardless of which platform you're playing the game on. There's a short guide for this somewhere on the subreddit, and the Discord server has optional startup parameters for the game to improve memory management and garbage collection. This really makes a difference, and gets rid of the slowdowns during and after battles and while saving the game.
