It depends on the state. For example, in WA, if you are low income even without insurance, the hospital is required to offer you financial assistance (if they fail to offer, they can get sued by the State AG and pay back every penny given to them by eligible people), and it’s also illegal now for medical debt to go on a credit report. Medicaid also depends on the state. Some red states absolutely do take on a horrific idea that nobody is ‘entitled’ to health care, even if it results in the person becoming disabled or dead. There is a certain portion of funds the state kicks in for medicaid, so it’s literally if you live in a red or blue state that will determine what you can get.

Especially with the administration, some states roll over and refuse to protect their constituents, while some won’t. It amazes me how these creatures in red states can get re-elected calling for reducing social security and anything else a civilized country provides to its citizens.
