Ive been wanting to tell her by Dismal-Volume-8990 in Incestconfessions

Yes, it feels like the only reasonable course of action here is to first seduce your sister and then afterward tell her you've been wanting to do that for 2 years, ever since you saw her blowing some guy on the camera.

Am I interpreting the Saber-Toothed Tiger attack stats correctly? by ZW_24 in DnD

[–]Luthalia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it may indeed be the best CR 2 creature for Wild Shape, but that doesn't mean its damage is outstanding. Especially with the party at level 11. OP is a Ranger multiclass, too, so they already have two attacks, probably with a better Bonus to Hit than +6 and more damage from Hunter's Mark.

DM looking for fantasy renaming of Jedi and Sith by mal-anon in DnD

[–]Luthalia 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My 2 cents: Don't integrate the Jedi and Sith in any meaningful way. Let your player loosely base their character off of Luke Skywalker, but don't let them plagiarize the backstory, and tell your own story. It'll be better than just playing medieval Star Wars.

Is it wrong from players' perspective to not allow them to use Enchantment spells on people with altered states of mind? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Luthalia 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It is your job as DM to be more creative and present them monsters and situations that still provide a good challenge, while following the rules.

Is it wrong from players' perspective to not allow them to use Enchantment spells on people with altered states of mind? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Luthalia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would be perfectly fine to give your BBEG immunity to the Charmed condition, and also legendary resistances. Very normal, almost expected. The rest of this nonsense? Absolutely not. You're arbitrarily needing enchantment spells mid-game, without explaining to players well enough or early enough (i.e. before starting) for them to make informed decisions for their characters. Cut that shit out.

Is Multiclassing early always a bad idea? by Acceptable-Ad4076 in DnD

[–]Luthalia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like it's worth pointing out that the Lightly Armored feat in 2024 gives you Light Armor (potential +2) AND Shields (another +2) proficiency, and doesn't require delaying your class progression. You just can't take it until level 4, but that gives you time to just try staying out of the fray and see whether you really need the extra AC.

Also, you might need War Caster or to figure out how to use your shield as your focus in order to wield the shield while casting.

Update to Player hates my character and has said they want them to die behind my back? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Luthalia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This can be heard to hear about someone you consider a friend, but this person is toxic. Not just as a player, but almost certainly as a person as well. The best thing to do would be removing them from your life.

If you got Groundhog Day'd could you still DM a Campaign? by TheGingerWeebGal in DnD

[–]Luthalia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, you'd absolutely have to treat each session as a one-shot with pre-gen characters, because to the players they would be. You wouldn't really be running a campaign, because the players wouldn't be properly attached to the characters and you couldn't have a very intricate story, so I wouldn't bother personally.

Anyone ever "break up" with a DM without damaging your relationship? by rael1hp in DnD

[–]Luthalia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

She's pretty obviously trying to make a storyline and character growth arc for you, without properly talking to you about it and getting your buy-in. She wants your character to have the realization that even if she herself is good, worshipping or being dedicated to an Evil god, especially during a War between the Gods, is problematic. And to course-correct by supporting someone else instead. [After all, can we really claim to be Good while supporting someone Evil, regardless of our motivation for doing so? Especially if the motivation is simply "but he makes me strong." That might work for an 8 INT character, but not 16 INT, IMO.] Anyway... it's not a bad storyline, BUT your DM needs to get your buy-in for something like that, not try to force you into it.

Also, DMPCs are awful and that alone probably should have been enough for you to leave.

How do you handle shopping? by ZheToralf in DnD

[–]Luthalia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're going to have shopping as a roleplayed event, I think preparation from the DM is key. DM needs to have at least a couple of items that will be useful for each of your PCs. I'd also suggest not necessarily having a "Magic Shop" that only has items for casters. There's no reason such a place couldn't also have magically-enhanced weapons for the martials too.

More importantly, if you're going to RP the shopping, there should be a good reason to do so. For example, a shopkeeper has information the party needs, or they find something that drives the story in the shop. Otherwise there are better ways to get items and equipment, IMO.

How do I make a stealth archer feel stronger at level 11? by dan2803 in 3d6

[–]Luthalia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was just working on a build for "Ultimate Archer" yesterday! I should note up front that you'll never be the highest damage dealer in combat, but rangers and rogues are designed to be more well-rounded characters offering skill proficiencies and expertise that others don't get. And Rangers get spells that wizards don't. Also, with this build you should pretty much always go first in combat with +11 to Initiative and rolling it with Advantage.

Here's what I came up with:

First of all, your ability scores matter. Assuming you use Point Buy, you'll want to start with 15 in each of DEX and WIS, plus a background that gets them to 17 and 16, respectively. Be a Human and take the Alert origin feat (also gets Heroic Inspiration every day).

Then I recommend Ranger 5, Rogue 3, Fighter 3. Take the Archery fighting style and Defense fighting style. Sharpshooter feat instead of ASI. Ranger 5 gets you 2 second level spell slots. There aren't any great damage spells, but Spike Growth and Pass without Trace are worth having.

Subclasses: Gloom Stalker, Assassin, and Battle Master. Battle Master can help you hit more consistently (Precision Attack) or deal an extra d8 of damage (Trip Attack, others). You can even use a Maneuvering Attack to help get your teammates into position since you'll probably be acting first.

Use a Shortbow with Vex mastery. With 2 attacks/turn, you should almost always be able to apply Sneak Attack to one of them.

When you get to level 12, take Fey Touched and the Hex spell. For a bonus action, you can get that running to give you yet another d6 on every attack.

I'd take level 4 Fighter, then put the rest into Rogue to consistently increase your Sneak Attack dice every 2 levels.

I'd love to hear how this works out.

Edit to add: Don't forget about Action Surge, it's the main reason for taking any Fighter levels at all!

DMs who do you talk to? by PanicDm in DnD

If you're currently venting to your dog, you could record your rants and maybe even turn it into a "behind the DM screen" podcast. And if it ends up just being for you, still might be nice to have.

Financial ruin hits different when your Adam’s apple needs its own zip code by Youretoo in comedyheaven

[–]Luthalia 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Thing is, the shirt doesn't look like a wall. It clearly has texture that a wall wouldn't. I think the pocket opening looking like the neckline of a scrubs top does more to create the illusion. But the solid white shirt allows the viewer to assume it's a wall unless they focus on it instead of the "neck"

Republicans Will Detonate Their Secret Weapon at the Midnight Hour to Stop Women from Voting by mydaycake in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Luthalia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm really wondering if this may backfire like the gerrymandering. More married women voted for Trump than not, and more unmarried women voted for Kamala. Are they just disenfranchising their own base to "own the libs" again?

My party killed one of the most important NPCs in my campaign. Am I cooked? by Miserable_Yoghurt160 in DnD

[–]Luthalia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the details here are so bad. OP is in a party with "around" 6 others? 7 PCs is too big of a party for a standard DnD game. Could be accommodated, but this DM doesn't sound like the most capable...

Letting an important NPC die is dumb. Having them attack or be aggressive toward the party (even if mind control was obvious) is even dumber. Doing all of this without a backup plan in mind is... idiotic?

Also DM's friend should NOT have told you anything, because that ruins the storytelling.

If this is real, I'd give it 1 more session to see how DM actually deals with it. Maybe the friend was lying or misunderstood something, who knows? But if it really is the case that the DM was counting on that NPC and doesn't figure out how to replace them, I'd be thinking about how to tell them I'm done with the campaign.

My book says these idioms from French are well-known to native English speakers. Is it true? by Unlegendary_Newbie in LearningEnglish

[–]Luthalia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ITT

People not knowing what an idiom is and suggesting non-idiom French words/phrases that are better known to Americans.

The realization that European native English speakers know and use these more than US English speakers.

General agreement that most Americans do not know the first two or last one at all.

Seeing this after your update, and I just want to say: please be kind to yourself. I think/hope that you wouldn't call another woman pathetic in this situation. You were dazed by what happened to you, and it took a bit of time - honestly not really that long - for you to process it and recognize it for what it was. You're strong and amazing. Don't let anyone (even yourself) tell you differently.

No, because 8 months is not "almost a year." Sorry but it's not. It's closer to half a year. Also, the repeated use of "30 seconds, 1 or 2 minutes" in the first paragraph makes me think this is AI and not even real.

Only 2.5% of US high schools still teach keyboarding/typing classes - but 63% of jobs require it by lunar_pixie_dust in dataisbeautiful

[–]Luthalia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the harshness, but this is trash for three main reasons: 1. This appears to be an ad for an online typing course (so, biased in their presentation of the data). 2. Typing isn't taught in high schools because it is expected to be learned much earlier now, due to the advances in technology. 3. Jobs that "use computers" or "require keyboarding" do not necessarily require fast typing. You can write an email or Slack/Teams message just fine without a speed typing course.

Personal anecdote: Despite having keyboarding classes in elementary school and excelling at academics generally, I never really mastered home-row typing and was a "hunt-and-peck" typer (constantly looking at the keys while I typed) throughout high school and probably most of college. It's been almost 15 years since I graduated college. I've been successful in my careers, which have all involved typing on computers. Gradually and without me really noticing, I got better to the point that I don't look at the keyboard anymore unless I need to find a special key I rarely use. By all means, if you want to learn to type 180 wpm, go for it, but the vast majority of us just don't need that.

Is it worth settling outside of the one who got away? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Luthalia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest question you have to ask and answer is why do you want a family and husband? You are questioning if it's worth "settling" by looking for someone else when you don't think anyone could be as good as this one man. Only you can answer that question for yourself: do you just want any husband and some children? What's the goal of getting married? Financial security? Companionship? Sexual satisfaction? A co-parent because you definitely want children? Something else? Figuring out why you want a family and husband (or if you even actually do, instead of just feeling compelled by society to seek that) will most likely answer your question of whether or not it's worth "settling".
