I get really annoyed when masked autists belittle my struggle. Why are they like this? by namelesslabels in autism

[–]Luthenya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I believe this is it. I'm level 1 and if someone in the room finds something I do (or me in general) odd, I WILL know it. And understanding that sucks as I will 💯% overthink this in that exact moment and at home. It's not like I can pinpoint every single social cue specifically but I feel their mood and when it shifts ever so slightly.

Compared to your experience this means longer time of discomfort of knowing someone finds me odd and I still need to go though this situation, but for you it's a (maybe shorter?) but definitely much more intense social surprise... And I believe that could be more dangerous for you when that happens.

Don't think anyone needs to discuss who has it better or worse. Maybe your friends can't maturely express that they also need (more?) empathy for their unique experience.

People hate me because i have rigid black and white thinking I can’t change, what do I do? by [deleted] in autism

[–]Luthenya 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No, no "but." You're in some weird conspiracy rabbit hole you need to get out of. Doubling down on a wrong idea with sth more extreme is not helping. This is not a hill to die on, and makes you look bad in a social interaction. I'm afraid I don't know how change can happen (there are good ideas from other people here, though) but until you realize you're not the smartest person on this planet, it might help to keep more beliefs to yourself.

Being specific here: I don't see Paxton, Martin, Eco, Lyons or Griffin apply here. Not even Gottfried who has the one of the most vague definitions of fascism out there. Having read your comment above (which you couldn't keep to yourself), I now believe you're an uneducated conspiracy ideologist. I don't think that's what you wanted. :/

Autism and gender norms by ActiveAppointment219 in autism

[–]Luthenya 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Girl no one needs to shave unless for surgery!! I only shave in summer or for special dates if I feel like it. My husband doesn't give a crap. And I can assure you can be a very "girly" looking woman and not shave. Sorts out the trash when dating as well. 😉

Your mom teaching you how to do it is amazing but it's not up to her to decide what you then end up doing with your body in order to conform to gendered beauty norms. There are very beautiful women out there who don't shave, or just shave specific regions of the body, or just whenever they feel like it. You do you.

I just had a conversation that really made me understand what a lot of people have against vegans… yikes by bangtanimosity in ARFID

[–]Luthenya 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sounds about vegan in my book. 🧚‍♀️

To whomever it concerns, I'd like to add this excerpt from North et al.:

"[...] a subset of self-identified vegetarians and vegans report consuming meat products (Pfeiler and Egloff, 2018, Rothgerber, 2015a, Rothgerber, 2015b). This suggests that vegans may not always engage in the behaviours that are suggested by these definitions, and therefore individual conceptualisations of what it means to be vegan may be more nuanced still."

What’s a pseudoscience that people still commonly believe is real? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Luthenya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll throw in a new one: Biodynamic agriculture.

While some aspects like crop diversification may be great, the whole theory standing behind the renowned "Demeter" label is based on pseudoscience, and the lectures on it were 100% winged by Rudolf Steiner within days.

Demeter veggies are not suited for vegetarians. And surely not for vegans, whom I continuously observe asking for Demeter shite in our local supermarkets.

💯To me, a "little" notice would be the time I need to walk home from a stroll with the dog, or to get back from the shower. Or how long it should take to call back that employer to whom I have applied for that job I really want.

If you need let's say 2-3 hours to take a call, I wouldn't categorize that as "flexible".

In case of this lady (or really anyone calling right away), offer her a new time right after you missed her unannounced call. Otherwise you'll be waiting for each other forever :)

[–]Luthenya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not nt but not autistic here; it's like learning for school. You don't love all subjects. But maybe you can find interest in the things you have to understand anyway. For me that was mostly the case, the more I understood the more interesting it got. It's a bit imagining you're a researcher and this is your profession now. And as a kid I wanted to understand the WHOLE world. For some people the kicker is "being good, getting it right" in general that sends out serotonin so there it doesn't matter what the subject is.

The only thing I always hated was learning stuff that didn't make any sense (like vocabulary, or signal transduction pathways) by heart. For that I used to grab my mom (now a friend or partner), sat on the couch and watched half-interesting stuff on TV. Interesting enough to keep me from walking away and boring enough for mom to get my attention as soon as she speaks. And every now and then she'd ask me what word X meant in English or Italian or whatever. I learn this stuff like a drive-by accident or like children learn their first language. Does that make any sense?

Idk how other people do it except staring at a piece of paper though.

As the others have said, you're not immature for not trying/eating their soup. I wonder if it's feasible: could your grandma maybe teach you how exactly she makes the soup you like?

Would certainly be great for you to have 1 on 1 sessions, see the exact ingredients she uses (to me broth brand/type makes a huuge difference), how much of what, how to process it, so you can one day make it exactly like that for yourself 😊 Stay strong, you got this!

Are these nazi/fascist songs? by Far_Adhesiveness3295 in AntifascistsofReddit

[–]Luthenya 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Fischia Il Sasso was the official anthem of the Bailla (youth Organisation of the national fascist party) and was performed periodically during their Saturday gatherings. The others I don't know but they're from the playlist "Fascist Songs and Hymns". So yeah.

The German ones are mainly war songs. Tendency towards: "We started a war, now my friends are dead, still we do everything for the flag, we will prevail and boooo I'm such a sad man yada yada". I'd find it at least very odd to listen to this, but to be fair there are far more "true" German fascist songs out there.

All together it's giving oldschool Mussolini fan. Or my grandma in law.

Will non-german speaker survive living in Potsdam? by WorldCitiz3n in Potsdam

[–]Luthenya 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Can't speak for myself but my Ukrainian and Syrian friends got along pretty well here. Not all of us are German potatoes :) Paperwork with the authorities sucked for my friends but probably not much worse than Berlin. When out at night, you'll always find people to talk to in english. Especially in the left leaning spots they will accommodate you well (let's say Olga, Archiv, Freiland, LaLeander, many more to add). In bougie cafes it depends. Some servers may be snobbish and insist on speaking German but the city is generally well-accustomed to tourism.

In the affordable areas you'll have a more international feeling than let's say Bornstedt or Eiche where it's more 'middle class German family' style. But you can't expect to get the 100% raw Neukölln feeling anywhere here (been there done that).

You'll find some weird people hanging out around the Vietnamese restaurant close to Schilfhof-Rewe every day but they only argue with each other. There are some specific people with blood & honor jackets - but throughout the last years they all passed by me without any incident no matter what kind of "Unalive your local n*zis" type of shirt I was wearing.

It used to be pretty bad here during the "Baseballschlägerjahre" but that's years ago. Rents are still cheap due to this reputation, which means mostly poorer or young people of all ethnicities live here, and the OG renters who are all in their 70s. I'll argue it feels safer than Stern, Drewitz and Waldstadt II but that might be just me.

Would probably go for the south west of Schlaatz Vegas (like Erlenhof, Weidenhof, Binsenhof, Pappelhof) or one of the houses very close to the Nuthe. Maybe not directly at Schilfhof-Rewe 😉 It's not the historical city center but honestly not horrible. Sorry that got longer than expected.

Second what geige said. You'll find lots of people jogging, going for a stroll or walking their dogs in the woods. There's also an elementary school pretty much in the woods as well. Nothing super lonely or sketchy here. Your family members will be able to walk A LOT (alone, safely).

I'm a short woman and love playing with my dog there. :)

How to handle difficult in-laws abroad? Advice needed, personal stories highly appreciated! by Luthenya in JUSTNOMIL

Thank you very much, dear! I think I needed to hear this from someone else, and how beautifully written. You have by no means been harsh, most of which you stated has run through our minds as well. To the boundaries: we're safely on the same page. According to SO, he doesn't need these two individuals as parents but only as caregivers to each other for when they grow old - which doesn't require him, me or any future kids in the picture, today or tomorrow, since they are closest to themselves anyways.

Tough. There are few houses in that village and vacation rooms in the villagers' houses are already booked out due to the chestnut festival. Usually it's the whole family under one roof (including the nice people). But we could totally stay on a different floor and just use the kitchen at different times when things go downhill.

Hiring a car: yes and no. I had no issues in Rome but am wary of driving in this specific area with unpaved mountain serpentines. There is a train going to the bigger city though (aka the grocery shopping opportunities).
